I'm using Marantz 6011 to drive my 5.1.2 system with Klipsch Front. Does adding an external Power Amp(looking at the Emotiva XPA) improves the overall output/performace? I play movies at medium high volume

Why don't you just specify the Klipsch speaker model?
What do you mean medium high volume? It's too subjective. Just state the master volume in dB. Easier to understand.

I'm using RP-250C as Center, RP-160M as L&R. I'm not sure how to determine dBs. But I usually watch movie at volume% 60-65. Done calibration with Audussey XQ32

QUOTE(ktek @ Feb 25 2017, 01:03 PM)
sr6011 show volume in percent? my older show in minus db.
estimate -20db like that
*
For D&M, volume can be displayed in "absolute" (0-99) or "relative" (in dB).
It's easier to use dB so that you know how far you are from reference level.

Yea it's now 0-99, later will try to change it to dB. So how does I know whether I need additional Power Amp? Does it makes any sound quality difference
*
you'll never know unless you tried it. generally, the external power amp will be beefier than the amp in the avr and does more good than harm. the tiny bookshelf speaker has its limit too. some people with very sensitive speakers stay with avr to reduce as much components in the signal chain.

do you feel anything lacking in your current setup?
or u just wanna good deeper into the rabbit hole? devil.gif

audyssey reference offset got 3 choice.
0db is asking u to full blast louder = less sharp.

use -5db or -10db focus on realistic voicing. will reduce the eq aggresive. solve easily.
thts why i like audyssey. no problem to tame sharp spk.
*
dude, this is Audyssey Dynamic EQ Reference Level Offset.
don't confuse people

wah..quite soft, mine before room treatment and dual sub avg -18db now down to -11/10db rclxms.gif
*
to go > -10dB, both the speaker and amp must be beefy flex.gif else full of harshness and distortion

using reference offset can reduce the bass and treble at low master volume rite?

as i know low master volume boost a lot eq. high volume less enhance eq.

using -5 or -10 seems ok to my ears
*
that's only if u enable Audyssey Dynamic EQ

Thus to save the earth and consume less electricity, we should move forward to stereo system (not class A)...  biggrin.gif  rclxm9.gif  thumbup.gif  whistling.gif

Class D damn cool

QUOTE(wim1983 @ Mar 17 2017, 12:46 PM)
Yes bro, at this price, I feel that I need more power for ultimate blasting, pretty complete amp but the power capped at 70watt 4 ohm, which insufficient for some extreme volume for some concerts devil.gif

For normal listening, it would be fine though whistling.gif
*
Now you know why people buy >200W amp

I always wonder why AVR need so many HDMI input that waste unnecessary electricity. Is there anyone need more than 3 HDMI inputs???
*
it is AVReceiver. so it should have lots of HDMI inputs.
imagine u have xbox one, ps4, several satelite receivers, chromecast / android box, bd player, htpc...

I'm not looking into big bulky speakers. Just small and compact but powerful like bookshelf speakers. Do I need additional sub woofer to get that bass punch or will the speakers be sufficient?
*
define your meaning of "powerful". high SPL? full range frequency at close distance?
your definition of "small and compact" is too subjective. I consider my JBL 3677 as small. tongue.gif
