Finally got my first mkb keyboard. Ducky g2pro mx black with abs keycaps at 199 only.

I find it better than getting the version with pbt dye sub which is around 409. I could spend 210 to get the keycaps I want instead now. Anyone selling keycaps here?

Btw, Mx black seems a little hard to press, maybe compared to my lenovo laptop keyboard which is very light and I'm kinda used to typing on this laptop keyboard for 3 years. So it might need some time to get used to typing on a harder and deeper accentuation point.

Also, one question i have in mind is what are the korean springs that everyone is talking about for mx black and vintage mx black? From what i know, vintage black are smoother because of the difference in materials of the plastic used. but what about the springs? isnt mx black advertised at 60g force? then does the 62g/65g make it smoother or stiffer? If I were to change the springs in the board, how much are the springs??

First, congrats on your first ever MKB purchase. Welcome to the club.
You made a wise choice by spending less for a keyboard, and saving up for later keycaps replacement.

Korean springs are springs invented by korean for the purpose of modification.
Vintage black springs and new black springs are similar, 65G actuation, bottom weight at 80G.
The korean 62g/55g/xxg indicates bottom-out weight. If you are buying 62G korean spring means it bottoms out at 62G which is significantly lighter. (20G difference is damn a lot)
Springs cost about RM20 for 100 pieces.
*
thanks so much for clarifying the difference between the springs with me. that kinda confirms what i initially think of it, because it doesn't really make sense to say that a 62g spring is lighter than a 60g force switch and I sort of figure out that it meant the bottom weight.

That kinda makes me wanna make the mod immediately. drool.gif I'm all in for a lighter switch but heavier than mx red. However I'm worried because my keyboard is still new and is currently under warranty, I do know that switching the springs means that I have to void the warranty due to swapping springs requires desoldering the switches.

Where can I buy those springs? and should i change them? from what i know, the only problem for mkb is either led dying or the switch causing some double press issues. Which 1, my board doesn't have much led and i don't really use them so i don't have to worry. 2, I don't hear much double press problem and the only double press problem that i hear are from razer keyboards..

I found that group buy but i thought of not spending so much again right after I buy the keyboard. Might just want to try a 37 set pbt first, the most i want is also a 87 set, does the group buy have link for 87 set? but from what is see, its for full size... or i could save up and buy some second hand ones that some of you might have buy but didn't use much. biggrin.gif

there is 87 set but most of the 87 set price is only RMB 30-50 less than fullset so its not worth getting 87, and also easier to sell fullset than 87.
ad for 37 will not look nice if you dont have a matching set.
*
but then i'm not getting another keyboard and it feels like a waste getting the extra 20-30 keycaps which i will never use. :/

on the other hand, I don't really mind getting the full set,but I don't really like the color combination that is provided in the link, some of the color combination i just don't like, while the miami one just look too lala.. sweat.gif

Any other pbt which is darker in color or maybe combination with white?

Okay, i trust you.. tongue.gif
anyway, i didn't check at the shop yesterday but i notice that there's some rust on the usb connection and some of the letters on the keycaps are stained... :/

Guess that's what you get for a cheap EOL keyboard.. think they're just getting rid of their remaining stock.. :/

Any cheap pbt keycaps to recommend? biggrin.gif

wanted to try pbt due to all the praises that i heard about it. notworthy.gif

Guys, i have some question. Are these keycaps good to get?

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r....=1&abbucket=12#

I like the one which is grey and black. Since it's not white, i think it might be less likely to have discoloration..

Haha. Kinda wanna try the click click feel. =p
But looks like I gotta settle with membrane & scissor switches lar..
*
It mainly depends on how you type. Using membrane/scissor type switches, we have to bottom out in order for the key press to be registered. But that's not the case for mechanical switches, you don't need to bottom out the keypress. I notice that my new mx black registers the key press when i just press in very little. If I'm not mistaken, the distance the key needed to travel before key press is registered is 2mm or 4mm,( correct me if I'm wrong, sifus)

If you wana try the click click feel, I'd suggest go to some shops which provides the demo keyboard and test. I don't regret spending money on a MKB. smile.gif

Something less than rm350 is good. If less than 300 is even better lol. Btw where to get those filco keyboard? I'm preety much looking at cm quickfire xt but not many with blue switch (I use lelong to search for mkb but only that quickfire without backlight lol)
*
For something without backlighting, its either ducky zero at 269(tkl) , 299(full size), or the better quality filco tkl which is 100 bucks more , 369 and 399.

For tactile switches, let's just talk about MX series only. Topre surely out of your range and Matias doesn't have that many keycaps available.

MX Browns are considered scratchy MX Reds. After using them for a long time, I have to say that although this assessment is correct, but I would call it unfair because I actually enjoyed using these scratchy reds as they give me a little feedback on actuation of switches.

Next would be the hallowed MX Clears. Clears have a more significant bump, which also translated to a more pronounced tactile experience. HOWEVER, it's actuation force is actually quite high, and most users who jumped from Browns to Clears suffer from significant fatigue.

Personally, I felt a lot fatigue even moving 5g upwards due to my typing habits (just floating above the keys, and trying my very best not to bottom out).

Having said all that, I now introduce to you the REAL poison of the MKB world: custom switches.

Easiest to be done are the MX Ergo Clears (shortened to eClears from now on). eClears have the advantage of accepting any actuation force from 50g to 62g. Anything lower won't bounce back up, while anything tougher makes no sense as you can just use stock clears. Chief among the so-called poison is the need to lube the switches, as well as almost insane amount of consistency tuning needed to make the switches feel and react the same way. A well tuned eClear is the closest feel I get to Topre.

One of my favourites, and also the biggest time-sink and expertise required will be Jailhouse Blues (JHB). JHB involves locking up the slider on MX Blues with either copper/steel wire or thin o-rings (also known as the insanitarium). This in effect shortens the travel time, reduces the loudness (esp for the insanitarium build) and turns the Blues from clicky to tactile. The closest feel I can describe it with is something akin to MX Clears.

So, in the end, what switches you end up with is up to you, but I suggest that you do a LOT more homework on the world of tactile MX switches (sans exotic types) before committing to one.
*
Nice insight, make me wanna try the ergo clear. tongue.gif

Anyway, what about custom linear switches? Are there only vintage black with 62g spring?

people here will not recommend any of those boards, instead, they will recommend brands like ducky/filco or even cm storm.

As for the reason why gaming keyboard are not welcomed here, you can go a few pages back and see the reason. There are lots of people asking and sifu's here already explain why.

Hmm, if you want some keyboard from gaming brand, then those two are perfectly fine. Else, if you just want some keyboard which has colorful leds, can consider ducky shine series.

Eventhough ducky doesn't have the multi color lcd, but you can get a keyboard with white led and install some led cover on the led which will make it emit a color.

Something like this. http://www.banggood.com/DayDream-LED-Cover...t-p-925839.html

by the way, anyone flipped the spacebar key with cherry stabilizers on?

I've tried flipping it and i kinda like the flipped spacebar but it felt very very mushy for some reason. I found out that people who thought the spacebar are too mushy will mod their stabilizer so that it will not be mushy anymore.

Anyone tried this mod before?
http://deskthority.net/workshop-f7/cherry-...t-t2780-90.html

Also, how do I know whether my keyboard is plate mounted or pcb mounted? My keyboard is ducky g2 pro 9087 tkl. I think it is a plate mounted but not too sure. Can I know without opening up the keyboard? If mine is plated mounted, does it mean that I can swap my stems and springs without desoldering?

Didn't know much about switches and haven't bought a keyboard yet. After I got my keyboard then I got interested and started looking deeper. smile.gif
Want to try out how does a smooth linear switch comparable to vintage black feels. biggrin.gif

Btw the geekhack group buy cost about rm100 for 100 switches.

Anyone buying from 016 GB willing to part with about 80-100 gateron black? biggrin.gif

most agent charge 1% fee and RM13-15 per kg
and the switches is RMB1.3 per switches x 100 =RMB130 =RM77
Shop to china warehouse is RMB10 =RM5.9
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10....&id=39999080987

so this is rough estimate i am not a agent but i bought few times from taobao so i  am just giving advice base on what i know
*
Hmmm, thanks alot bro. Meaning it would be the same price with the group buy on geekhack. <100 for 100 switches.

Will take this into consideration. Thanks. smile.gif
