Hi Tax Pros,
I will be going back to Malaysia for long term this year. I will be maintaing my PR and a residential address. I will have a full time job in MY, hence, MY income tax and epf (first timer) and a part time job in SG, hence also SG income tax and cpf contribution in SG. Go back SG during the weekends.
So I will be paying income tax for both side? MY income = MY income tax, SG income = SG income tax? This assumption correct? Any complications? Thanks.

QUOTE(ThanatosSwiftfire @ Mar 2 2015, 03:59 PM) Are they separate jobs? If yes then yup. Only taxed on ur respective country's income. But u may have a tax residency issue with ur sg income tht may mean the max tax rate of 20/22pc instead of the scaled rate. Separate jobs from 2 different companies. I thought the 20 or 22 % is for foreigners only? PR are always tax residents?

QUOTE(ThanatosSwiftfire @ Mar 2 2015, 09:46 PM) Nope. tax residency is separate from your citizenship/PR. A tax resident is generally someone who resides >183 days in a country (at least in the laws of Msia and Singapore (iinm)) Generally, the resident status of an individual is determined by the number of days he is physically present or exercises employment in Singapore. The individual will be regarded as a tax resident if he is in Singapore for 183 days or more in a calendar year. The calendar year refers to the period from 1st Jan to 31st Dec of the preceding year. O different one, I thought same. Say, the SG company outsources its work to me in Malaysia, in full time basis, and the working hours is night shift. How they tax those who got posted overseas for a very long period, say 5 years, but still under employment of SG registered company? QUOTE(deodorant @ Mar 2 2015, 09:49 PM) IIRC non tax resident is flat 15% tax rate or the progressive tax rate (whichever is higher) O its 15%, can save 5%.

My current MY offered pay to my SG pay is 1:2. Rm to Sgd. Your pay would depend on the local rate of your new job, not % of your previous jobs.

QUOTE(KilJim @ Mar 13 2015, 12:13 AM) Wow you mean dollar for dollar your offer in SG is twice the MY pay? I doubt that is based on local market normalization alone, what kind of job will be in such low supply in SG but highly supplied in MY? I do construction. No low supply in SG but only low wage in my hometown.

QUOTE(jitshiong @ Mar 17 2015, 11:02 AM) Everyone has different priorities.... I took similiar action in 2013, taking a huge paycut and return to Malaysia. Although the figure is not as huge as what JohnJon82 is making, but still a significant cut. Priorities will change as u grow older. When i first came to SG, my kid wasn't out yet. So it's ok... Things changed when my kiddo was born. I don't think i regret my action. Life is more fulfilling with loved ones around. Ditto. Eat porridge together better than eat rice alone. Maybe after few years priority change again then go back to SG again. Got to support gahmen's calling for contribution back to Malaysia. Maybe go back Malaysia work hard after few years can earn 20-30k rm leh...

QUOTE(jitshiong @ Mar 19 2015, 09:28 AM) I was in the same shoe last time, i'm an Industrial Engineering student. But i don't know what i want, so i just do whatever that was assigned to me. Lucky for me, now i know so i'm on track, but it's far from Industrial Engineering that i've studied for. EE is a very broad field, look at people you aspire to be in the future and follow their footsteps. You gotta have a goalpost, then only u know where you need to shoot. I thought you mechanical one? QUOTE(Celestine @ Mar 19 2015, 09:51 AM) That's a very good insight and advice coming from a 1st hand experienced person, much appreciated:)...yeah, i'm trying to be flexible here to explore all the possible opportunities esp in this economic situation, i believe in never try, never know. Hope i can get some luck at least to get an opportunity to fiddle around with while i'm young, don't want to regret in my older ages:P Thanks. EE mean electrical and electronic? If electrical then singapore power. Or join consultants to design the power plants and household electricity. Electrical engineers make good money. Electronics some are manufacturing, some research, sales etc... very broad... need to ask the ee guys for recommendations.

QUOTE(Celestine @ Mar 19 2015, 10:11 AM) Hi JohnJon, Yeah i saw many opportunities in electrical, was thinking going into that field instead of the semiconductor field which are mostly manufacturing, small portions of design and research. Do they take entry level electrical engineer though? They do take in entry level. Need to find the comapnyies only. I not familiar with electrical works but I see their boss drive big cars. Entry level consultants always sucky pay and long hour though. Like jitshiong said, u need to be clear what u want to do. If not wasting time around.

QUOTE(lkhua79 @ Mar 20 2015, 09:55 AM) Thx for the tips. Basically, my thought is to find a place that is, well a bit peaceful maybe. Anyhow, I have not been to Tampines for quite a while, so dont know how bad it is. But have to agree that the crowd in MRT, especially peak hour, is crazy. Guess that is the welcome sign to Singapore working life, I stay at Lavender. Its less crowded since its more to an outskirt office area with some hdbs. I don't like neighbourhood with bus and mrt interchange stations. Best to stay in walking distance from office to avoid the mrt crowd. Only the riches can enjoy a peaceful quite surrounding in Singapore. Fiona Chin, how's life staying in a 3 storey house with private pool?

QUOTE(ixole @ Mar 31 2015, 04:51 PM) Thanks for you answer i dont really understand the real situation. need to compare the expected salary in sg and malaysia. for example 3k salary start in may 1. i will get 3k net every month from may to dec 15? 2. when i need to pay the tax if work more than 183 days? ( pay annually or monthly?) SG company don't deduct your tax from your pay and pay it on your behalf. You pay your tax next year. SG fill personal income tax around March to April, payment around June/July. Tax can be done in monthly installments. If you are not tax residents, the company may hold your income tax contribution for you, need to ask those who work here before getting PR.

Hi all, I am going to cancel my Singtel mobile broadband plan end of the month. Its a 7.2mbps 50gb for 40 sgd per month which is no more in the market now. Current quota should be around 10gb for 40 sgd. I think we can do a account transfer to those who are interested.
Meet at Singtelshop at agreed time, you pay all the transfer cost, and the line is yours. PM me before end of the month if interested.

QUOTE(3rdEdition @ Apr 15 2015, 06:53 AM) thank you for your help You need to add in queue to clear sg custom, longer period if you don't have the autopass. Queue at sg custom for bus to jb custom, jam on causeway, and then the my custom queue. My fastest travelling time from queenstreet cw2 on non peak hour weekday to clearing jb custom is 45-50 mins. No queue no waiting time for bus and no jam. This post has been edited by JohnJon82: Apr 15 2015, 10:03 AM

QUOTE(arslow @ Apr 23 2015, 11:50 PM) EDIT: i was also looking at rooms at kallang and lavender, as there are a few places between 600-700 per month too there. I presume even these two places have 3-6 sgd meals? Thank you so much for your answer, again Lavender is good. Golden mile food court got some famous stalls with supermarket nearby. Haji lane also nearby. Mixed rice around 3 dollar. Stayed at Kallang also, but don't like that place. Hard to find food and grocery.

QUOTE(tampinmy @ May 14 2015, 07:42 PM) Let me tell you a workaround. First, make an appointment for the earliest possible date. Next, on Friday or Monday morning between 7 to 8 am, try amending your appointment, you can find some earlier date because I think the e-appointment server is being refreshed at that time,so it flushes the data so fresh slots are available. Try logging in few times if you don't succeed. I discovered this when I put up in 2012 and it was still the same last year when my friends tried it. Good luck Thanks for the tip. Hopefully I can get one slot to apply soon.
