Hi all, i saw alot of pro here. and i read some thread and some guide on overclocking. But then i need some advice / comment on my pc now.

Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (i think is barton core)
MOBO : MS-6590(KT6 Delta Series) VIA Chipset
RAM :Kingston pc3200 DDR400 512MB X 2
GPU : MSI FX5200 128MB
PSU : i not sure. But i think is a normal usable PSU only.
Heatsink :normal stock heatsink
Cooling :none

Is my pc set it ok for overclocking? I have tried oc before but is a ver noob oc. i jsut raise the FSB to 180-200 something without cooling.

I know that if i want to oc i need to have some cooling device or heatsink...

but i dunno which model and which is best for my board....
also my MOBO is it good to oc? is ok that it is not...

i need real comments. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

If my pc set is sucks or noob just stated that... because i'm still a oc noob... icon_idea.gif
bought this pc for 3 years+... rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

I will appreciate all your response! Thanks! rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

Firstly, you have heatsink. It's the original AMD stock heatsink. There is no way your Barton can run without any kind of cooling.

Secondly, you motherboard. I would say that it's not the right board for overclocking, thus it might be a waste.

Thirdly, you need a reliable power supply so that you can get the most stability out of your system especially when overclock. Overclocking stresses electronic components, so if your power supply cannot provide enough juice, there might be issues, or worse you'll end up with burnt rig/blown psu.

no point gettin new / 2nd hand mobo as u can get a k8 setup w/ affordable price. best bet would be stick w/ current setup, get a universal h/s + better psu(24-pins) so that u can use for future rig, be it s939 or am2. smile.gif

just my 2cents. wink.gif

I would like to knoe some heatsink and heat pipe differences..
I am confused between the performance of the heatsink and heat pipe..
heatsink perform better or heatpipe?
water cooling is the best?

U've got a lot to learn smile.gif

1. To maximise performance, u need a unlocked CPU. Lower the multiplier and Push the FSB to the max
2. With it, u need good rams that will do the job
3. The best chipset for AMD S462 is the NF2. Best boards to OC are Abit NF7 and DFI infinity/LP series
4. U also need a good quality PSU and HSF. PSU = Enermax, Antec. HSF = Thermalright Si97A,SLk series

@hongchiang
i think change mobo is a waste, save tat money 4 AMD AM2 better..

my advice.. buy a good heatsink..
suggest u get d one which can oso support AM2 de (4 using in d future)

since u r using Via KT600 mobo which lack in oc
ur pci/agp clock oni can fix (at 33/66Mhz) on 100/133/166/200Mhz (fsb)

so d proper oc will b:
11 (multiplier) * 200 (fsb) = 2200Mhz
i think ur multiplier is locked, so u oni can change fsb..
2500+ default fsb is 166mhz, but it should able oc 2 200mhz (if u r lucky laugh.gif)..

if u success, ur proc will b detected as 3200+ thumbup.gif

if u wanna oc, better change ur psu 1st..

since ur mobo use nvidia chipset which can fix pci/agp clock
u nid not 2 worry bout d improper fsb will made ur comp unstable

n ur slk800 can b said as a good heatsink dy
so wat u hv 2 do is jz test ur best fsb 4 optimum oc laugh.gif

by default, ur 2500+ should b 11 (multiplier) * 166 (fsb) = 1826Mhz
mostly multiplier had been locked so u can oni increase fsb 4 oc

suggest u adjust fsb within 166~200Mhz n test out d best fsb 4 ur comp
n do fix ur pci/agp clock at 33/66Mhz (i dunno whr 2 set coz i nvr use nvidia board tongue.gif)
don increase d voltage if ur comp can boot up n stable after oc

btw i think tis forum got sum guide on basic oc
mayb u can search around or ask soulfly (mod) 4 tat article

but my processor only at 46c
