Tell me whaju guys think.

http://newgrounds.com/portal/view/336099

Since we're talking bout animation, I'd like to know you guys opinions on the animation industry in malaysia.

What i heard is that animators of Saladdin were paid only 2k for their work? It sounds absurd. I'll have to reconfirm with my source.

Im currently worried that my future will be bleak if i choose to go with animation. Unless i work out of country. Or i switch to my next best thing, 3D modelling. Not that my work is awesome or anything. It's just the next thing i can do relatively well (http://nightshadow02.deviantart.com/gallery/digitalart/3d/?view=1&order=5&limit=24)

What am i walking into? rclxub.gif

haha.... cool..
but wished you had spend more times to the details of the cartoons there...
certain part, the images dont look the same.
anyway, the composition is interesting.

As long as you can master the skill, dont worry about your future.
You only had to start worrying when no ones interested in animation anymore.

hey there.

i am glad to hear any flash assignment website or whatever flashy here.. and glad that u post this biggrin.gif rclxm9.gif

i can get the idea of ur camera angle and character movement.. and ill wait for the final product. biggrin.gif.. this is only storyboard rite?

so, animation industry in malaysia..hmm i can say pretty low but nonetheless flare studios is now working on 3D animation that will hit sooner.. ( i cant reveal any details tongue.gif ) yes the animation is quite slow since the cartoon industry here also slow... we didnt hv adults that watch cartoons ( maybe the new age adults watch ) so many of cartoon studios here didnt get many sponsors. datuks and datins and menteri and big rich guy hv to support this company to grow. unsure.gif

about the saladin issue.. pity them lah shocking.gif ... where the huge budget goes? doh.gif unless they are the new graduates then it's like that.. it was maybe a give and take situation [ this is a pure assumptions .. i didnt hv any proof on this issue. i assume based on fresh grad goes out work and can earn 1.5 - 2.5k ]

bout future of animation in this country... someone has to make a change. yes if want to secure salary that is to secure job overseas but if we didnt make a change how can we expect for a change? perhaps maybe saladin also want to make a change to the whole media industry. maybe when saladin release.. all datuks open thier eye to the power of cartoon media and would like to salurkan bantuan and help support animation studios and they'll evolve from that part.. so we make a revolution.. and remember the people that make revolution will go much much hardships but maybe after that.. malaysia cartoon industry will revive.. who knows.. wink.gif

anyways.. the choice is up to u.. btw i doesnt mean that if we go to secure salary is a bad thing coz all of us have a different commitments and purpose in our life.... smile.gif

i would like to give a story.. u do flash so u'll familiar with Ragnarok Battle Offline.. at 1st.. the animator just want to promote Ragnarok Online by producing those animation as a fanart but later.. Gravity call him/her to do Ragnarok Battle Offline using his/her styles on characters.. lucky rite.. but at 1st he/she didnt work for money or what.. rolleyes.gif

and promoting my seniors works
http://lescopaque.com/

so what we can do is... to strive and survive.. sweat.gif

- oh... this all is my humble opinion smile.gif notworthy.gif -

[ OMG i'm slacking 30 minutes of my works just now to compose this tongue.gif ]

animations in malaysia?

first, if 2d animation to be broadcast on tv, people not really will use flash to do it. they go for toonboom or some other stuff. if it is flash animation for flash game, it need to be more detail on the graphic. Flash animation is quite screw in malaysia, people wont pay you alot and it take quite long to do.

about the 3d animation, there are alot of opportunities out there. the clients for 3d animation studio not really need to be local clients. Atleast I know there is one 3d animation studio that doing very interesting game trailers for overseas game company, they just cant reveal it because of some agreement/contract thing.

about the saladin thing, being paid 2k as monthly salary I think is quite ok if they are fresh graduate. If ten people is doing the animation, the company will need to take out more than 20k per month just to pay them.

If you ask me, I would prefer to draw comic rather than doing animation.

about your animation, need to see the full version before comment, tongue.gif
the style is something i like though

thanks for the informative responses ppl.

well this is actually the final trailer (which means im not going to do anything more to improve it, i was just doing this as an experiment when playing with angles and suddenly it turned into a trailer) for a webcomic that me and a friend are making. I'll post the links to them in a new thread. =)

on animation : Ive heard of Les'Copaque. MMU right? Studying in MMU right now. hehe

yes hopefully saladdin will cause a revolution. Why cant we malaysians make something anime-like; action, gripping story, relatively good animation and then sell it to tv1 or something instead of having them to import foreign anime or cartoons. is it that cheap to get the license to air them?

i really enjoy drawing comics and making flash animations and i do them with passion, making sure everything looks perfect as long as i have time. this is an example of 2 weeks of nonstop work for an assignment

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/310824

got daily second place too. whee.

anyway, as i was saying, as passionate as i may be about doing them, i still need to make a living. you understand.

whats so great about toonboom anyway?

Les'Copaque was mmu student and their misi mustahak won some awards. If you ask them now, whether they are doing what they like or doing something to earn money. I believe they will also tell you they are earning money now. Most of time, you can only do what you like when you get a grant/investment/sponsor from someone.

talking about selling animation to tv1, actually some local animation studio been doing that for some time, some even sold their products to nickelodeon.

the other thing is not everyone in malaysia like anime, some even hate it. I quite doubt TV1 will like the "anime" style instead of the "malaysia style".

ToonBoom vs Flash, I think you can search google abit. and will find out more. ToonBoom is more widely use in 2d animation for tv broadcasting I assume.

awesome, u get randomness.

well, when i said 'what i like' i meant anything to do with animation. that is full of action at least.

so ppl rather watch some sort of usop sontorian thing? what are the local animations that are on national television anyway? i got to see what dey got that we cant provide.

I agree on 2D animation being a bleak career choice- Overworked, underpaid, overcliched (looking generic really fast these days)

IMO you'd better be homing your 3D/Zbrush skills for overseas 3D game intro studios like Blur. They pay, you enjoy, and no need to deal with Malaysian majikan (lol!)

i don't know if they're still looking for people, but as you know when it comes to desperate times - anyone will do. biggrin.gif

EDITED : btw i like the way the concept art goes and the camera angle and such. it's nice for character introduction. imagine to have it in detail and more colors, that'll be even better.

however the drawing looks a bit messy at times, perhaps cleaner pen-lines would make it nicer.

and i guess that file size is mostly hogged by the soundtrack. smile.gif

as to your soundtrack - what format were you using? lesser music size would be good, perhaps reduced quality MONO MP3.

its the default flash mp3 compression format. if it gets any lower in size, itd prolly sound like crap. which it does already anyway
