Comments from LYN actives on Rappelz;

**Edited & excerpted for the finer/uglier points from posts in this thread. Will be updated from time to time and meant as a player to player review and experiences/fun/bore factor MAY VARY INDIVIDUALLY AND ACCORDINGLY**

zaakath said in his post dated Sep 26 2006, 11:56 AM
"What little I tried of it, seems okay, the introduction to the game is good as it leads you around nicely. Mob spawns were increased after the first day but still not enough."

SilverCrimz covered some points in his post dated Oct 7 2006, 04:42 PM
"The smooothers time for us is during early mornings. The lag kicks in around 10+ well thats what i felt. It's pretty much similliar to Silkroad but alot easier. In fact, in Sro, you need careful planning what skills you really need but in Rappelz you can pretty much get any skills you like just that you need to patience to actually farm for jlvls."

jenniferjen recapped in fuller detail in her post dated Oct 9 2006, 12:47 PM
"Anyhow, this game will get more interesting after level 20, with new gear and skills, not to mention some quest which require you to take down bosses which is exterely strong! I like the way the whole guild team up to beat a boss, hard but in the end everyone solve the quest which gives like 16k exp! I like how the skill would motivate you keep leveling and solving quests to level up, there is just too much to explore, and even after level 30+, you might just be in the 10% of exploration of the whole rappelz world. There is dangerous places, town which you rather travel that tele, and also dungeons. The event is good to keep you coming back, from grinding event (achieving level 30 in 1 week), Gladiators event fighting level of bosses with your party, Guild and pvp fight event till lot more to come. Community is not bad at all, as if you join a nice guild, everyone will be willing to help especially on taking down the boss. The real drawback would be the lagness, sometimes, the lagness was so bad that you cant even play at all, random dc happen too (due to server resetting), and there is still some skill bugs around, but hey this is a beta, so we wouldnt want to expect too much. If we can hang on to LC so long even thou the game was so boring, why not give rappelz a try! All in all, a game which people start migrating from even WOW to rappelz!"

sniperwolf with his P.O.V on the 'darker' sides in his post dated Oct 19 2006, 03:40 PM
"All the factors you listed above can already make a good game down. What the point of having good game when users cant actually enjoy it or play it anytime without concerning lag or foce themselves up early in the morning just to patch or maybe enjoy a few hours of gaming. Haha I dont actually mind the graphic much la as I enjoy the game play and can play anytime when free and like to. If just merely comparing the graphic, I do think Lineage2 is better as compare to Rappelz...." "it give me the impression as this game is not that good as it seems. The reason I play games is for relaxing and enjoying its content, but turn out most of you here are more like suffering than enjoying. Forcing yourself up early in the morning to play just in order to keep yourself competitive to me its just bit too stressed. I dont think this will be good for your own health and work in long run.."

By the way, just in case if any of us forgot or simply confused on how to log into the forums, use your gPotato U/N and ID details.

Lagging? Here's how to troubleshoot that:-
1. Do a hard reboot to your ADSL modem/router by turning it OFF then back ON. This will allow the modem/router to relog you back and it will try to detect and connect to a different external/public IP than what you'd connected to previously. The suggested IP to connect to for Rappelz is: 60.5x.x.x instead of 218/219.x.x.x if you're a Scramyx user.

2. You can also perform a soft reboot by accessing the modem/router's page through your default web browsers such as IE, FF or Opera. You do this by typing the default gateway address (usually 10.0.0.2 for some brands, or 192.168.254.1/192.168.25x.x for other brands, refer to its respective manuals or Google those up). For Aztech users, you do this by either clicking on 'Save settings' and for the rest of the brands, there's always a properly labeled button.

ADVISORY: BOTH of above steps are HIGHLY 'areas of service'-dependent, meaning that if your area is served by a fixed 218/219.x.x.x ranges of dynamic IPs, then (to put this bluntly) you're shit outta luck.

Further reads to address laggy conditions are here.

LYN actives' guilds' list and information
*IMPORTANT PROSPECTIVE GUILDIES ADVISORY! PLEASE READ*
1. Information listed here is correct 'at press time' as supplied by the respective guild leaders/co-leaders/members and may change accordingly to their respective guilds' discretions. Refer to point no.2 please...

2. Please do the necessary homework and access the supplied guilds' website URLs to understand the guilds' rules, codes of conduct & requirements. Participate in the available guild forums OR DO NOT BLAME THE GUILD should you fail to voice any grievances/ ideas/ suggestions sufficiently.

3. Be advised that if this is your 1st time in attempting to join and participate in a guild of an online game, guilds ARE NOT FOR;
A. LEECHING for items.
B. BEGGING, WHINING AND POLLUTING the chatbox for partying/levelling help.
C. 'LIFE INSURANCES' for you if you're a ganker or griefer. (means that you PK for more than fun which is to abuse others...)
D. BRAGGING RIGHTS when it's cooler that excellent guilds are highly reputed by merits, not by 'over-enthusiastic' members.

Guild summary by zaakath in his post Today (09 Nov 2006), 10:05 AM
"The link below shows the guild I am in with an active forum in the guild members section mostly which are for those in the guild. Base of clients are from Malaysia, Singapore,Australia but we have a few Euros and American players. We actively group at night regularly killing Lost Child, Half Wing and another rooster mob for the life of me I can't spell. Most of the guildies are in their 20's now with the highest at 33. We are not hardcore players but we group alot and will slowly be progressing to dungeons. Most players have experince in MMORPG from everquest, guildwars, WOW etc. Note you must be 18 and above but special consent can be made after discussion with Nenime the guild leader"

2. Harmonia
Guild's website: http://z10.invisionfree.com/Harmonia/index.php?act=idx
Guild's primary game server: Tortus
Guild's alternate server: Yeti (sister guild named Symphonia)

Guild summary by jenniferjen in her post Today (09 Nov 2006), 12:27 PM
"very active guilds with active hardcore players from Tortus server. People base in many region around the world, cause the guilds itself are based more on hardcore that regional factor. Most players are active 24 hours and now almost half of the members in guild are station in the dungeon grinding. Average level of players are 35 with the highest 53 (Already more than 5 players in guild achieving 50 mark). We do have some casual players which care less on grind, like me (still hanging on level 41), but everyone seem to be progressing well, and helping each other, especially for dungeon grinding that prove to give lot more exp that expected. We also got an extending guild in Yeti, Symphonia. That all for now... cya..."

Ok..Reporting in for 1st day of CB...

IGN: Meibatsu
Char/Class/Gender: Asura/Male
Level: 4 *lol* can't be bothered with levelling at this stage.

To start off:-
1. Anyone selected for the CB might wanna turn down the texture bar to half for the graphics settings 1st before anything or use the 'Medium' setting in the Options/Settings accessible by Alt+Z hotkey for System's options.

2. Mega laggy. A normal thing for 1st day.

3. Pretty good tutorial phase at beginners' NPC.

4. Yeah I forgot SS some =p Pardon me on that.

5. Yeah not sure yet if Asura guys or girls can dual wield yet. Got a basic weapon for the 1st quest and can't seem to equip that in dual wield mode.

6. Map is extensive enough with the training island (beginners' zone) well isolated. Probably to let the tutorial stage be properly participated by all.

7. The basic skills are upgrade-able with NO NPC dependency. You can allocate the JP (Job points) on the fly by the skills window or Alt+S. A nice thing really. The proper 'Up' button would be highlighted if you meet the needed requirement.

Will be adding more soon. And thanks to jenniferjen for having to put up with my incessant chats lol. Crazy CB test timed at 3am >.< so I had to add something to do to keep me awake whilst I was running around.

Speaking of the incoming OB, (which is soon at around this Monday give or take...) patch servers are up now. Better patch the client up now prior to OB opening.

1st post has been edited for clarity. Added the latest download links for the client and 2 links for some guides. Best option as yet for guides would be to browse through Rappelz official forums (link at footer). I can't understand why they haven't bothered to totally revamp the official pages to finalize the basics?

LOL and I'd only got the time to patch the client as I'm posting this. FFS it's almost like it's re-dl'ing everything o.O?

Congratulations to all of you for your current progresses in Rappelz heh biggrin.gif

I got caught up with my freelance tasks, open houses and whatnot. All I did that's Rappelz-related was that I'd updated the client at launch day ~>.<~... *sigh*..need to see whether my Gaia guy's there or not.

Anyway, I spruced up the 1st post again. Removed what's by now unnecessary details, updated the game client dl links, added a 'scroll down to read reviews' part for prospective players and reedited the FAQs links.

My question right now is.. which is the most active Malaysian/LYN-related Rappelz guild here in any servers? Would I be allowed to list the specifics for recruitments' drives or is there a need to? Let me know OK?

If there's any plans for guild merges or anything, that'd be most suitable to really update the 1st post with a proper player list. I'd be looking at posts again later today to for a list down anyways.

again GL and HF y'all happy.gif

(refer to post's date)
1st post changelogs:
1. realigned several texts and resized some to the smallest scale for better layouts and readability.

2. changed the 3rd ss to let prospects view an example of the awesome Rappelz' pets.

3. updated and added guilds' list & info section. Prospects can view highlights in purple texts for faster reads. Figured that guild members' posted descriptions says best than what I can shorten out.

4. scanned through all posts for possible materials for the 1st page and noticed dualshock's request for a players' list. Thank you for reminding me blush.gif and with no time wasted i had it done. But as all of you can see, there's a few missing pieces of information but I'm sure I'll be able to gather the needed data when people gets to repost any newer main chars' deets & such.

-P.S:- I understand about guilds' 'confidentiality' or whatever, but I'd highly suggest that ALL LYN Rappelz players move to Tortus? Easier for people to help out and I think they can cater for the guild-less as well. We're all Malaysians mostly anyways thumbup.gif

thunder5 eh? Sounds like a really interesting download manager to try. Care to share the dl links for that and is there any English version of it?

Speaking of IP changes, on my side of things, I seem to be suffering more of a client-side lag when getting back to the training camp or any zones with loads of players. 512megs of RAM is really the bare minimum for Rappelz...*sigh* sweat.gif Maybe I should really rethink my end of year shopping priorities heheh

To make things short, I would say this game is not meant for us to play on normal time frame. ...

As for midnight, I tested out few times and find no problem concerning on the lag (I slept earlier around 8pm+ and wake up at 4am+ to test it out).
While excerpting sniperwolf's post, I'm sticking with his findings and rightly so that maybe gPotato prioritizes Rappelz' bandwidth optimization around North American's time zones. It's hard to blame them in that aspect, considering the game servers' physical locations (correct me if I'm wrong..?). Not to mention that our local 'normal' time may be 12 hours ahead of theirs for us to sync properly or comfortably in any circumstances.

The issue of IP changes can be definitely attributed to the main inspiration in my biggest sig... tongue.gif Proper ISPs would've ensured bandwidth stability across ALL and ANY IP ranges it serves to but of course as of now, it's up to Frodo...

I've added Rappelz to the exception list (I treat ALL MMORPGs game clients the same..) on the default Windows Firewall and it seems to have but minimally improve the situation. I don't use 3rd party ones like ZA or FS, as I constantly tweak with what I got on my ADSL modem router.

I dunno but... I'd always been a bit more on the 'superstitious' side, and I always add all online games clients and launchers (stuff that comes before your usual login nags) into the firewall's exception list. More often than not, that seems to beat Screamyx's bad moodswings now and then.

But yeah for the record, Rappelz' updates is sh1t longer than any I've ever experienced even compared to Silkroad's MAJOR updates.

It did occur to me to address this subject in the 1st post. However... TMNut's wildly erratic performances (which is by now...should be a 'default' knowledge for the casual users anyway..) across the IPs' board for almost every applicable thing, made that idea seems redundant at the moment.

But of course, I'll add the approriate LYN tech Networking Tech Support section's links and some how-to's for some good measures.

Yo.. To those level 20 down and below, holler if you play in Tortus (ign: 7thMeibatsu/Gaia SS/Male) and in need of a grinding buddy. I just got my lazy backside to train my toon till 18 now =p and best to note that I'm a casual player. I don't care about my quests atm and I'm pretty bummed up coz my bloody 'ayam kampung' is SO SLOW at grinding itself.

@Daniel89
Yeah if you already have a gPotato acc, it's possible. You can also choose to wait until Epic III's launch which should be soon this 21st.

As is officially... As you can see, the primary concerns would be CPU and RAM requirements. Even so, I've seen people with FAR FAR lower specced rigs who'd reported NO issues in play. The best habit is TURN OFF EVERY BG apps and run .bat files to TURN OFF those unnecessary Windows services BEFORE game play. And 'eye candy' is USELESS if you can't enjoy a title properly, remember that. In my case, I'm only annoyed when going in and out of towns, my rig can't take took much of those AFK players but I'll note that it was FAR lighter back in iSRO days. *shrugs*

I highly doubt if the rest with leeter rigs even set anything at the highest settings anyway, because they won't wanna gamble on the client-side when it's erratic enough on the network side. Especially for us TMNut Screamyx people. On the other hand, search for previous posts by sniperwolf and look at his sig and you'll notice that his rig can more than take on 90% of ANY p2p or f2p titles out there but the current 'curse' is the bandwidth problem.

It's more on the time zone basis and it's not really that bad, depending on when you want to fit it in your schedules.

I'm having fun 'rerolling' (LOL.. might seem weird to you guys/gals but hey?) because I'm more inclined to start over after Epic III. So I'll be changing from my primary IGN and I'll be shouting "Any LYN lowbies wanna party?" or sanything with 'lyn' in it, look out for that from time to time.

BTW ppl of Yeti.I have a guild which I just made to communicate with frens. But many of em have stop.So I was thinkin we lyn ppl should gather in one guild.I think some of u have seen my pink emblem CrashHeadBunnies guild tongue.gif It'll be cool if u all could join me.

But of course if you're happy with ur current guild n unwilling to move, dont wry bout it.I understand that if you're in an established guild and not wanting to join a guild with hardly anyone in it lol.But it's just a suggestion smile.gif

If eventually no one joins,Ill disband the guild in time, since it's pretty much pointless with my frens stoppin n all sad.gif
+10 vote

I can agree to this since I plan to reroll anew after Epic III and my only suggestions is for you (or rather, those who'd willing to join?) to vote for a new 'home' game server other than Tortus. Honestly I couldn't care less if it's gonna be Pantera but since the current PvP rulesets are nerfed and there's no point (territorial, economic, political and social risks : rewards for guild wars) to even try that server so far. Plus I'm looking and I agree to gather the more casual players (NON-hardcores) under one guild, so we can just have a clique to 'lepak' and have fun at it in-game.

Let's see if other new LYN Rappelz' lowbies can agree to this.

Well from my experience, being in a strong active hardcore guild is really painful.

Not only time is spent into the game a lot, but the commitment that you need to put in. IS not fun at all seing ur guild mate having fun in the time attack or seige attack while you cant do much to help since you are low level. (Yeah lvl 50 in my guild is very low!).

That is why, if you plan to play casually, join eq8all, in what ever server is going to play, as he is more experience than most of the new guys out there... At least you wont get lost. smile.gif

But to tell the truth, you will going to miss lot of fun if you are being slow (I don't like to agree to this but is true). All you do now is missions and quest, and when you get to 40+, all you do is grind and grind in the dungeon. Pretty standard if you want to get fast exp. So be prepare to fce what the truth in the game.

Which is precisely what I'm jaded of... In any case, I believe that casuals should have an almost equal footing (in gaining fun, in own pace) in whatever there is to be gained and being able to contribute in any manner in one guild that can accommodate players like us, will help to achieve that. And as for hints, my preferred choice of game server for this particular purpose is Lydian.

So far what i see for end game is most probably the dungeon time attack (where you take down several strong boss in a 2 party 16 players formation, in a litmited time), then the seige war where you compete against other guilds (which complete the time attack in the dungeon earlier), to own the dungeon for a week.

Some would call this 'raiding'. The elements for the dungeon siege time attacks are in fact an accurate, blow for blow features of one. From my own personal view, the end game should have been more varied. More so on the 'journey' to that end-game. Not to poop anyone's party but this subject seems to be the core debate in a lot of MMORPGs' related forums as to why WoW can't seem to retain longer term players, as raiding is deemed as WoW's ultimate Achilles' heel. In fact, I'm willing to bet that there's significant amount of ex-WoW players in-game on Rappelz right now. And contents-wise, this is ALREADY a major concern since most players would concern themselves with the 'journey' instead of the 'end-game'.

may i knoe is it this game will start at 20th dec? coz i install the wat latest client seems the start button cannot press 1.. 1.6gb client omg..
anyone can tell me is it the game nice ? compare to wow?

For starters, I wouldn't even start to compare this to a p2p title with an average of 6.5 -> 7 million active subcribers as its player base o.O? But to be clear, I've seen scores of ex-WoW players (mature ones..not kiddies) in a broad range of F2P titles. Plus WoW's 'mandatory' raiding is the order of the day at higher levels, so why pay for that when you can get the same (if not, almost) experience for free?

The stated 20th Dec could be 21st for us Malaysians, so make sure (if you can) that the necessary game client is downloaded completely before that. Hell LOL it took me 9 hours to finish the damn thing 2 days ago. doh.gif

1st post updates: Game client (Epic III) download links has been added

@vailance
Let me repost some of the updates/fixes coming for Epic III:-
Under 'Gameplay Changes';
* The attack speed of all players have increased.
-Attack speed of weapons has been increased.
-Attack speed of monsters has been increased to balance the changes.

* Some skills have had their cast time reduced.

* Attack power of some weapons has been increased.

* Base Crit Rate increased from 3% to 6%.

* 3 Crit Rule added. After a player crits the next 2 attacks have a higher chance to crit.

* Prices of all weapons and armor has been lowered.
-Upgrade prices by blacksmiths has been reduced.

* EXP and JP rates have been significantly increased.

So yes, there will be significant EXP and JP rates' increase. All of the above translates into a smoother and a bit faster gains for players as compared to now. We'll deal better dmgs with the increased atk spds & weaps atk power, cooldown times for skills are lowered so that means better timings for skill spamming if possible. 3 crit rules enables us to have higher chances for better mobs' finishing.

But the real gains 'deal maker' would still be to group or party. At least, that's how I see the reason for the current grind factor's design.
