It will take a Schrodinger's horned cat to exist if the next episode of Mardock Scramble is to be screened here.

note: horned cat means "kucing bertanduk" in Malay.

Since it was being held at PWTC aka UMNO's venue, so the above headline actually for the opposition's newspapers. And you should add "BN LULUSKAN" at the front.

Sh!t, I suddenly went into politic, should just stay on course.

idk why PWTC...but I guess probably there would not be a single mainstream paper gonna report about wth cosplayers gonna do there...in fact, they look this as "Japan phenomenon" rather then "local outburst of culture shock"..

yeah, if the opposition gonna make a news, it's just "BN LULUSKAN"...arghhh, why I'm talking politics here!! I NEED CONCERT!! ARE THEY CONCERT THERE??~

Bukankah ACG itu Anime, Comics and Games? Tiada termaktub pun di dalam terma itu cosplay. Jika kamu mahukan temasya yang betul - betul menjadikan cosplay itu sebagai tumpuan maka kamu boleh mengikuti temasya seperti Cosfest ataupun CureFest.

I don't think there will be a report about what cosplayers gonna do there. Many people actually underestimate anime just like there's no single report about how Comic Fiesta had more attendants than Iphone 4S launching. If this situation was given to Kpop function, it would turn out to be a big hoo-haa.

lol dude, what is an anime event without cosplayer? anime festival =/= broadcasting anime to you only. it also brings in the anime cultures and stuffs. i mean, most of time cosplay is the highlight of the event tongue.gif

Thus you are missing the point. I am not saying it's only about anime. I am just saying it's NOT ONLY ABOUT COSPLAY. Cosplay itself is just a small subsection of the otaku culture. For AFA they mostly wanted to feature all of what makes an otaku culture in Japan, thus why they usually have industrial talks with the important people in the industry. It's the same with Comic Fiesta where it tries to showcase these unique cultures. But sadly misinformed people think cosplay IS the main reason why the events are held, which leads to incidents like Paul Ortiz, a famous name in animation culture was largely ignored by the event goers. There is a reason that it's dubbed "Cosplay Fiesta" by goers you know...

The sad thing in Malaysia is that since Cosplay garners a LOT of attention (I mean why it shouldn't? People wearing wear clothes in weird wigs walking around weirdly) means that it's like shit attracting flies from all over. And when events organisers realised this, they do what a cheapskate Malaysian would do, and milked it for all it's worth and more. More and more events are now featuring cosplays, some events which have no relation with ACG or Japan at all! And sure enough, people flocks to these events wanting to see these weird people in weird costume like they would visit a zoo.

Don't get me wrong. I do enjoy these cosplays (as long as they are good, well thought of, and creative) and I have a lot of cosplayers as friends. But I just don't like how it's being exploited to the point that people now think it's THE focal point of each and every event. Outsiders would look at these events and immediately come to the (wrong) conclusion that it's just another gathering for people in weird clothing. And even the cosplayers themselves are changing. Gone are the old guards who put their effort and thoughts in doing cosplays and in are noob kids who cosplays just because it's the "in" thing for them. Ask any average new cosplayer who Ayase was during the recent Animax Carnival and they will look at you with a blank stare.

So what really am I talking about anyways? I dunno, I might be bitter with how people are hyping cosplay too much during each and every ACG event in Malaysia that I just posted without thinking much. Durr

Off hand comment

I find that whenever someone uses the term "Otaku Culture", I have the urge to laugh really loud.
