I was close to completing my project when i discovered that it was in RGB vmad.gif
is there some way to convert it to CMYK without compromising the quality and having all layers intact?

Try

-flatten image
-copy in new canvas with Resolution setting set to : 300
-color mode : RGB

then print it out !

changing the mode would do. i do that all the time, converting RGB to CMYK - no problem.

no need to flatten image or lose quality.

hmm.. but i think just converting from RGB to CMYK the colors would run alittle.. because they are different color modes after all.. :\

Would there be a problem later if i complete the whole thing in RGB then flatten it and convert it to CMYK? The colors will be a little off but not really noticiable compared to when i converted with the layers intact. But will i encounter any problems when i send it to print?

And i think the colors got messed up when i converted it with the layers because i used lots of layer blending effects...it seems the blending effects doesn't work the same in CMYK.

yeah, slightly smile.gif from my experience - not noticable.

cos i've done quite a number of brochures, they were done in CYMK mode of course. and i've done some on RGB by mistake and converted to CYMK.

after print out - looks fine, like how it looked on monitor.

if you read the threadstarter's post, he did ask "is there some way to convert it to CMYK without compromising the quality and having all layers intact?"

Did you read his latest one though?
"The colors will be a little off but not really noticiable compared to when i converted with the layers intact."
And if you looked up, yeah there was a post directly above mine.

when i send for printing, i normally would've saved it into JPG and PDF for printing. so usually on my CD there will be JPG and PDF and also PSD (or whatever source file)

Thanks for your help

i've managed to convert it to CMYK biggrin.gif but i still had to merge the layers. There is indeed a difference with the layer blending between RGB and CMYK...try using multiple overlay layers with a white color object and you will see the difference.

@goldfries
what are the advantages of sending it in PDF format to print?

biggrin.gif you know la, layers. they can be moved or hidden and stuff. ok i'm paranoid, just don't want them to screw up my stuff. biggrin.gif but mainly is because some places don't have photoshop, so at least there's a PDF file to print from.

normally i put all the stuff in the CD. PDF, PSD, JPG. (yes, i could've put BMP too but i didn't tongue.gif) and also the FONTS as well.

one of my printers use CorelDraw. others have Photoshop. the one that prints my brochures, i never asked them what they used as the source - more important is that their results are good. biggrin.gif
