Data shouldn't auto drain unless there's something that triggers the usage.

Not overly familiar with iPhone,but do you have any.third party data monitor?

Normally, if there's a lot of background activity, your phone heating up or battery drain will be giving you a good indicator.

Since there's no such thing, it makes this an interesting situation that I've alerted my colleagues about. Hopefully we'll be able to provide an update.
