QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Sep 16 2006, 01:37 PM) In the wild, well, most of the land tortoises try to stay on the dry areas.... when rain, if a little is ok, they do enjoy a little rain. If say african and indian tortoises... well, they don't get much rain. But when flood, they drown... no choice. But most of the tortoises will go to higher land sometimes... yes, they are quite sensitive to detecting temperature changes. they can even travel in the direction of the rainstorm, like galapagos tortoises. some burrow into the ground, only to come out when the floods subside, while others let themselves be carried away by the flood tides only to find themselves in another place |

QUOTE(EuJax @ Sep 16 2006, 10:11 PM) Yes 'water fish' or 'sui yee' is one type of softshell. I like Florida Softshell...kicking myself for not getting it earlier when they are available in pet shops Regards but one drawback tho, is that softshells can be quite susceptible to shell rot or ulcers because of their ...um....soft shells..! if you keep a softshell do make sure you have a good filter running in your tank and do regular water changes. keeping it in stagnant water without filter is likely to cause disease to the turtle. |

QUOTE(uzairi @ Oct 10 2006, 08:10 PM) That's a Longer Head Musk. Never. Why ? coz i dont think anyone would want to be bitten by any snappers. They have a very strong beak and enormous strength. If they bite, more likely ur flesh will be gone. Worst, finger gonna be missing. are chinese softshells another notorious biter? i had an ex neighbour whose big softshell's jaws can slice through a japanese slipper strap, which broke clean |

I hate the fact that almost every kid and occasional young adult end up with a dead RES on their first to second attempt. but then again, a sacrifice is a just cause if the owner is willing to learn from mistakes and not just let it die like that without knowing the cause.

QUOTE(Enferno @ Oct 13 2006, 09:44 PM) IMHO a starter tortoise for me would be a star. but there are other hardier species of tortoise from our native country though they would be rare/protected. this is my two cents, but uzairi our tort/turtle master is in a better position to answer this hehe.... |

QUOTE(uzairi @ Oct 14 2006, 01:22 PM) Yeah, actually its okay to get a Star but half of them suffer from dead tortoise. Some because lack of care and some died because of metabolic bone desease and this one cant be avoided. So if u dare to take the risk, why not aite ? And guys, my fren just said they have chitra chitra in stock, Rm650 for 4-5 inch specimen. Anybody interested ? Some of Chitra-Chitra's pic. --> http://www.chelonia.org/chitra_gallery.htm I've seen one giant in Aquaria KLCC. But that one is WC, so do they get that big in captivity? |

QUOTE(uzairi @ Nov 29 2006, 07:19 PM) Okay, sure. Nice boxies, I like the way their plastrons are able to seal their limbs off so it looks like a neat empty shell without things poking out of it Here's the pic i promised to you Leviathan. Sorry for the delay.Only now i can transfer the pic. Been waiting from Noon till now to get into my Photobucket but always error. |

Here's the old dude in Aquaria KLCC at the flooded forest section. He seems to be gigantic....but I think the water depth is playing optical tricks to the eye...I think he might be a Pelochelys bibroni

QUOTE(uzairi @ Dec 1 2006, 09:16 PM) Pelochelys bibroni(Asian Giant Softshelled Turtle) or Chitra chitra(Striped Narrow Headed Soft Shell turtle) might be that turtle. They both looks almost the same. No doubt about the giants(Pelochelys) there was a huge specimen, so might be Pelochelys since they can grow very big. Nice turtle i must say, someone offered me Chitra Chitra before but im not interested. oh dear, they do really look almost alike QUOTE(julchin_09 @ Dec 1 2006, 09:50 PM) Thanks dude. THAT THE TURTLE i was talking about. SO MANY of my friends overlooked that section and I was frustrated trying to explain to them about this turtle....... hahaha worse cases, you know, my cousin took a while before he realised that the 'turtle rock' he was looking at was alive. This post has been edited by funkychips: Dec 1 2006, 10:04 PM |

uzairi, you tried keeping the musk turtle? i'm tempted to get one. my cousin is giving away his haul-out, tank and lamp. does it exude musk if just picked up and not harassed in other way?

hivemy, you'll have to get a tank for your tort. Get a basking lamp as well if you don't have time to sunbath your tort. From what I see in the pics you posted, I assume you must have it for sometime already? The shell formation and underfed look plus the sickness is because it hasn't been getting enough sunlight and warmth. Btw would like to know what have you been feeding it?
