Was wondering how many out there are using and paying for original Antivirus software.

Just by paying the license, does the 'updates' last long? Or would suddenly they tell you to buy new software (more cost) after less than 1 year ... and they won't issue updates to your existing software?

Depends, if you use Avast antivirus (nice one !!! I stop using NOrton and switch to this one thumbup.gif ), it's free for home edition.

yeah..depends...some antivirus company might stop providing you the automatic updates once your license expired...you need to renew the license in order to receive the updates

I think what threadstarter is asking is if the virus company will stop giving updates, even though want to pay yearly.

Looking at how antivirus versions are popping up, not sure how long the companies are supporting them.

Same like Microsoft... they also stop supporting old versions after a while. Force people to upgrade software, for a fee of course.

Free = good?

It's probably lacking some security or loophole.

not really

free av edition usually comes with limited features, while pay version, will include extra features, such as Proactive Defense [KAV]

dude..

McAfee = Expensive == sux and screw up.

Avast == free == never screw up your computer, good update and tight security

Norton == need pay == Overall usage ok, and update is good, have their own virus removal tool

Norton... Overall Usage ok? Wow... Which version? I never had a good impression of Norton for these last few years. I must say that their Norton System Works was fine, but not the AV.

Bit Defender is only good in detection rates... Just like Norton... But then, have you really used it? My impression of it is like... Darn... Scan so slow... Even Kaspersky is so much faster (To think kaspersky was like snail...)....

If just looking at reviews is enough to make up your own mind... Susah ler...

That is due to their "scan before use" option... Hopelessly slow...

depends... for home use .. free anti virus like AVG or Avast is works pretty well..

paid anti virus are concerns for office n company use bcos they r commerical.. as they are not allowed to use home edition or anti V softwares..

of cos.. there is fee to pay for updates.. ..
