wow! this is the 'exception' and only cheer for the night. wonder why oil is going up as Bloomberg reported 2 hrs ago that US now has record stockpile of oil...nearing 500m barrels! and the commentators was asking how and where could US store them as time goes on ?
*
record inventory is still building; increase is lower than expected.

how shd I put it > wounds growing but at slower pace ? ..... trouble booming but at smaller rates? .... confused here. actually, is it good or bad for the economy, or the energy industry?
*
the market has already priced in all the bad news, incl expected inventories and buildup.

so, if incr for the week or month is lower than estimate, markets will react to push price up. the price will dive if incr is more than estimates.

don't forget some of those oil and energy stocks has lost 60% of their peak value, not unlike oil price itself.

as for where to store the oil, i read a few things. yes, lots of floaters, tankers, depots now pretty full.... but...there seems to be ample "emergency capacity" in those tanks (engineers call that safety factor) that can be used. plus, there are still many tankers out there ready to be chartered for storage, a matter of price. story may go a year but not more than that, i would think. nobody's panicking! biggrin.gif

yes, watch xle a bit..

it is not as sensitive to crude price as the oil etf's; may not benefit as much from the current crude price rally.

crude at 59.50, oih is up 2.3% in the middle of a nasdaq carnage! ohmy.gif

Sell in May and go away? It's a little more complicated than that.

We asked our partners at Kensho to look at the last 20 years of May to October trading, as well as November to April.

From the May to October period, the S&P 500 was positive 65 percent of the time, or 13 of 20 occurrences, for an average return of 1.4 percent.

For the November to April period, the S&P 500 was up 85 percent of the time, or 17 of 20 occurrences, for an average return of 7.1 percent.

What are your thoughts about US energy funds? I have been undecided about the bottom and worried that I missed it because climbing again. Buy in May no matter what? (Please, no lectures about timing and emotions. I'm all that.)
*
what us energy funds are u refering to?
oil stocks like xom, enegry etf's like xle or oil etf's like oih?

QUOTE(AllOjac @ May 3 2015, 08:57 PM)
Hi guys,

Just a quick question: which online broker do you suggest for US stocks trading?

I was trying to open an account with Sogotrade but they declined my application due to the reason below (which is really sad!):
*
ya, try interactive brokers. seems popular.
i just applied, approved within 3 days.
for trading purposes since brokerage is low.
how good, i dunno yet. others can comment.

my watchlist mostly 0.5% up.

and i was just thinking...

if i trade in IB with only 10K, intraday 0.5% = $50 profit.

ok or not? laugh.gif

Erh ... 50 - water money (brokerage 0.75%) of rm75 ? still considered acceptable loss considering the price swing tonight ? sigh ... what an evening  blush.gif
*
local brokerages, cannot trade, too costly.
0.75%? my cimb incl misc n gst is now 0.59% one way x2 =1.2%.
give up!
that's why i'm going interactive brokers (IB).

QUOTE(gspirit01 @ May 5 2015, 11:38 AM)
IB brokerage is at 0.08%.  Usally not more than $5 for 10k.
*
yep, for my trades, it'll be $1 per trade, mostly. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(MNet @ May 5 2015, 08:38 AM)
time to deposit more $$ into brokerage

at cimb, i tt'ed to ib this morning at 3.6310.
think it's even higher now.
but i think tt rates are a touch higher than money changer or normal bank rates...?

usd rally may not be over:
