You know, I do agree with you about xbox one feeling more next gen. The one thing that the xbox one doesn't have is technical support.  My xboxone got bricked after the October update and after a really long chat, the only way that I can get it fixed is apparently by going across the causeway - it used to be that you could get a shop like gamer's hideout to RMA it for you but apparently MS have changed the way they deal with RMAs which involves a pickup/delivery which can only be done from a SG address.

That's why it's hard for me to recommend anyone to get an xbox one at this point of time.

What happen? after October update it seriously got bricked? tried every possible solution already?

BTW have you tried asking for Qisahn help ? they are in SG they might be able to help you with the RMA with some payment I guess?

Whoa. First time I've heard of this. Is it a widespread issue?

If you live in US then maybe Xbone overall experience will be better. But here both system can online provide decent gaming experience, don't expect to watch movie, drama, streaming music on either device here due to lack of service like netflix etc.

My advice, get the one that your friend had, if your friend play xbone, get xbone, if they had ps4, get ps4. Believe me, nowadays majority of the game's made for social fun.

p/s: don't forget that xbone is not officially launched in malaysia so warranty might be an issue. iinm we don't even have microsoft store here yet we have plenty of sony center.

Shop like Impulse can help you send the console back for warranty claim (they charge for it though). So that's more like GH problem, because last I remember, even on 360, you need to have a valid Singapore address so they can handles the service repair request.

technically xbox can do much more better plus with frequent upgrade for apps. the downside of xbox is no official support here.

GH used to do it as well for a fee. I spoke to Microsoft support and the shop I picked it up from in SG and they both confirmed that they changed the procedure for warranty claims sometime last year that makes it difficult for retailers to assist with RMAs or repairs (it does make it easier for Singaporeans though). Anyway, MS explained that their shipping co does not handle overseas/MY deliveries even if you are willing to pay for it but were happy to exchange for a new unit.

No problem for me, as I'm heading down there but still a major pain in the ass for any Malaysian looking to get an xbox one. Even your solution of relying on an online only(still?) third party mail order reseller (based in Johor?) to handle warranty claims is not particularly helpful or confidence inspiring compared to the number of sony centres we have here.

Anyway, it was a greenscreen of death that was not recoverable even after following all the troubleshooting steps. I suspect it was caused by my son turning the power on/off button during an update because he enjoys the sound that it makes.

Errrr, Impulse got a shop in JB. I'm sorry that there's no shop at your area that have a Singaporean address to help with warranty claims, but gamers still have an option. If before the Asian set launch, I would agree it's not recommended to get one because there's no way you could send the set back to US/UK/Aussie without spending a lot of money. You shouldn't compare with Sony. They have their gaming presence here, officially. Microsoft in the other hand does not. If that's the case then one would not enjoy Xbox ever, based on your recommendation, since Xbox will never be officially sold in Malaysia.

mine last time have this problem as well.
really wanted the xbox one cz Racing games of Forza 5 games , as PS4 had Driveclub, which really not my liking.

however, since xbox warranty hv to send to singapore (plus add sum for the shop if their help) whereas mine, PS4 Driveclub bundled had original 1yr + 3 months for original warranty, PLUS 1 yr + 3 months for EXTENSION.

So total of 2 year & 6 months is the best for PS4.

anything just send it to SONY center in Malaysia
