Hey guys dear beloved forummer and WP enthusiast

I am an avid user of Windows Phone OS from 2011 beginning with HTC HD7 which is my first smartphone

you all can see from the number of spam i post here in this particular WP part of the forum tongue.gif

then after a year with the HTC HD7...i sold it and then bought HTC Titan from one of the otai here in the forum
*cough*evilpuppy*cough* ...good phone and it runs the WP 7.8 very well..the 8MP shooter on the phone is also good enough for me

I use WP7.8 quite a while even after WP8 already out and microsoft seems to not care about WP7 user..
so earlier this year i made the jump from WP7.8 directly to WP8.1 on the Nokia Lumia 1520
the phone is amazing, the built is very solid, the 1080p screen is nice and the 20MP shooter is out of this world
the volume is pretty loud for the phone and the sound is very nice

but after a while...i got fedup through the number of apps that is available in the WP store..yeah sure all the important apps are there (FB,Twitter, Instagram, Wechat etc.) but the quality of this important apps is certainly not up to par with Android and IOS...i am not a heavy gamers who play game on my smartphone (I rather do it on my PC) but still..these important apps needs to be updated soon if not WP sure died i think. Some of the apps on WP is better than in android such as Youtube. Oh god i love the MyTube app on WP and it is the best youtube app i ever use, it beats android native youtube app too

nevertheless..after selling my "Microsoft" Lumia 1520..i decided to try the OnePlus One...very good phone and it runs CyanogenMod Android 4.4.4...

first impression i had with android, it felt weird. yeah..seriously the amount of room available in the home screen is many..unlike WP which had the start screen and the list of apps...Android got homescreen, and app launcher...also list of widgets...the list gos on...and with the CyanogenMod..the number of customizations is so many...i can customize everything according my preferences..

but it kind of tick me off with the number of customization since with WP, you get the standard tiles which is nice but in Android..it is hard since you had to customize everything...and the menu itself is pretty confusing for me rclxub.gif

the app selection on android is massive...i mean the play store has every app that i need for my daily use and all the important app ran smoothly on my OnePlus One..once again..i dont download heavy graphic game that may suck the battery..just casual games...even the music player is smooth and very good (unlike XBOX Music)...it also dload all the artist image automatically..notifications also hit and miss according to the connections..

but being in an open source OS has its downside...i need to install antivirus and scan all the apps i install from apk file since android is can be easily infected by viruses and malwares..and the camera on the OnePlus One and the battery sucks compared to my Lumia 1520...sometimes useless apps also spam notifications so that's a downside...and also not to forget...sometimes the phone lag..i dunno why but when browsing FB...sometimes there is lag but barely noticeable..

so yeah that's is all my rant about android and WP...i do still hope that WP advance more in term of innovations and developments...with microsoft taking over nokia..i think they can produce a better version of the OS (update?)/refine the current OS...so i hope you guys can keep supporting Windows Phone and I will still buy a Lumia Windows Phone in the future so no worry here icon_rolleyes.gif

i was using android. it was on 4.1 and was lagging. so i switched to wp thinking it will pick up. i had the same issues of not enough software. people were recommending software that wasn't available on WP.

so i switched back.....i think i'll just stick with android

I have been using quite a number of platform for the past few years (only iOS which isn't on my list as I dislike it tongue.gif) and I have to say that WP is a very easy to use & clean platform. Yes, agreed that Apps is still a long way to go hmm... actually very long already but progressing at dinosaur pace which sometimes were at developer fault as they just doesn't want to invest on WP platform. I owned Omnia 7, L920 and now L930.

Simultaneously I have a spare phone which is an Android Moto G and it's different when you use an Android phone as you know you have the power over the entire platform... well almost... you basically can do whatever you want from 3rd party launcher to your own standard customization of look and feel. At times, you will be oh shit how do I get back to basic android which is why GPE models exists... how ironic huh...

Blackberry is one of my worst phone (sorry if you were a big fans) as when I bought my Storm 2 it was good at that time, but then RIM screwed up their customer very well by introducing their BBOS 6 with no support on Storm 2 which is on BBOS 5... just barely 3 months after phone I bought?! absolutely no upgrade path from BBOS 5 to BBOS6... nvm then 6 months later they launched BBOS 7 and again no upgrade path from BBOS 6?!... not enough they throw away BBOS 7 for the new BB 10 with the same tactic?! so they just deserved where they are now... lost is space tongue.gif

just to share my 2 cents...

TS: If you wanted things less complicated on android you shoulda bought Nexus 5, customize nothing and only download from playstore. One of the features of OPO is heavy customization.
Agree with you on Lumia. Best cam and screen, everything else sucks.
My Z ultra died and I'm now using my wife's old L920. Miss my ultra everyday.

true that..went i change something..i have to dig deep to find the settings back..i thin (for me, at least) that android only excel in having apps..all other functions already up to par with WP already

I have 2 phones, a Lumia 830 and OPPO 5 Mini. The main one is Lumia. I agree that Android has more apps like trading app (Maybank trading) which force me to use an Android phone for that.
I really like WP live tiles so I don't need to open the apps, just glance it. WP also integrates with my Windows 8 desktop and Windows 8 tablet. For example the MSN News and Health Apps. Some apps in WP 8 also can be synch with their Windows 8. I like when you buy an app at Windows Phone Store, you can install the same app on Windows 8 devices.
One more thing that Windows Phone 8 excels is the ability to install apps on SD card. I do not recall my Oppo can do that. I have run out of space in my Oppo so I just use it to check my stock occasionally.

On the contrary I moved from G Nexus to L1520.
Never looked back. I don't mind the apps - yes you're right about polish of the app on WP8.1, but for me, as long it works I don't really care about aesthetic feel.

New apps like GSC and Micoach is best version for WP8.1 compared to iOS and Android.

WP do not need heavy customization..just simple customization bcos the UI is already beautiful compared to android

and the MyTube app on WP is the best youtube app ever..better than the official Youtube app on android smile.gif

A little history of me and WP.

1. Love the ZUNE UI, madly in love, lust for it.
2. Finally got a second hand HD7, love the kickstand, hate the battery life, camera suck.
3. Sold the HD7, got a Lumia 900, love the HERE navigation, the lens, the photos, the design, hate the gloss body.
4. They announce WP8 with new kernel, the end of Windows Phone 7, but the community say "hope for the good".
5. Exchange Lumia 900 with a hTC One X, love the full featured apps, decent camera, flash custom rom, battery life suck because Tegra chip and later mobo corrupted, SC & QC sucked. RIP hTC One X
6. Lust for Modern UI is back, bought the Lumia 920, happy with the lens and HERE suite again but not so for the official apps support.
7. WP8.1 came-in, Nokia applied aggressive compression on the photos, hated it.
8. Never ending waiting game for apps support and arrival of official updates.
9. Bought an Oppo Find 7a later, worst OS but love the hardware implementation and hope for the best in future.
10. Sold the Find 7A.
11. Got a hTC One M8 from Maxis.
12. I'm a happy user.
13. Still keeping Lumia 920 for low light situations.

Now,
14. Bloat wares like the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 or S5 is pretty good for users who use those to features.
15. Believe in iPhone takes better photos, well balanced.

I think in time to come HERE apps will be improved on Android platform since the spin off of this Nokia arm is left out from Microsoft purchased of Nokia as a whole, HERE apps does not need to commit to WP solely.. We have seen Samsung adopted HERE apps on their S5 and Note 4 as well as to the extend of Gear S (I love the Gear S as I am on Gear Fit now) for map technology, so the main concern for us WP platform is that will HERE apps still be updated and enhanced further?! doh.gif

Just a thought... hahaha...

Jump from Nokia N8 and then to Lumia 920. Enjoy the camera and UI. At first, the app does not bother me due to not coming from a platform with apps. Then sorta get sien with phone due to lack of game/app, then decide to test out Xiaomi. UI might not be as good as WP8's, but man it is very functional and full of useful stuffs like 'actually-function-icon/widgets'. The app store totally pwn WP too, now I can have all the local apps I need.

So I will be sticking with Android. Xperia Z3C will probably be my next phone
