So, news just hit, Oceanic servers will be transferred to Australia next week.
Free server transfers to Australia next week as well.

All oceanic servers to be ported over as is.

Australian and New Zealand players are obviously going to enjoy way better ping,
but how does this affect SEA players? From trying to play League of Legends and
Dota 2 on AU servers I notice the ping is even worse than America, 200~ping to US
350~ ping to Australia, probably due to the way its routed, will proxies help?

If not how will people handle an increase in ping? Will SEA players have to play
on US servers instead?

Q: Where will the servers be physically located?
A: The game servers will be hosted within an Australian data centre, ensuring Australian and New Zealand players receive the best possible latency.

Q: Will I still be able to play with my friends who are on U.S. servers?
A: Yes! Because the new Australian World of Warcraft game servers will continue to communicate with the existing North American hardware, players will still be able to play with friends on U.S game servers, just as they can today. They’ll still be able to use their Battle.net friends list to easily group up and chat, regardless of where they are playing.

Our connection to australia is not really optimized. I played diablo3 on aussie server and the ping fluctuates alot between 150-350ms. Whereas connection to US is a stable 200-220ms, it feels alot more consistent and smoother on the US server.

I'm trying WoW taiwan now and ping is between 60-150ms.

As rockets has mentioned, it's the connection/routing to Australia that plays an important part on whether we can get better latency results with WoW. Of course, those playing in Australia will get the biggest benefits in terms of the latency.

For those interested, here is a quick result capture of speedtest results to Australian servers. Although it may not be 100% accurate, it should give an idea of the latency we could potentially get. I have no idea of the location of the servers so I just tried some of the potential cities.

My connection info:
ISP: Time Broadband 8Mbps
WoW Server: Tichondrius (US)
In-game latency: 187 - 195 ms

Once we have an idea of the physical location of the WoW data centres and (possibly) the ISP of those data centres, we may be able to see if we can get better results.

Try do a tracerout between these two: 103.4.115.248(D3 AUS) and 12.129.209.68(WoW Bloodlust).

There is a difference I notice, better ping for aussie pvper means they got lower latency to pvp with us.

US REAlm and frostmourne only applicable for US account / players only IINM

oceanic players wont effect i think??

and u NEED to pay first then only blizzard will REFUND it back to you within 2 weeks transfer time.

ONLY SERVER TRANSFER applicable, racial changes, faction change and name change u have to pay it yourself

this is to my understanding at least..

btw streamyx 1mbps here at kota bharu ping to gundrak oceanic (AUS server)
220ms , ping zapper just now 160ms then naik 280ms.. bengong tol

well f***. Thts so sad when you have to buy a tunneler just to play a game. On another note, Blizzard answered my ticket and offered to transfer all my toons out of Oceanic to a US based server for free.

Never played with tunneling since I got Maxis HOME 10mbps.

Before migration: 190-250
After migration: 150-180

It's not constant, sometimes it goes to the usual 209ish probably because it's BG and connected to LA anyways.

But if it's in open world, 150ms biggrin.gif

I wonder if anyone on maxis can post their traceroute? It's mind boggling for me how on the 7th hop the latency is 40ish but the next hop it hike up to 250ish even though the ip address of the 7th and the 8th are probably the same area.

You'll be pitted against north americans too and when that happens, you'll be connected to North American realms and your ping will be like before inside arenas, so, to be honest not much has changed.

yup. seems like maxis is doing good with their routing to aus since my friend are also getting ~150ms without tunneling.

us, unifi user suffer from this server relocation. it was fine though, until last night when the latency shoot up to 400-500ms and now constant ~250ms

this is just like TBC all over again where we need to use tunneling service to play WoW or else it's unplayable

well the good news about the relocation is that eventhough we have to use tunnel we can now finally get sub 150ms in WoW which was not even possible before laugh.gif

Oceania servers are now so slow. Am thinking to try out a ping helper service to see if it helps. Is pingzapper good enough for this? This is the cheapest service I have found so far.

U can use the trial to see if the ping suits you, everyone get different ping, ISP, location is the factor. But most of the people i heard, Battleping is way better.

Btw, battleping doesn't dc me every 20min even in trial thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Have you updated your addons?
You can check to see if it's due to your addons by unchecking them first.

My addons are all up to date. Not loading them seems to do nothing to the ping time.

Hi, first time posting.

I'm on Maxis 10, and playing on Barthilas but am getting 260ms. I've tried Battle Ping with Malaysia 2 server on trial, also getting 260ms sad.gif

Would appreciate it if you guys have any suggestions? Thank you! smile.gif

I am also on maxis 10. Latency when spike is totally unplayable for serious raid content, especially progression. Normal 260ms, might still be able to play, though not optimum, but at times it just shot up to 600 or 700ms, and my screen still has wow, just that the character stop responding in my screen. everyone seems to stop moving, where in actual fact they are moving. I ran pathping and found there are a few path to have 100 % packet loss. Contacted maxis, their technical team unable to resolve, escalated this problem to tier 2. Still waiting for resolution. Advise others with maxis to call up and highlight to them the issue as well so action can be taken. Or u can just suffer without doing anything.

Frostmourne, my server.

Yeah can't seem to play it afterwards. I hope they can compensate a 1 month subscription once in a while for that haha!
