so sad that my ST50 had to go, panasonic will be replacing me with LEDTV instead since they already quit plasma business. Technician mentioned it will be AS700 replacement. I freaking love this plasma cry.gif

on the other hand, the technician opened the back panel and i had the chance to snap some pics.
All caps used are Rubycon thumbup.gif

really out of market liao sweat.gif thats mean warranty also wont get it back
*
yes, seems like my route is back to LEDTV after all haiz. There is not even a choice given to pick other plasma model since they already out of business.
If panel problem most likely we're out of luck. My panel was imported all the way from japan. I think my 1st panel replacement is one of the last batch, manufactured August 2013.
If it's board problem still can be replaced.

Wow, this is really sad.
I thought they would have the spares for 5 years.
Maybe now they can use your parts as spares. tongue.gif
*
haha the panel definitely not be able to use for spares anymore.

So sad that plasma tech is going to an end soon. Samsung is not producing high end plasma anymore, i bet they will be quitting too in a year or two.

So, when you get your replacement tv, do you need to buy extended warranty or continue from your plasma tv?
*
sadly continue from where i left off from my plasma. Not yet 2years old, still got 0.5 + 3years extended to go.

Plus point is you don't have to fork out money for the extended warranty.
Just assumed that you had the LED tv for 1year +.
BTW, have you received the new tv?
*
Not yet, technician came and snap some pics to report back to HQ. He mentioned panasonic will call me if the decision is to replace with other model. He said i have the option to top up money on higher end/bigger screen models as well.

If you guys remember my story on v4 thread the technician mentioned will replace my 50ST50 with LEDTV AS700 but somehow Panasonic managed to find panel replacement. This is my 2nd time panel replacement.

Original unit 1st panel batch dated August 2012
2nd panel batch August 2013
3rd replacement batch Dec 2013

My guess probably this is last and final batch.

What i'm happy about - Yay still plasma not LEDTV replacement!
What i'm worried about - Doubtful if the vertical line issue will appear again sad.gif Official warranty ending May2015, after that is insurance extended warranty.

Yesterday pana technician came over to my house and took my plasma st50 which is still under warranty coz got vertical line problem. The technician said it will take 1 week for repairing.

Since panasonic Plasma already EOL, do they replace my plasma with other model if they cannot repair my plasma?
*
If no more stock for the panel, Pana will replace with equivalent size and value of your plasma with LEDTV (with option to topup for better model). Plasma panel replacement is fast, 1.5hour done at my home.

For my case i got a Dec2013 batch panel for my last panel replacement.

Hi Mea Culpa, I agreed with you thought. As I'm facing the same issue. My unit has the vertical line problem on last year September and repaired under the warranty. But recently same ST60 unit encountered same vertical line problem. Very unlucky, my warranty just expired. So can't do anything now, just leave it like that.
*
Mine from 1 line grew into 50++ lines in just few months. Just a heads up. Mine suffered twice. Currently on 3rd panel. If like what Mea Culpa mentioned, if they didn't do voltage callibration, means my 3rd panel will end up the same fate again as well sad.gif

why you love plasma tv so much ?
*
It's individual preference. For me it's because of
-color reproduction
-deep blacks
-good upscaling on lower resolution (astro SD looks ugly on LCD)
-no ghosting (for fast action gaming or footballs)

it has it's own cons as well but it doesn't bother me much
-possible screen burn (not suitable for displaying static images like desktop, astro logos)
-runs hot
-higher power consumption
-less sharp than lcd counterpart
-obsolete (oled replaces plasma technology)

but , plasma cant display up to full hd , right ? btw , led's colour reproduction not good ? It's better than lcd, right ?

Led and lcd usually do not last long. I have had 1 lcd and 1 led spoiled in the past 5 yrs.
*
Usually the higher end plasmas are full hd, the cheaper ones are usually hd.
LCDtv and LEDtv basically are using the same display technology (liquid crystals rotation to display color hues). LCD itself does not produce the lights. It's done by a backlight. The backlight of LEDtv of using LED hence the name LEDtv. LCDtv in the other hand uses CFL. Plasma and oled emits it's own light for every pixel.

Nowadays most of the TVs doesn't last long. If it does last that long, then manufacturers couldn't earn already tongue.gif.
I still have 20yrs old Sony trinitron tv that is still kicking till now. This tv is damn reliable thumbup.gif

my tv gone vertical line. no choice but bear with it.
usage below 3k hour
*
I changed 2 panels in 1st year of ownership doh.gif
From 1 vertical line then become 2 then grew until hundreds.
Low usage also, that time it was less than 800hours.

Now 3yrs already, so far so good. I still like my ST50 very much, especially when watching movies.

Anyone still using the legendary panasonic plasma 50ST50? I am using one and dissapointed with the reliability. Panel changed twice due to vertical line across the screen. 1st issue happened after 1.5years and replaced with new panel from japan and 6months later happened again. After 3years i thought it's reliable again but now reappear again. Total hours in this 5years only 2200 hours.

50st50 user here.
5 years still fine but my total hours is alot lot less than yours.
*
How many hours on yours?
I thought mine already low enough. Daily only average 1hour.
It seems like this model has common problem with vertical line issue, my colleague also has lines after 2years of usage.
I don't think got any LED tv can match this, I liked it alot compared to other LEDtv that i see recently within rm3k range. Only tech that is better is OLED TV which is overly expensive.

My tv might be a lemon then sad.gif
I believe the board is the one had the defect yet the technician keep replacing the panel only.

I am also a user of this tv.
I noticed the vertical line on the right side of the screen about 2 years ago. The line comes and go (not permanent).
Doesn't bother me much.

Some sifus here already migrated to LED tv from Plasma.
Maybe it is time to let go.
*
It's weird that mine has black vertical line on a blue background. Blue line on a red background. Green line on a yellow background.

From the experience of my 1st incident, it appears as single line, then eventually growing to 2 and more. My 1st warranty claim has more than 15 lines, which started from 1.

My tv still has extended warranty, already engaged with tech to check. Let's see whether it can be fixed or give me a replacement.

Lucky that you have extended warranty.
Do let us know how Panasonic tackle your tv problem.
I wonder whether they still have spares for this tv.
*
Update on my warranty status. Panasonic tech said they no longer have stock for panel replacement. So insurance company is asking me to choose any TV for replacement
So, goodbye to my 50ST50 bye.gif
