well youre comparing two different monitors in terms of usage and specs
U2713HM
- if you do some work that requires critical colour accuracy, or just plain prefer better color reproduction, this is to go
- dont care abt slower response time compared to TN panel (>8ms)
- prefers Dell after sales service
- great stand features, durable monitor
- IPS suffers from the well known IPS glow, and Dell U series monitor sometimes suffer from backlight bleed issue
as for the ASUS PG278Q,
- 120Hz, GSync, 1ms response time, purely gaming oriented monitor
- lack of extra connectors (1 DP 1.2 only)
- slim bezel, sturdy stand
- TN panel have a mediocre colour accuracy if compared to IPS
personally, i wouldnt go for TN panel cause i prefer IPS nor go for gaming monitors for the gimmicky tag. but GSync is good, i can vouch for it. checked out APES's ASUS GSync monitor during their display couple of months back. the bulk of the premium is purely on GSync module too btw, otherwise the ASUS wont be as pricey
my take : go for ASUS GSync if youre looking to game mostly, and have a Nvidia GTX650 Ti Boost and above to use GSync. Otherwise, the all rounder one would be the U2713
I agree with everything you say and its logical for me to go with dell U2713HM then the Asus PG278Q, but I just need alil bit more info as i havent seen that asus monitor on display before. Alot of praises from the internet but the TN panel is kinda bothering me..

Some background
Well i sold my spare u2713hm n u2913wm
N now both gaming rig is using asus swift. My work rig is using lg 34um95. Planning to change this to Dell u3415wm curved.
that particular dell u27 is really so so in color reproduction n its a ah-ips. Gaming actually the more expensive u2713h is better on input lag n then some.
The swift is only good for gaming, moderate desktop use. I wouldnt recommend buying this if ure intending for some heavy long staring at the monitor work. It gives me a headache everytime. The u2713hm lacks many features that the u2713h has but odd reason the u2913wm has it.
Gaming on swift bliss bro. No tearing. Clearer textures during movement. Its like wtf u have been gaming before this. Best way to describe this is like buying ssd.
Gaming at 1440p with gsync. As u know dual gpu is going to be needed n 2xgtx970/980 is the best bet with the former actually better interms of value as long the game supports sli. Alot of games nowadays has a fps cap. So if sli gtx980 is working technically overkill but when the games doesnt support sli.. That single gtx980 is whats needed.
So hope this helps.
Thanks for sharing your experience bro.
I previously own a u2913wm too before getting my current monitor and actually i like the 21:9 as i can see alot more key frame when using adobe flash. Gaming on it is quite unique too cos the long display make you more immerse into the game, kinda miss that feeling

The only thing i hate about that monitor is the 1080p height, a lil bit too small for my liking. Wish it was bigger then that. So... if your lg 34um95 of yours is on sale real soon..do let me know, might get that instead hehe
Regarding the Asus PG278Q, how is the color reproduction? is it far from Ah-IPS panel or just a lil bit?

Kindly take note GSync also requires Nvidia cards. You are out of luck if you running AMD.
For AMD cards, you have to wait for freesync.
yup, already know about that but thanks for reminding me

Go for ROG swift if you really into gaming and currently have nvidia supported cards. If you really fancy on variable refresh rate (VRR), wait for AMD offerings for freesync. The demo unit should be available to reviewer end of this year. Probably Q1 you can see the retail.
But i doubt it works the same like G-sync.
Alot of great games are coming at the end of this years, dont know if i could wait that long to see what AMD can offer

haha
