QUOTE(Are Ebooks Good Or Bad For Learning? @ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/14/e..._n_5983114.html )
Since the advent of ebooks, a debate has raged as to whether the traditional, physical book or the digital copy leads to better learning for children.

In a HuffPost Live conversation Monday, a roundtable panel agreed both formats have advantages, but there is one key to making either successful: interaction.

"In many cases, with the traditional book, you go beyond the covers of the book to discuss the story," Kathy Hirsh-Pasek, a psychology professor at Temple University, told host Nancy Redd. "In 'Curious George,' you might say something like, 'Do you remember the last time that we were at a zoo?' There seemed to be something in that interaction with parents and children that was very different than with the digital book versus the traditional book."

Heather Kirkorian, who helps run a cognitive development lab at the University of Wisconsin, said she has had similar experiences, but has seen positive results with ebooks. They just have to be used correctly.

We do find toddlers learn more from the screen when they're interacting in a very specific way, not just any way," Kirkorian said. "Really focusing on the device and what the device can afford is not as productive of a conversation as 'How can we use this tool?' This tool is in our lives, in kids' hands, how can we use that tool and create media content that's actually beneficial if possible and more importantly to scaffold the kinds of interactions Kathy just described."

I think as long as you are reading, it doesn't matter what format the book is in.

Personally I prefer physical copy more than digital version because my eyes don't like to stare at the screen for a long period. And physical copy is the best ideal for collection. :]

I like a physical copy for academic material because I always highlight and scribble on the book. Digital format is abit troublesome when it comes to scribbling your points. But for casual reading, digital copies are fine by me. smile.gif

when i was in uni, i was a hardcore physical book fan (because it's relatively easy to go to kinokuniya)

now after moving back to kuching, the bookshops just aren't as good as Kino... very small selection (imma Warhammer 40k fan) so I just bought them off Black Library nowadays.

slowly moving towards e-books i'd say.

I dont mind physical books. I love to hold them but due to space and the hate for the aged book smell makes me go digital most of the time.

I used to prefer physical books over ebooks, but now it depends on what im reading and where. Ebooks are good for when travelling or when Im at the cafe and suddenly feels like reading.

You remind me of a friend of mine who's really into shares, CPO and futures...not to say that's bad...but we all see information differently in life since all our destination are different.

Regardless, nice share.
