I think there are always in demand. every year government also will allocate budget in construction work (those public work such as expressway, infrastructure such as water transfer tunnel, MRT and etc) beside that private project always quite plenty even now around the busiest area like KLCC area, still not fully develop yet. see how many foreign worker out there in klcc area every day?

civil and mechanical both is not dying. fresh graduate after 1 year can jump ship and have 1k increment easily. eg. 3k to 4k. true story. not sure how much difference but seems like almost the same la for both civil and mechanical. of course civil have their own new technology also. just that not all people like to adopt due to cost issue. pre-stress structure, pre-fabricated structure, variant of system formwork, and etc. same goes to mechanical & electrical have their own advance technology.
