I've been using greenify for a long time.
i dont really know whether it is helping me save battery or causing me more trouble.
since opening a hibernated app has a tiny delay. not noticeable in most app, but very obvious for facebook.
opening a hibernated FB and you have to wait it load from scratch and stuck at the splash screen for 1-2 seconds.

below is battery info of 2 days. both approximate in standby for 7 hours. in the same spot on my table connected to the same wifi.

First one, with greenify.
almost all user apps&games and many unused system apps were greenify. only messaging apps like viber whatsapp hangouts, and google search were left untouched.

second one, with greenify uninstalled.
i left google+, chrome, and FB running in the background (open the app and press home button)
wakelock duration is almost twice compared with with greenify, FB being the biggest culprit

but strangely...the battery drain is the same, both left with 97%. , both case also lose 3% over a period of 7 hours.
greenify doesn't do much to help save battery.
and in the case of FB, it causes unnecessary delay for app opening.

do you still think it's worth using greenify?

IMO the first few % is not accurate, sometime even after some usage the % still not dropped. maybe should try more hours until the % drop till 90% or less.

Can greenify freezes chrome and google services. Those seems to be running in background all the time. Does this consume battery?

chrome i think no need to greenify. i check with wakelock, it doesn't wakes up the system or prevent from deep sleep.
but google search in other hands really need to be greenify, it wakes the system way too much time.

I only sleep 7 hours a day. That only enough to make it drop 3%.
U wan me to drain it in standby to 90% then I need to leave it idle 21 hours. Impossible la. I need to use my phone.

Google now won't work if u greenify search. So I leave it on.

Otherwise the data from 100% drop few % is not accurate. My G Pro 2 from 100% directly use for 20 minutes SOT still show 100%.

Only if you always use Google Now voice function, otherwise no point to have it keep running and every minute it'll wake up the device.

Exactly, I know what Greenify does. I can only say that one of the reason why I sometimes prefer killing tasks completely is to free up RAM. I'm too used to the built in cleaner of the MIUI. Now that I've gone to AOSP, I have yet to give up this idea of killing the tasks completely to free up RAM.

But then again, I have yet to discover if an app goes into hibernation will it take up the RAM usage as well?  hmm.gif

No point to always killing app, android system is designed to load app that you frequently use as stand by so killing it means it'll load the app over and over again making your battery worse.

When greenify put an app into hibernation it basically just kill the app when going into deep sleep. It will also free up the ram. This is why I didn't put Chrome in greenify list, otherwise it will load again all the many tabs.

Here are my findings.

Apps that are kept in ram do cause significant increase in wake lock
wake lock with greenify is 2%,
without greenify (5-14% depending on a number of background app kept)

Greenify works by significantly reduces wakelocks. But the results is not that jaw dropping. If u just clear your apps and go to sleep, the results will be the same. Greenify helps by auto force stop your background apps when it's not in use during idle. Just like iOS let unused app freeze and stop wasting resources.

Extra wake lock seems bad, and it does impact battery life, but the impact is very minimal. I done 3 observation.
A 2% wake lock causes 3% battery lost over a 6 hour 45 mins period
A 5% wake lock causes 3% battery lost over a 6 hour 45 mins period
A 14% wake lock causes 5% battery lost over a 6 hour 10 mins period.

I'm giving this issue a rest. Lost interest in further investigating.
In the mean time I'll continue using greenify to freeze fb. It's the highest wake lock contributor.

due to your phone battery capacity is higher so then impact of wakelock is not that obvious. if phone with smaller capacity will see more impact from the wakelock.

Google Search seems only trigger wakelock every 10 minutes. did you use xposed+unBounce?

Are you Google now user?
Greenify Google search Google now reminder will still work?
*
I've try to put a reminder based on time on Google Now, then phone goes to deep sleep and greenify done it's job putting Google Search to hibernate, when the time reach the reminder notification never come out. Even after unlock screen and using the phone, still no reminder. Until I launch Google Now does the reminder appear.

I'm using Calendar (which is not greenified) for reminder, no delay in notification. But since you using G.Now without location reporting, I guess the hit on battery is not that much.
