IT in non-IT company means one leg kick handling everything about IT and with a power cord including programming, database management, back up, troubleshooting, printer jam, projector setting up, loud speaker, camera, etc...

You stay long enough they promote you to a IT manager, but you have to work like no tomorrow before that. After promotion even need to work extra no tomorrow.

I cannot see my daylight in this job.

Most of non-IT companies will choose to outsource their IT functions. Just hire a smalll group to resolve issue. Otherwises, the IT subcontractor will place their staffs at that non-IT company.

What're you trying to say? Mesiniaga outsources the IT function or offer IT solutions by placing their staffs at their client?

I am pretty sure about that, a little extra bonus is you might get a change to learn how to troubleshoot a photocopier.

For those lucky guys company will consider hire more guys, but for MOST companies all they think about save cost, use whatever available, and get it done no matter how you do it!

Not enough people? Hire more. Not enough resource? Buy more. This is usually not the case.

Also, they expect you to know everything. So dont expect anyone sitting there to teach you. Just remember that google is your best friend.

For a company that dont even has internet access... good luck.

wow good one but you are probably in the IT division of the oil/gas company right?

I guess there are many roles you can be successful in a non-IT company as IT is essential to nearly all companies. Getting a role in the IT division of the finance or investment etc if the company is big will be great my cousin brother personally is with Goldmac Sachs but he does level 3 I think supporting mainframe servers etc and because he is based in the head office he gets the lavish work environment biggrin.gif biggrin.gif .

P.s He is based in sydney though tongue.gif tongue.gif
