Hi, I want to make some sort of a survey here.

If I were to start a direct anime/manga downloading service for RM10 per month(payable via egold and maybank2u) , maybe 40(types not episodes) types of animes (depends on popular choices) and hosting the latest 4 episodes for each of the anime/manga, WILL ANYONE BE INTERESTED TO JOIN AND PAY? (THeoretically should be 40X4 X 180mb per anime = roughly 30gb)

This service is direct download and will enable users who have difficulty using bittorrent or other filesharing servers to download animes due to various reasons to download normally. The server speed is 100mbps, so theoretically it should be no problem handling 80-90 1mbps streamyx users downloading at full speed (~110kbps) at the same time. I have tried it for 1 year among 11 friends and all managed to reach full speed. The servers are located overseas either france, us or germany, don't worry about latency, I have made sure it is within acceptable range to enable a full speed download.

REMEMBER this is a survey, don't flame me for no apparent reasons. As far as space, server capacity, bandwidth etc I have taken it into account, so if you have constructive suggestions please post but don't take me as a newbie, I have been in hosting business since 2001 and I can manage linux servers just fine.

sorry mods if I posted at the wrong place.

Is this legal from a legal perspective? Taken into account the various copyrights, laws, etc?

There are quite a number of anime direct downloading websites running around for free, so honestly saying i won't be interested in it. Besides it, is it legal?

That is how I "utilize" my sch's 1MBps direct line. tongue.gif

for the thread starter....

1) No distribution of licensed materials within the forum (e.g. offering of burning services).
2) No direct download links to licensed material (direct/torrent/etc.).
something along those two lines

personally, i won't go for it as i'm fine with bt and irc downloading.
i keep myself up to date with the latest animes, which in this case most of the unlicensed 1, so it's not really a good alternative to pay for tat...
newcomers might welcome the service, but then again with the typical malaysian attitude "need to pay for it?dun want to use it then" u might find it hard to get supporters

Hmmm, this kind of business can only fool the noobs but will be flamed vigorously by senior users.

Oh btw, by senior users I mean, some experts in 4chan, for example, tend to destroy websites like this.

the truth is I wont mine as I being paying us$5 every month at narutocentral. just to tired download using BT or other peer sharing program. no seeder no files transfer.

Not to say I'm a noobs on downloading using peer system. I started using napters and evolve to another. the best and faster download is still direct download from ftp. (basicly I'm impatient man)

This might work if you were offering licenced anime, but then there's the problem of copyright/licence issues with US (especially if you host the servers in the US), etc, even if we're not in the US (honestly, I don't see how can US copyright can affect malaysia, but thats an issue for another thread, and don't look like you're hosting the servers in malaysia anyway).

If its unlicenced anime, then it wouldn't really work, cause there are many free ways to get unlicenced anime. Unless you're offering rare and obscure unlicenced anime, it'd probably not work, cause popular anime is easily available from friends, bootlegs, irc or bt (which people will be willing to learn/use as long as it gets them what they want).

Then theres the issue of ethics of using other's fansubs and charging for them. Its one thing to run on donations, but another to charge people monthly, even if RM5-10 ain't much in the grand scheme of the world.

The problem is not all people can use BT or IRC. MY friend in Petronas can't even use MSN (I taught him to use proxy, now he can) how to use BT. Throught the response it seems malaysians are quite cheapskate, preferring free all the time, I was just modelling the idea of downloadanime.org(which has tons of subscribers) that charges $5 for downloads a month. And AFAIK, the free services limit your downloads, whereas I am offering you to download the 160 episodes of animes at a go.

People who can't use IRC or BT are few and far between, and hardly use the internet. Those such people (ie. your friend at Petronas), how do you intend to reach them (let them know about your site) and get them to sign up?

The average streamyx user gets 1mbps max, so they wouldn't take 160 episodes of anime at a go, instead, they'd probably dl 2-4 eps at a time so that they won't have to wait that long. You're inflating and exaggerating numbers. Also, limits are almost necessary, or do you intend to allow one person to signup, and let them share the account?

This might seem harsh, but you're asking for an opinion on a forum where most know how to download, even if they choose not to. Thus, the majority of replies are obvious, and you're almost setting yourself up for this.

and also, i feel that those sites tat offer paid download for fansubs are ripping out the fansubs works....though they say the money are for server fees, but who are we to know how they use the money?
fansubs offer their stuffs for free, not for some1 to host them and then charge for downloading....
