It's the jump from the 7xx to 8xx/9xx. The prices went crazy for no apparent good reason apart from "Let's see how much these suckers are willing to pay". It's industry-wide for laptops, so it's probably nVidia jacking up prices since AMD's so far behind in notebook graphics right now.  What that means is that you will see similar price jumps of about RM 1k no matter what the brand.

I agree with you on the Alienware. Once my laptop broke on Thursday, i gave them a call and the next day ,Friday, they came and changed the whole motherboard no question asked. Just the initial problem which was unable to start with beeping sound at the beginning. They actually replaced it with a refurbished motherboard

I hope MSI will be like this in the near future. They are still new in Malaysia and still establishing themselves. Other than the service, I would stick to MSI. 2 weeks is too long. Sony takes 2-4 weeks for their laptop repairs too. This year Sony stops their laptop business.

Just to update to the "resolution" of this customer service nightmare I had a long time ago in the last thread.

1.I brought in my unit as promised and it was "fixed".

2.Checked the speakers and was happy.

3.Flew back to Penang.

4. Over the weekend I decided to use my headphones again after enjoying the speakers for a few days. I only use headphones recently because the speakers sound bad.

5. Headphones and mic jack doesn't work anymore.

6. Complain the the center messed up my laptop audio/mic jacks and forced to send in laptop again for 1 week.

7. I requested for the service report to state that the latest report is made because they did a bad job on the first report and caused this issue. They tried to make it look like the laptop so ngam ngam have 2 problems in 2 weeks in the 2nd service report. Genius.

8. Also requested they find who is responsible and ask to issue an apology. -- Nobody wants to take any blame.

9. Waiting for response now --> I think they will just ignore.
Quite fed up of this nonsense already.
They even have to force me to personally ask for an apology when it is obviously their fault. First time I heard of this.Don't even want to say "sorry lah".

Probably will need to ask around if Asus or Lenovo has better CS before buying new laptop when the next GPU refresh comes out.

Hello there, just to confirm it, for GT72 (i believe it's the same for other models) the warranty sticker is attached to one of the screw hole at the back cover, so if I plan to clean the fan or doing any upgrade, the warranty will be voided?

Yup, did everything. Uninstall driver,re-install driver.Connect my headset and tried my own mike.
When you plug anything into the jack the speakers never turn off. Nothing is detected.

Their report also says that the cause something was loose inside my laptop but never mentioned how come something like that can get loose when it was working perfectly until I got it back from the center.

I asked them to check if it was their mistake but they just ignore so I got really mad.

... Just called KJ service center and received a really dissatisfying answer. I want to buy an mSata SSD for my brother as a present, but one stupid sticker over a screw prevents me from installing myself (which I've already done for my own other-brand laptop).

Service center quote me at RM140 for installation labour charges! Even my car workshop also don't charge so high for 2-3 hours of work, this 5 minute task want to charge RM140.

Anyone knows how to self-install without voiding warranty?

just wondering, does every1 here updated ur com to win8.1? the window have been prompting me to update my GS70 to win8.1 for sometime... usually i will skip it with option update later... but this few days it dun have option of later but to start update in few hours... how is the win8.1 now? stable?

I received the "official explanation" from the service center after getting MSI malaysia to force the service center to explain. ( customer service and msi are 2 different companies ).

First off, I'm happy MSI malaysia cared enough to push for an explanation and also offer their apologies for the issues.
Not very happy about the explanation from the service center because it's bull. They still did not admit anything.

I don't really care what the service center say anymore now.

Test everything before you take back your laptop. Don't only test the thing you ask them to fix.

Report to MSI directly if you suspect they caused other issues after "repairing" your laptop with some reasons.
So far, MSI laptaps = quite ok.
msia customer service - maybe good maybe bad. The Penang branch guys are quite good and friendly. KJ branch, not so good.

BIOS update is quite dangerous for people not familiar with computers. I wouldn't recommend it if its not necessary. Bios changes your basic software to run everything in your computer. Even without windows, your computer will run on BIOS. Normally if BIOS installation goes wrong, you cant even on the computer.

Thats why its recommended to backup your whole hard disc before updating BIOS.
