The Nvidia 950M series and above(Maxwell) is pretty impressive. I'm looking forward to Nvidia Pascal, the estimated boost at the same wattage is 50% (they claim 100% but that's for some CUDA-specific stuff).
*
Cool. Which model comes with CUDA?

Kudos! But just curious, why the Titan? Do you travel a lot?
*
50% work and 50% play. I'm doing some on field map stitching projects via photos from drones the specs and somewhat portability of Titan serves my purpose. And I am a gamer too so it'll serve during free time too.

It appears all the Maxwell cards support CUDA and lots of older cards too:
http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology.../supported-gpus

Realistically however the CUDA applications that one would commonly use is Blender 3D Cycles and Daz3D IRay - 3D rendering with GPU CUDA is very much accelerated nowadays.

The super-awesome increase in CUDA performance for Pascal appears to be CUDA applications that revolve around "deep learning" and "artificial intelligence" stuff.

Nonetheless for games and CUDA 3D rendering I hope, no, expect, Pascal to deliver at least 25%-50% improvement at same wattage - at least for those GPUs which have HBM (high bandwidth memory 3D memory thingy) attached because not only is that using Pascal GPU architecture but will have access to this super-fast GPU memory, way beyond GDDR5 speeds.
*
i wonder how does does HBM fare in photo stitching large number of photos into maps.

Good question. I believe CUDA approaches with 8GB to 16GB or even 32GB of HBM memory will address those issues. Besides the speed of HBM the amount of VRAM they're planning to ship per GPU in Pascal then (I believe) Volta... looks like GPUs could have more RAM than CPUs.

I believe Nvidia is getting a massive amount of government, military, security-industrial and artificial intelligence contracts because they've cracked GPGPU implementations and so these customers that far outstrip the gaming industry - it looks like Nvidia can even go up against Intel now, and are doing so.

2015-2025 we're moving into a GPU+VRAM vs CPU+DRAM hybrid-competitive world.

Indeed if you look at photo stitching massive images a 8 x Titan "Y" Pascal with 16GB HBM VRAM each vs 64 Xeon Cores with 16GB DRAM each - certain types of computing appears to be very suited to GPU compute, and it appears that in many crucial large-data-set applications GPU compute is surpassing x86/64 CPU compute.
Hi, if I am not mistaken those background apps should not be taking a lot of memory. With 8GB of RAM you shouldn't be getting low-memory warnings.

I think if you set the swap (Virtual Memory) to 16GB on your primary (C:) drive you should ~not~ get those warnings any more.

This is because for example when you are running GTA V or Dying Light Windows will then allocate the "live" (hardware) RAM for the game then other processes/ apps/ etc. memory needs will go to the swap file on the hard disk (Virtual Memory).
*
on the side note, cant wait for Dx12 and Vulcan too. to some degree it'll help GPU intensive calculations.

Decided to downgrade to Windows 8.1. Agisoft Photoscan Pro aint working with Windows 10. It's a shame though.

Yeah Vulcan is a little way off but DX12 will help a lot. The issue is PC game versions are still "second class" to console releases. Unlike things like Star Citizen which is PC-first, that's where we will see the best stuff for PC.
I was having problems with Nvidia Optimus on Windows 10 but the latest Intel and Nvidia drivers are alright with Windows 10. Gaming and other stuff has been smooth. Photoshop was crashing recently but Nvidia released a driver fix. Haven't experienced any issues with individual software except for Daz 3D, VLC (some UI issues) and one or two other things.
*
Most common apps works well with Window 10. However work related softwares such as Photoscan, Flight planner, etc might not. Hence decided to downgrade.

Everything was cool prior MSI goes mainstream about 10 years ago. When the company grow big, production also increase. There's a very small percentage of faulty products for most production process. Unfortunately, the higher production numbers, the more likely faulty items get out due to the faulty percentage margin

At first I want to say you can't upgrade laptop's GPU and CPU but apparently, you can upgrade GT80's GPU. The msi forum says you can upgrade.

https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=274983.0

Its only advertised as "upgradable" in the US. But noone can upgrade it. Some people want to sue for false advertising.

true. i found that in a forum some time ago. was wondering if there's any upgrade option here.

Successfully migrated from HDD to 960 Pro NVME 1TB, but not without hitches.

What did i do:

1. Install SSD
2. Update driver via Samsung webpage http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minis...load/tools.html
3. Installed Samsung Magician & Samsung Data Migration software
4. Format ssd
5. Updated firmware through Samsung Magician and migrate data
6. Migration success but windows 10 was not working properly. (taskbar icons gone, cortana unusable (not that i use it anyways)) and overall slow performance.

What solved it:

1. Installed EaseUS Todo Backup Free.
2. Cloned the whole drive.
3. Reboot, boot into uefi, change the boot sequence, disabled origal boot drive (HDD), enable boot from ssd
4. Boot in 4 seconds!! (holy mother of God)
5. run msconfig, just to make sure windows in actually booting from ssd
6. ran all commonly used softwares (Office, Agisoft Photoscan, Steam, etc)
7. Profit? Not quite yet.
8. Formatted the HDD in Windows Disk Management ---> Extra storage for work
9. Reboot, repeat step 6.
10. Profit.

It does exist bro. I wouldn't have suggested it if it's not available. I bought my MSI laptop recently, about three weeks ago, from the official MSI Malaysia distributor, Brightstar Computer. I did enquire about this and they offered a warranty extension for two years. I can't remember the exact figure now but it's quite reasonable, considering that a high spec laptop can cost an arm and a leg lol. If you don't buy yours through the official distributor, you might not get the offer but it's worth asking if you can get it.
Great job bro! I love Samsung SSD as they're reliable and super fast. I'm going to change my HDD as well once the warranty on my machine expires haha.

Good explanation on the steps needed. You have to change the boot sequence anyway when you want to boot from your SSD rather than your HDD, and it's usually safer to get it all cloned, and cleaned, before installing the SSD.

thanks. The guide seems necessary as it might help in the future. i can say that if Samsung Data Migration doesnt work, try other software.
