Sorry for being a bit off topic here. (Since u guys are discussing about the latest skylake msi pe60 with cheap display panel). I heard that the broadwell msi pe60 has this bsod bug: BSOD MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION error. One retailer I asked mentioned that broadwell msi pe60 is well known with this bsod bug. Is that true? Anybody here can confirm this?

Never BSOD until now

I had no issue with Window 8.1 even upgrade with Window 10, v1511

Confirm with witcher 3 & lightroom rendering smile.gif

Thanks for the confirmation! smile.gif I thought so many people are having this issue. So this bsod bug isn't really that widespread la? hmm.gif My sister might wanna buy one, but afraid if got lemon unit with that bsod bug. Actually, planning to get the newer skylake version but u guys here are reporting cheap screen display, so better get the broadwell one with the better display panel. sweat.gif

Anybody here has the experience of sending your laptop for warranty? I need to know how long the process would be since I might need to send my msi pe60 for warranty soon due to the slightly broken left hinge.

Anyone done replace thermal paste?

looking for good thermal paste, any recommendation?
p/s: PE60 = GE62
*
I just did dust cleaning and thermal paste change on my msi pe60 last week with this guy: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3812785

Highly recommended and u get high quality thermal paste for your cpu and gpu: mx-4 for cpu and Extreme Fusion X-1 for gpu! thumbsup.gif

I think nobody else provide service quite like him. You even can see him doing the whole process in front of you and have a long chat with him about pc & laptop stuff. Plus, his price is quite affordable with the service + quality thermal paste that u get for your laptop. rclxms.gif

My laptop has better average temp now & no longer spike high temp during long multi-tasking session. smile.gif

Remember one thing though to all MSI laptop users (in case if some of u still don't know): The Shift Mode is actually a feature to overclock/to tune down the performance of your laptop based on your need. The Sport mode is obviously is meant to overclock you laptop for the maximum cpu and gpu performance but with the cost of high temp. If u use the sport mode all the time, your laptop is actually being overclocked all the time and your laptop will run on high temp nearly most of the time especially during heavy load (gaming especially). Plus, our tropical hot weather further will worsen the temp of the laptop. This surely will quickly reduce the lifespan of your laptop... Hence, this might be the reason why so many cases of MSI laptop being fried out even just only after one year of usage. (unless if the laptop is always being used in the air-cond environment 24 hours) hmm.gif I bet this might not be the case with the MSI laptop users in other countries becoz their weather is not always steamy hot like us, so their laptops will run just fine with quite low average temp. Just my two cents though~~

Wanna upgrade to ssd. Gotta bring back to shop to get it if dun wan void warranty?
*
Yeah, better to bring it back to the shop for the ssd upgrade, if your shop is an authorized msi seller. The shop can remove the warranty sticker using special tool, and do the ssd upgrade for u. You can also do the ssd upgrade by yourself, not that difficult though but you might have to spoil the warranty sticker to open the back case to do so. I dunno if this will void the warranty or not.

That Gadget Zone Shop?? shocking.gif I bought my pe60 from there as well last time~~

Luckily I didn't send my laptop for thermal paste change to them. I might be unfortunate just like u if I did so... sweat.gif

Or, u were just so unlucky that time..... sweat.gif

Msi laptops in general are quite good and even better with their exclusive features (steelseries keyboard, nahimic & dynaudio, shift, etc..) compared to other gaming laptops. The only problem with most Msi laptops (in my opinion) is the overheating problem. I dunno why, but maybe due to the design flaw perhaps? But if u check on numerous reviews of msi gaming laptops, msi NB usually are praised for its good cooling performance... This is indeed the opposite of what most Msi users are experiencing here in our country. I bet the Msi laptop cooling system is not sufficient enough to work efficiently in tropical climate, hence the rampant overheating issue being reported. Plus, Msi aftersale service seems to be nearly the same boat like asus though judging from the reported cases here.

Is this overheating problem ... due to the haze? smile.gif ever cars get overheated easily nowadays
*
I dunno though... rclxub.gif Our average ambient temp is increasing these days due to the el nino stuff. The way how I see it, it is always advisable for Msi users to do gaming in air-cond room to help reducing the overheating issue. Using laptop cooler also is a must. ( I personally use both cooler pad and exhaust type cooler) smile.gif

Does msi malaysia cover warranty if buy msi laptop from amazon?
*
You have to double check with amazon if the laptop does come with international warranty (usually 1 year standard international warranty). If it does, msi malaysia definitely will cover the international warranty. But if amazon stated that the model doesn't have international warranty (usually US set ), better don't buy it. The laptop will not be covered by the msi malaysia warranty OR IF msi malaysia (their staff at the service centre) is generous enough, they will still try to count your warranty period from the laptop's date of manufacture. If the the date of manufacture already passed one year period by the time you send the laptop to the msi centre, they will definitely charge you for service which is nearly rm300 including gst (even though if u just send your laptop to check what the problem is, which is sucks.... doh.gif )

This is based on my previous experience of going to the msi centre for warranty stuff (since I own 2 msi laptop so far on record, and no more msi for me in the future..) whistling.gif

Better still, buy M'sia set though for definite warranty support and save yourself from the hassle and headache later if your laptop got problem.. If u buy from amazon, u have to pay extra (tax, kastam, etc..) still aint cheap in the end, plus the uncertain warranty status.

Be safe rather than sorry later bro. Gaming laptop aint cheap unless your are rich or something...

Yes, just register your MSI laptop online and do it from there but just to be on the safe side, contact MSI Malaysia for a quote.
*
As far as I know, there is no such thing as warranty extension that u can purchase like other brands offer eg: Dell, Acer...in M'sia. U may get several months warranty extension free when registering your laptop on MSI website. But that is it... I do know that msi warranty extension can be purchased somewhere & does exist ( as stated on MSI official website) but I don't think it is offered here in M'sia though. This is based on my experience of having two MSI laptop previously.. correct me if I'm wrong..

I know I was right. Haha... rolleyes.gif Anyway, I have gone through not so pleasant experience with my both previously owned msi laptops regarding the Msi warranty policy & their service centre ( I went to the kelana jaya one, not the new location at kota kemuning. so I dunno if their service has improved or just the same) hmm.gif

Because of these unpleasant experiences regarding the warranty stuff, I just bought another new laptop with better warranty service and I did not regret even a bit.. Msi does indeed have the largest laptop range to offer with some of the best gaming features on their laptops, but their warranty service is just.... not good. Sub par I would say. sweat.gif Plus, their quality is like all over the place. bangwall.gif (Maybe the GT series is good overall as claimed by many. Below that, GE, GP, or GL, u have to rely on luck to not get any issue) Both my previous laptop got issues; the first one was minor but the second one was quite major and it is the sole reason I regret using Msi laptops. When got issues or lemon unit, you are bound to face the unpleasant steps to RMA & those waiting stuffs, explaining the issue with the hope they could really detect the exact issues yada, yada, yada... u know that. rclxub.gif

Another issue why I regret using Msi is the stupid void warranty sticker at one of the back screws. If the laptop was opened by yourself (for various reasons like upgrading internal & cleaning etc), & not by the authorized shop/retailer you bought from, the warranty is void.... confused.gif what a biggest bummer is that when you already bought an expensive laptop, but have no freedom to open it without voiding the warranty.. bangwall.gif mad.gif

I'm not discouraging any potential future buyer from purchasing Msi laptops but bear in mind of these issues or u will have headache later on to deal with if u got unlucky.

Sorry to hear you have bad experiences with MSI laptops. This is my first MSI as I decide to give them a try. My previous ones were Dell, Asus, and Acer in that order lol. To be honest, most warranty issues is a bitch to handle, regardless of which brand they are, except Dell, who have their own service team. I bought mine, and there was an major issue, but I did manage to exchange it as it was within the 7 days, that it is allowed for an exchange. I'm lucky so far with this current unit, but we'll see.

I get the void sticker frustration, as I have that same feeling about it lol. I built PCs for fun and as a hobby, and I have opened a few laptops, including the three that I have mentioned, so I know what I'm doing, and was a bit disappointed to see that sticker lol. But, no worrries. Once my warranty expires, I'm opening that machine haha.

Which laptop do you have now, if you don't mind me asking? Sounds like an option for me next time, in the next few years, when it's time for an upgrade haha.

My current laptop now is illegear s7 pascal. Just bought a month ago. I got two issues right away but both were settled in shortest time. The best warranty service ever. rclxms.gif thumbup.gif

First issue got logo sticker on the display lid chipped away in the first week of usage. Sent to illegear & they fixed in a matter of an hour or so.
Second issue, dead pixel appeared on my screen the second day I bought it. Send to illegear for the second time, they got the screen replaced one to one in just merely two working days. Bear in mind, I did include the pixel policy in my purchase order & it seemed a great move since my laptop got lemon display. (illegear standard warranty will only cover more than 2 dead pixels, other brands probably 5 dead pixels before can claim warranty if I'm not mistaken..)

I'm really happy with my laptop now and it is my worthy purchase out of my 3 gaming laptops I ever owned. Worth every penny. biggrin.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
Planning to extend the warranty next month.

Sorry for promoting illegear on Msi thread lol... tongue.gif I still think Msi got good selection of gaming laptops in the market with gamer oriented features but the warranty here in M'sia is just meeh... puke.gif and that stupid void warranty sticker. shakehead.gif mad.gif

For me, when purchasing gaming laptop warranty service must be the first thing to consider before opting the specs & features since u gonna spend premium on it. Of course u want it worth your purchase since gaming laptops aint cheap... Especially with our current economy, everything purchased must worth it.

Hi All

what type of ram should i use for my MSI PL60-7RD-001? (Wish to add 8GB)
i just bought the laptop few days ago.
below is the details of my current Ram

Speed        : 2400MHz
Form Factor : SODIMM
Memory      : 4GB
and also wish to recommend which shop are willing to help me upgrade the ram and without voiding the warranty then reattach it when you are done . [attachmentid=9008334]

Try this shop: Hypetech in Digital Mall, PJ... The shop is inside another shop, Gadget Zone. I bought my first Msi laptop here & I can confirm this shop is an authorized msi reseller & u can do component upgrade for your msi laptop here without voiding your warranty sticker. Regarding your ram upgrade, u may find the suitable model for your laptop at the shop as well at reasonable price. I highly advice u to buy the ram at the same shop as well instead of buying the ram from other shop & later come to this shop for the upgrade process becoz the shop might charge u to do so ( which is a waste of money).. If u buy the ram at the shop, the upgrade process is just free.

The shop is at the second floor if I'm not mistaken. It is easy to find as the shop got Msi demo laptops on display..

Here is the link for more information: http://www.lelong.com.my/merchant/hypetech.htm

why not u try going to the msi service centre at kota kemuning (if not mistaken). . U can check the actual address at the Msi official website. Sure u can buy a new original power adapter but it might be a bit pricey.. hmm.gif
