Calling any Brisbane people:

Does anyone know of a place to fix Handphones? Mine died on me, and I'm kinda not willing to fork out for a new one or be bound to a cap plan. If I can get it fixed for a nominal sum it'd be great.

Thanks in advance.

thanks u for ur advice and opinion. i know my english is poor , and it is very very poor also ... i m not like u guys that come from a good family who born with the gold key and some english educated background. u r shameful to be malaysian ? then u better hide it , and i honestly tell u ,they are still ppl here are not even know how to write and talk english. even some dunno how to use internet also ... u must hide far far away , cox ppl like u that like face alot sure come from a rich family. but lucky i m pure chinese that i still realise one word (THE DOG EYE LOOK PPL DOWN !!! ) so, i wont blame u to prick my bubble.

You and your pure Chinese. Let me prick more of your bubble: not matter what you say and think, you will never be able to intergrate back into Chinese and Taiwanese society. If you can good for you, but it says volumes when there are so many Chinese-language teachers who came out of Taiwan and are teaching in Malaysia.

Walkin, dreams are one thing. I dream of a A$800,000/year salary. I dream of having Sakurai Honoka as my wife. I dream of living in a 2 acre Queenslander house. I dream of having a 911 in my garage. But unfortunately, I'm just a student living in a noisy $120/wk apartment with the main road in front and a traintrack outside my window.

This is my greatest gripe against the Chinese educated. They still have the 黑鬼 mentality in them, thinking that English is for the preserve of the rich and the elite. I know I'm going to open a can of worms saying this, but most Chinese educated people I know can't see beyond their noses. And I'm not talking about Malaysians either. It seems to afflict from the Taiwanese to the South African Chinese I meet here.

It's not that I want to be critical of Malaysia. Give me time and space and I'd go on about the flaws, shortcomings and how immigrants take advantage of Australia (and NZ for that matter). The only difference is that Australians can take constructive criticism, while Malaysians have this seige mentality that the world is dead against them.

and thanks for guiding me , i just only know the agent will earn alot from me , that y they serve me so nice ..... cox i thought i will use them to help me apply uni only ....lucky u all tell .... if not i will also kenal potong by them d ....HAHAHA

classic example of a 井底之蛙 being seduced by the agents.

QUOTE
actually u should learn how to change ur attitude of satirize ppl ..ppl always say that malaysia boleh ... if u can say out malaysia tak boleh, u will get a lawyer letter soon .. so , u should change ur way to give opinion to someone and u should try to help them and not to satirize them.... and i m really sorry if i say anything that hurt u .... but i think u wont understand wat i m saying with my poor english also....however i will thanks u a million for ur advise ....

Well, I'm waiting. Have I ever said anything that is false or defamatory in this forum?

My way of "give opinion to someone" is frank and direct. Simple as that.

QUOTE
HAHA ... biggrin.gif  i really dont know how to write a proper english already. i just write out wat is in my mind . i really thinking how to improve my english without proper education ....cox i wont know when m i doing mistake ..... i can write i can talk but not in the proper way ... any suggestion ? read novel ? newspaper ? (but i seldom read) ...but is it really work ?

Y'know, there is this thread:http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=515460&hl=

And the first thing you see there will be:
QUOTE
1. use proper English when typing your SMSes
2. use proper English when participating forums as such
3. have a blog and write your heart out

smile.gif 3 among the many ways to improve English. Learn to be picky on your choice of words would be helpful too.

QUOTE
LAstly ... i read some post from other ppl too, but i dunt get the meaning also , cox my english really too poor , i will try to understand it when i was free. wat is Engrand actually ? aiya .... watever la .... i dunt care wat bout u guys talking bout me.... just to say sorry if i offended u or ur fren ... dunt blame all on me .... is ur fren started satirize me 1st .... so , pls make it clear . we r all fren here ...try to help each other if can help ... i think we all also dunt like to live with enemy right ?

It is your "whatever lah" mentality that makes you a 井底之蛙。

We are not saying that "without English you are as good as dead". But if you want to come to Australia to study, the first thing you need is the language. Its the same, be it if I go to Taiwan, Japan, Korea to study. I'd have to learn the local language, and that's what we're trying to get into your thick skull tell you.

QUOTE
going through a bit of the thread, you guys are saying IDP's services aren't good?! meaning we should source out everything by ourselves rather than seek their services for our education? sometimes the net can get a bit overloaded, i have to admit. too much info and a lot of luring with sweet talk.

I've never used IDP's services, but never have I said "don't use agents!". I also used one, if only because the application fee is waived through them. All i said was do not rely on them solely for information. We have the internet. In between online gaming and trolling, do something a bit more constructive. Do your own research. Coming to this thread is one, but we do not spoon feed you. Take us as a guide, not as a hard set of rules.

I admit, the information overload can be near critical levels. But the alternative is to be cheated and bitterly dissapointed. I say this because I have seen waaay too many students, usually from China and Taiwan, who have been burnt by the unrealistic expactions their agents have seduced them with. I can feel a bit sorry for them, as they cant read English like us Malaysians can. All I want to do is to ensure that my fellow countrymen do not make the same narrow minded mistakes of others.

This forum needs a context-sensitive spelling and grammar checking tool.

Firefox has one. Handy before hitting the "add reply" button.

Milton. Coro Drive in front, Train tracks at back, tilt train twice a day, cargo trains at night, and Suncorp Stadium from my window.

Still, I can get to uni in 10 mins, who's complaining?

Limeuu is in the university of real life. But it doesn't matter where you go, spoon feeding does not exist in the real world.

Whatever it is,the level of education here is different from those in Malaysia period. Definitely no spoonfeeding, and they are those that follow thoroughly via protocol. Pro's and con's. Its the real world, back in Msia, its the Bolehland mentality.

I don't mind being forkfeed, at least they give you informations to begin with. My course is filled with lecturers that are genuine geeks, hence their absurd knowledge in programming, but when it comes to explaining it, they'll give you a ride around the eye of London.
*
Tell me about it. Especially when the programming language you're doing is Scheme. You end up with some pretty weird stuff.

I still can't eat with a fork and knife through. Still need a spoon. tongue.gif

Dont worry. Thats normal. My lectures are filled with people on MSN at the back of the hall. biggrin.gif

And guys, do not convert! Honestly, if I converted every time I bought something I'd be dead right now.

here in aussie it is harder to own a fire arms than in america
but imagine when it is bad time... shakehead.gif

Well IMO, you have a greater chance of being run over by a Mat Rempit than being shot in the US. Seriously, Virginia Tech aside, if you look at the figures, there are about 30 shooting incidents in US universities a year (Newsweek, one of the May 2007 issues). And how many rape cases are there a day in M'sia? Not to mention the death trap called our roads.

Try Qantas. While SuperSaver fares might be thin on the ground for Dec, it is always a good shot. And if you can afford it, Etihad and Emirates are reasonable, through you'd have to go through SIN.

today is Curtin's turn...

but s***, 1 tosai $5??!! = RM15!!!  siao!!

WTH is a tosai?

Seems like Multicultural Week in other uni's sound more fun that QUT's. All I had was the screening of "Singapore Dreaming" by the (who else) Singaporean club. The other clubs are either dead or have them at weird times.

Does Oktoberfest count through? biggrin.gif

I can tell you Brisbane is not that cheap now either. Everything is going up, from rent to food to public transport. TG international students still get concession fares in QLD.

From what I've heard, WA isn't that much cheaper nowadays. Not when they seem to hit every single mineral on earth when they dig a hole in the ground. Adelaide and Hobart maybe?

level 5, starting from early this year...4.5 mintues of shower, that means if u start playing a song when u go into shower, chances are u hav to finish the shower before the song ends laugh.gif tried saving water by showering w/ my gf but turn out to be staying longer in there tongue.gif

The rains barely made a dent in the damn dams. We're heading to level 6 by December if nothing improves. Total ban on outdoor watering (not that I have a garden), massive fines for people who don't stick with Target140. Makes me wish I was in "waterplentiful" Hobart sometimes. biggrin.gif

You mean along the sloping hill to Central? Yeah, that is a nice place to do some photography. Especially when the lights are red for all 4 sides of the road for pedestrians to walk to all sides of the junction. Does make it look like Tokyo. biggrin.gif
QUOTE
What the. What kind of restriction are these ?
4.5 minutes of shower. I don't think I can do that laugh.gif
At least 10. 4.5 mins Not even finish washing my small brother laugh.gif
Whats bakpak hostel ??

Its not as bad as you think. When I came here I was like you, what the?! But once you get the hang of it, its not that hard. Of course, don't live in a place with a outdoor toilet. Guaranteed impossible to stick to the 4 min rule in winter!

QUOTE
its recommended that you shower for 4 minutes that's it. water will still flow.

its a recommendation because each person is allowed about 140 liters of water a day because australia's experiencing one of the worst droughts in history. dams around the brisbane are down to 21% of water storage, if there's no rain then the water will run out in 3 months time

to roughly show you how much 140 liters of water is worth, 4 minute shower uses up till 48 liters of water. 1 full flush uses 6 liters of water etc.
My place uses about 130litres/person. I suppose its coz we spend all our time in uni. happy.gif'' But seriously, its not that hard. The state gov is giving you free water saving shower heads, most places have dual flush toilets etc. And heck, they'll even do a free check on your plumbing and tell you what you can do to improve your water savings.

At the end of the day, I get to save water, and dough. Even if Brisbane was swimming with water I'd still do all those!

At the rate the AUD is going through, I think we'd see a almost 1 to one exchange rate with the USD sooner rather than later. Its 0.90 to the USD, and no sign of going down.

Half of my friends who are addicted to ebay are buying like mad.
