how to disable the laptop form going into high performance mode? Although i put it in power saving mode, it often go into high performance mode automatically , i wanna disable it becoz the temp often go beyond 50 degree and eat up battery .

just uninstall any power management software. it's likely that the tool is interfering with your power profiles.

i have never used any power management software , i just used the stock windows settings at the power option there.

if that's the case, i am not sure what to look for. i personally have not experienced random power plan changes in my computers in w10. (maybe because i very seldom use a laptop while unplugged)

Bro, I have problem VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR since past week. Its seem that the problem coming from my Intel® HD Graphics Family display adapter. Sebab when I open Device Manager and try to update driver software the laptop will automatically restart. Even if I try to uninstall or disable it still automatically restart. Tak boleh usik sikit Intel driver.

Its kinda leceh sebab I cant install Adobe Photoshop cause when the sniffer.exe run the laptop will display same text and automatically restart.

Im using NVIDIA GeForce.

Thanks.
*
a better way to fix this is to visit the support page of your computer manufacturer website, download and use the w10 compatible gpu drivers for your laptop model released by them. those are the drivers that they have confirmed for you that work well for your computer.

for gpu, you don't use device manager to update drivers. use their installers instead.

have you tried the no-sound trick? if you pasted your sentence above at google, that's the one that came out, e.g. http://www.tenforums.com/installation-setu...g-software.html

try change the windows sound theme to no sound. maybe you need to reboot the computer also.

my issue is quite tricky.

I can not disable user account control (or bring it to the lowest), it just pop back.

I can not edit the registry. every time i invoke regedit, it just shows file error.
*
have you tried this one? http://www.tenforums.com/general-discussio...html#post306429

that's the working solution that worked for many.

then is better to use windows 8.1 pro to upgrade to windows 10 pro
or just download windows 10 education ?

just wondering does the windows 10 education license will expired or not once I graduate hmm.gif
as I don't see much different between pro and education laugh.gif
*
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/WindowsForBusiness/Compare

w10 education should have more user features and controls, so check if you need those. if not, just grab w8.1 pro. according to dreamspark eula, you get to keep it after graduation.

i don't quite get what you mean. do you mean to say that you wanna access its administration page located at 192.168.0.1? if that's the case, you can use a lan cable connecting to it from your computer.

I see, before that I was using windows 7 and was no need to use lan cable to access it, now u saying it , very not user friendly la for windows 10
*
.. ok i assume you're telling me that in w7 you don't need to configure anything to access the modem. how exactly did you do that in w7? sorry with so little information i don't even know if your computer is connected to the modem via wifi in the first place hehe

well, if you think using a lan cable is considered as 'very not user friendly', so be it. just revert to w7 and be happy smile.gif

I have no idea also since I watch these TM technician doing their wifi modem setup also no need for lan cable, so it is easy to access just using wifi to access it just to type 192.168.0.1, since that time I using windows 7 and TM technician using Windows Xp.
*
my question is still: is your computer connected to your wifi modem?

edit: the main reason i suggested using a lan cable was because when there is something wrong between a wifi modem and a computer via wifi connection, a direct connection, like lan connection, is the most straightforward way to establish the link between the two, so that you can trouble shoot further. usually no configuration is required in this case.

that's why my question is still: have you set up w10 wifi connection with the right ssid and put in password (if any) to establish the wifi connection with the modem? without this one, you will not be able to access 192.168.0.1 with the computer.

yes but it cant be used to access d-link wifi modem administration, everytime type in the webpage will saying can't be found after upgrade windows 10

oh. in that case, it might be due to several reasons. are you using the computer with that wifi modem? what's the internal ip address of your computer? it should be 192.168.0.something.

i mean your computer's ip address. to check that you can run administrative command prompt and type ipconfig. check the ipv4 address of your wifi adapter.

edit: yeah i agree with shakku, this is very likely networking-related.

mind if i ask anyone here is using home edition win 10 and running visual studio at the same time?
*
it's really up to the scope of your development work. if you develop something without any dependencies on version-specific features, and you know you will never use those features, w10 home is fine.

edit: if the rumors are true, we will be seeing th2 release on 10 nov. (all reported as build 10586) file push of this build to insiders should be at anytime now.

if the pc is pre-installed with genuine win 8 , then i upgrade to win 10 . If i wanna format it , then i can only format to ori win8 first , then only can upgarde to win 10 again ?

what Cynox said. i have tested the same also.

since many people are still very confused about this digital entitlement, ms has done something for them. after the upcoming w10 nov update, we can also use w7/8.x keys to activate w10.

there are several ways to do this, so it's up to the user to choose the time-consuming way or the quicker way.

afaik we have iis express bundled in vs 2015 community. it should be able to install on w10 home, as i don't see why not.

Hi forumers.. I have this weird problem. Anyone mind helping?

All my pendrives and external hard disk, which i named, appears to become unnamed when i plugged it in into my win10 device.. but if i plughed in to my other pc which is not win10, its ok..

Example:
I named my pendrive as Games 8GB, and I can view the name as it is in my PC. But when i plugged it into my win10,  the name become Removable Drive. Even if i renamed it in win10, it doesn't work. I ran a scan but it was clear of virus or malware.

Anyone have similar problem?
*
no issues here. i have usb sticks that i have formatted and renamed using older os (w7; 8.x). some also use bitlocker. nothing weird happens.

what if you back up the contents, then reformat and rename it with w10?

edit:

yeah. i think with a bit of touch-ups this build is good to go.

nothing much changed since the last rtm build in terms of visuals. there are few new icons (usb at notification area; control panel etc.), and also there is an usb notification thing in settings > devices.

hey guys. My laptop is 3year old + still using window 7 with i5 4gm ram only...

do you guys recommend to upgrade to window 10? (light gamer)
*
in general it will work well, as long as there are compatible drivers for key parts in your laptop.

for today's usage, imo it's better to bump up the ram to at least 8gb.

for light usage, 4gb might be sufficient. for heavy usage, 16gb or above is much better.

QUOTE(1024kbps @ Nov 8 2015, 10:21 PM)
As long as you dont game on 4GB or 8GB system then you will probably be fine.

The Windows 8/8.1 has weird problem with ram usage, i had 8GB ram with 50% of utilization, whenever i ran a 3d game it will tell me there is not enough ram or the game will jsut crash.

I was tired of that shit and added additional 16GB ram on it. lol
*
recent os, or rather, software, uses ram to enhance performance. for gaming in particular, it's better to have at least 16gb. 32gb might be an overkill, but i think in near future this will be recommended.

when i play bf4 (w10 build 10586; 980 sli; uhd monitor; custom game settings), my ram usage for that game is around 13 to 15gb.

It's not a big issue, but it irks me that my drives are all now named as "removeable drive" in my windows 10 device.

Couldn't find any helpful advice online though... Maybe only me having this problem...  blink.gif

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3105211)

QUOTE(twosocks @ Nov 13 2015, 01:06 AM)
Resurrected my Acer Timeline 1810tz with windows 10 upgrade from win7 home premium.

Downloaded media creation tool and proceeded to install from usb drive.
Choosed to keep user files only.

However, after the installation was completed the Lan driver and wifi driver didn't work.

From Device Manager I've uninstalled the old drivers and scanned for changes.
Windows 10 automatically installed new driver.
After that, Lan and wifi is working again.
*
good for you biggrin.gif

edit: just installed KB3105211. it's not the same as insider preview esds that i linked previously, for the build string is now 10586.3.

edit.2: i just realized that the machine i have done the update is running build 10586, hence the update took only a few minutes because of the much smaller KB3105211 (about 60+ MB in total, which includes another 11MB language pack patch). for build 10240 (July release), you will go through the similar upgrade path when you accepted the free w10 upgrade offer. it's about 6 to 7 GB+ in total, depending on your system i believe. this one will take some time to process.

w10 media creation tool has been updated for those who wanna download a copy of new th2 release iso for future use, http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
