The old Nokia phones and Symbian have this feature of sharing internet connection through USB. But is it more convenient to use the Internet sharing function without any cables at all? It is still called tethering whether with or without a cable.

For wired connection or USB tethering, You need to share Internet to an android device & connect that android device to your PC.

As of now, Windows Phone 8 or 8.1 doesn't support USB sharing.

I can see the need for a USB tethering if the PC does not have a wifi card though. Hopefully future Windows 10 for mobile will support this feature and it will be few weeks away before Microsoft unleashes the preview.

whoops my bad its 1020. mixed up 1080 (tv resolution lol) but yeah internet sharing is definitely not a problem.

sharing internet using USB cable is a function called "tethering"

to answer your questions : phone firmware updated to the max, windows updated to the max. auto update already set but also manually force update to check updates. USB port is healthy. OS healthy. sharing internet via bluetooth wifiu?tethering is a different technology but I did test out internet sharing (phone hotspot) which works as expected on my laptop which is on windows 8.1

if you wanna say my phone/usb cable/pc/OS/firmware got prob, i do IT at my workplace so i do have access to many various devices/PCs. when internet goes down, i do help my colleagues tether their phones to their PCs if really needed to and what i found was ANDROID phones can tether to windows 8.1 pcs with no issue. but when I wanna do the same? FAIL my windows phone cant do that, how embarrassing is it to be an IT guy using a high end windows phone but cant even do tethering when your colleagues phone which cost 1/3 or 1/2  of my phone can do something mine cant?

you can try googling "tethering windows phone", you will find no real results where you can see people asking on how to tether but people respond ignorantly by teaching them to use internet sharing (hotspot/wifi/bluetooth). you can even find some people even  suggesting that this feature be added in on windows phones.

retarded level max. windows phone OS? no thanks.

sure makes sense for laptops and home pc's that use wireless.

but as it is i am mindfucked at how the windows team conveniently decided not to include this feature in. its even shittier when you realize that old windows phones COULD usb tether using a service menu:

http://www.gsmarena.com/windows_phone_7_fe...l-news-2068.php

i know it might seem as a petty reason to hate an OS so much but at times i want to burn off all my data allowance and at times my PC's wifi dongle may be having problems, usb tethering is so damn useful.

Seems like WP8/8.1 does not have this feature, WP7.8 yes. And yes we can share our phone internet to Bluetooth if your PC has Bluetooth.

Like wise the problem you are facing is just a minimal function, it might be very critical to you because it actually made you lose face I guess? lol, anyway most big companies has at least 2 ISP for Business & Routine management. On WP we can connect with VPN/Workplace Account app for company unlike the other OS which have to rely on 3rd party app, but I would say not many company out there has implemented a full working eco system with Windows Phone yet.

ps: you can do something like taking low light/ultra clear picture/4k video with your phone that any low end android cant do to gain back your face tongue.gif

i dont care about bluetooth... lol, i dont really know who cares about bluetooth internet sharing, most laptops have wifi capability. for modern desktop pcs usually wifi is not bundled in together, i doubt bluetooth is bundled together with "normal" desktop pcs either.

losing face is a small matter at work. but as i mentioned, it can be freaking frustrating when my wifi dongle at home has problems and i cant even tether.

either way windows phone OS really is bullshit to me if they cant provide this "minimal function"

in regards to pictures, i bought my 1020 for pictures alone without researching any other functions as i put my faith to windows phone expecting it to be good. silly me

One other thing I would like MS to bring back is Nokia alarm used to work even while the phone is turned off.

The alarm thing sucks, didn't know about it. Hope Microsoft can fix it. The charging thing doesn't bother me.
Another thing , I hope apps support will be so much better for windows 10.

Currently the most I like is Cortana and its feature like turning off to night mode

I also like the separation of installed application page and the shortcuts to run the application page

Felt sorry for that. As a Nexus user. I get what you mean of lag of Touchwiz. rolleyes.gif

Windows should be more buttery smooth than Samsung.
