People buy consoles that are modded....and the more sales for that modded console...more developers will develope games for it......
*
That is a completely WRONG statement. I have to emphasise the wrong because it is totally the opposite situation.

Do you know HOW developers get their money? From the sales of their software. Their revenue totally depends on the volume of sales of ORIGINAL software.

They don't give a damn about sales for a console. What they really care about is how much their game can sell, and that's it.

Having a modded console WILL NOT cause more developers to do games for the console. It is quite the opposite. They will shy away, because the games that they have spent thousands on, or even millions, will be easily pirated, and they won't get a single sen from it.

Sorry, but I have to emphasise this. Modded consoles/piracy do not benefit the videogaming industry one bit.....

EG....

1)12 Million X consoles worldwide sold
out of these 12 million consoles, developers will never know the percentage
of the consoles that are modded.

2)5 miilion Z consoles worlwide sold
out of these 5 million consoles, developers will never know the percentage
of the consoles that are modded.

Now,
Lets say that X sold more bcos it has been hacked or has better or stable mod than Z.

If you were a game developer which console would you take a risk on?
*
LOL...it doesn't make sense, because developers don't really care about modded consoles. Like I said, they only care about how many games they can sell, since that's WHERE they're getting their money.

Sigh....IMHO this topic should be closed. Talking about piracy isn't really appropriate here. It has been done to death anyways.

Dude.... in business, you take into account factors that affect your REVENUE.

Does piracy affect your revenue? Yes! But it's a NEGATIVE effect. So would you develop for a console that has a lot of piracy on it? NO! Why? It NEGATIVELY affects your REVENUE!

I can't believe this...you're talking about business, but it's such an obvious business equation. You DON'T do business on a console that will cause you to lose money! Goodness, I can't believe I'm arguing about business with someone who just doesn't understand business to begin with.

Well, it's a well known fact MS is losing money, and they'll continue to do so for a while. But of course, the 360 to them is a long-term investment. They probably don't expect to recoup their investment for another 2-3 years at least.

Things like LIVE, Marketplace and games is the only place where MS makes money, or for that matter, any console makers make money. Consoles? No, they're losing a lot of money there. By calculation, in order to break even, they have to sell around 5-6 games for each console to stop making a loss.

So imagine the amount that MS/Sony/Ninty are losing if piracy reigns.... they're selling a console at a loss, and can't recoup that loss through software/downloads. sad.gif

Well, I have bought games from there as well. Other than Djinn (when he worked there) and the girl, the others do have a problem with their PR IMHO.

But then again, most shops other thanTSB, TNL or Imbi Mario will discourage you to buy original games. I remember asking about a GC game at another shop in 1U, and they quoted me RM280 shocking.gif Of course I complained, since most GC games don't exceed RM240, and the reason they gave me was "this is original, of course la expensive"

Didnt you notice that all the games that were made for the 360 are nearly as equal in in quality as the xbox.....its just a training ground for them....and they want to get a head start to master the dev kit supplied by SONY....everything into factor...thats what i mean....So that they can maximize the knowledge to produce better games in the near future....
*
You must be blind if you say 360 games are equal in quality as Xbox games. Training ground? Dude, you think developing for X360 is the same as developing for PS3? Two different console = two different programming methods/syntax due to the different programming language and tools provided, not to mention the difference in hardware. Your suggestion that X360 is a "training ground" for PS3 is laughable.

and besides...when do you think they can get the best income? Before they hackers hack the console or after they manage to hack the console....so they race against time to develop games while they get 100% genuine sales and good profit from the 100% original sales....bcos they know if they wait any longer out of 100 buyers only 50% will be ori software....but that doesnt mean they will stiop producing games cos they know the more consoles out there the more sales of ori versus pirated ones...in JAPAN and US and some part of EUR...

LOL...I think I need a translator here because I have no idea what you just said. Please come back with proper paragraphing, and more coherency, then we can continue our debate laugh.gif

LOL, let's just let this thread die lah. I need to concentrate on my business classes anyways since I was told I cannot run a business laugh.gif

Just one last... I can see that our man carnby here keeps assuming a lot of things. Assuming that Sony and Microsoft purposely left loopholes. Assuming I don't know business (LOL FYI I hold a business degree and am working in a retail company, and I find this comment very insulting). Assuming we all don't have social lives.

I'll teach you one of the first things I learnt when I studied in uni:

ASSUME = ASS ,U and ME

Good day biggrin.gif
