Okay, just completed my 1st ever BT, from UOB to MBB.

Filled the form and emailed it on 28/11 (Friday) afternoon.
Received acknowledgement email, not the automated one, on 1/12 (Monday) morning.
One time 3% charge on 3/12 (Wednesday).
Payment to UOB card on 3/12 (Wednesday).
One time 3% waived on 4/12 (Thursday).

MBB did not call me or anything, the only thing I receive was the acknowledgement email.

When should I expect to see them charge the 1st instalment to my MBB card?

28th of the month.

Guys - sorry I am a BT dummy. I always thought it's some 'scam' haha. I guess I am in a bit of a problem now and have racked up a lot of CC debts on my one and only Citibank CC (I don't have any other credit cards at the moment). I am thinking of a way to try to reduce the amount of interest I am paying. Appreciate if the SIFUs here can advise

Current situation :
1. Citibank Credit card (RM52k owed) - payment due on 23rd each month. I only have one credit card.
2. I am paying about RM 2.4K monthly minimum now (I am trying to reduce the amount I need to pay monthly if it's possible?)

Appreciate your advise on the following questions
1. Is it advisable to do a BT ?
2. If it is - which bank ?
3. What amount should I BT if I can pay about RM 2.4 K monthly (max) and what would be my minimum be for Citibank and what amount would I need to pay to the BT bank?
3. I suppose I must apply for a new CC with the target bank before I can BT ?
4. What documents must I furnish my current bank / target bank with ?
5. How long does it take before it takes into effect?

Sorry - noob at this

Thx

1st, since you can owe citibank 52k, I assume u must be in high income salary range. Even your income doc might be strong, but your outstanding debt might scare away some bank which they do not want to issue you with high credit limit CC.

If you want to get away from debt, must be discipline. Try limit your expenses now.

Apply MBB, PBB, AEON, AFFIN bank CC.
The worst case would be each bank only give u 10k credit limit or even less.
But at least you got 34k now, MBB AFFIN (90%) and PBB AEON (80%) which convert to MBB (750) AFFIN (833.33), PBB & AEON (1333.33). Totally repayment per month would be 2916.66 and at the same time you still owe CITIBANK RM18k.

I am assume if you only want 0% balance transfer program, it will not working good.
In order to totally cover all your citibank debt right now without any more interest incuring,
all the 4 bank together must give u 15k credit limit or plus/minus between bank. And repayment would be around 7375 which is way too imposible for you.

CL BT Repayment
Mbb 15000 13500 1125 (12 months)
Affin 15000 13500 2250 (6 months)
Aeon 15000 12000 2000 (6 months)
PBB 15000 12000 2000 (6 months)
51000 7375

Given that you only available to fork out 2.4k a month, I would actually recommend you
1) borrow money from family cover all debt
2) personal loan (https://www.imoney.my/personal-loan) 50k PL repayment 2.4k monthly for 2 years. (most easy way)
3) personal loan + BT (the smart way.. haha)

So say my statement comes out on the 10th of every month, when my next statement comes out on 10th Dec, that will be the 1st instalment to pay. Right?
*
QUOTE(adele123 @ Dec 5 2014, 04:16 PM)
Yup.

Oopss.. sorry.. I thought MBB statement is the same for everyone. 28 of every month.
adele123 is right. based on statement date.

BT is a deep black hole...

I kinda regretted now to start BT-ing... laugh.gif
This shall be my first and last BT. laugh.gif
*
BT for discipline people = free cash atm
BT for non-discipline people = black hole > more debt > bankruptcy...

if u do not keep track on ur financial standings, better don't BT.
Less than 5 BT still manageable, if have plenty of BT, u need to calculate properly how much u owe for each back, if not u will overspend ur future money and lead to financial crisis.
hahaha~~

I told them, not to double pay me. However, I only received one call so far. So should be safe I guess?
I will tell them to only process one, will email them now. sweat.gif
Yeah, very dangerous. Though I'm pretty OK when comes to financial management but I don't want to spend so much of future money. sweat.gif
Scary, no more BT...  laugh.gif
*
If they overpay u, u just cash out the money and transfer back to Aeon, call them to inform them u want to do early settlement.. No penalty. smile.gif
In fact, for each BT, u earn Aeon Points which is pretty good smile.gif

Ah, yes. That sounds doable as well. laugh.gif
But just afraid Maybank doesn't refund me. tongue.gif

OK can do early settlement, sounds good. I may clear all after CNY. tongue.gif
*
No worries. Maybank 100% can refund you the overpayment back to CASA.

I was thinking maybe I can do early settlement once hit max credit limit, reset back to 0, then BT again, den reset.. the cycle goes on.. It will be good, since got free aeon points I assume?
But, I'm getting lazy to submit BT form.. plus PBB MBB 0% BT ending soon.. seems like not worth the hassle.. LOL

QUOTE(victorywp @ Dec 15 2014, 10:12 PM)
there are 2 types of bt:
1) the bt instalment amount will be posted into a dummy cc account (created solely for this bt purpose) with its own unique 16-digit cc number
2) the bt instalment amount will be posted into your existing cc account join with your current cc outstanding

if it's (1) then you may pay the minimum amount every month and until the final month you pay one shot all outstanding and you still enjoy the 0%.

if it's (2) then you need to pay the whole statement amount as paying minimum amount will cause your existing cc account to be imposed with interest
*
Sorry, I'm confused on your 1st BT.
Even I BT to a dummy CC (0 debt inside), I still have to make monthly repayment based on the Balance Transfer Amount right? If 3k for 6 month, means 500 per month.
If I only pay the MIN amount (lets say RM50), the remaining 450 balance will be charged financial interest right?
If I not mistaken, for all BT, I need to pay the assigned monthly repayment.

it depends on the rules set by the bank on the bt for dummy cc.  there's one only starts charging the interest if you unable to clear after your term (6 months or 12 months), and provided you pay at least the minimum amount every month.

QUOTE(peri peri @ Dec 16 2014, 09:14 AM)
my experience with CIMB BT, u just need to pay the minimum repayment only and not the proportion installment.

Says

CIMB BT 6 months for rm6000

u can pay at rm50 for 1st month and repeating the same until the 5th month then last month pay full at rm 5750. No interest charged
unlike maybank.

already tier at RM1000 at each month. Says if u pay min rm50 only, then finance charges is applicable.
*
Thanks for clarification. I remember I read some place on GenXGenYGenZ about this, but not sure how it works.
Since my only BT from MBB, PBB and Aeon, All of them require full monthly installment repayment. smile.gif

Actually must do in M2U, cannot do in branch. My parents who are not IT literate, wanted this account too but were refused in the branch. They told them this must be done in M2U...

Anyway, just called Maybank for the overpayment... She wasn't that friendly and kept saying I cannot get back the full amount paid by AEON. sad.gif She said must deduct the unbilled transactions and only pay me the balance.
After trying to convince her for a while, she said will apply for me but subject to management's approval and yes she told me 8 working days and I stayed calm about this. laugh.gif

Do you think I will get back the full amount? sad.gif

I told her the bill is not generated yet and it will only due in mid of next month, I may need the money for other purposes...
*
Most of the time (based on my past experience), they will transfer back the excess payment after deducted with current outstanding amount.
Not sure whether they can actually did that (transfer full amount), because this is not what overpayment meant.

For my case the CS asked me which amount and i said the full amount which is the balance statement value itself.
Initial the CS did tell the another figure which i think after deduction on the unbilled transaction.

Anyway lucky for me to get full refund
*
seems a lot of people getting full refund. good news too smile.gif
I thought above 10k withdrawal, we need to provide proof of payment?
So, I always withdraw amount less than 10k to prevent hassle..

QUOTE(brotan @ Jan 8 2015, 09:29 AM)
just to add further clarification on this

if cl = 12k
total outstanding (from previous BT + normal swipe) = 5k

available credit = RM 7k

max available for BT = RM 5.6k (80% on RM7k)
*
Based on my understanding and experience, the max available BT is always based on YOUR Credit Limit, not available credit balance.

If CL = 12k, your max amount for BT is always 80% of 12k which is 9.6k.
If you have spend 5k previously, your new BT balance would be 4.6k (9.6k - 5k).

Nevertheless, nowadays seems that banks did not follow that exactly. Even TnC mention max 80% of CL for BT, i still available to get more than 80%.

based on my experience (maximising both), aeon and mbb.

so now you may tell us which banks are not.
*
My experiences are same with victorywp.
I'm also curious which banks are not.
Even PBB is working that way.
Anyway, nothing much to argue about BT amount UNTIL you request it urself then you will see it.
Just BT whatever amount you like, approve or not leave it to bank. Why must bother yourself to calculate?

hi, i m thinking to do MBB 0% BT.. some noob question to ask.
1)it state that 0% and 3% fee waived, so it is actually BT at NO CHARGES right? (bcos i heard someone is being charged b4)
2) within the 12 mths installment period, can i make more payment or settle it after few months?
*
http://www.maybank2u.com.my/mbb_info/m2u/p.../PRO-Promotions

1, yes. it will be waived. Make sure you submit the application using this form. http://www.maybank2u.com.my/WebBank/BT090914_AppForm.pdf

2. http://www.maybank2u.com.my/WebBank/BT090914_faq.pdf

Is there any early settlement fee charged if I perform early settlement within the payment period?
No early settlement fee will be charge.
All outstanding monthly instalments together with the interest/management fee shall
become immediately due and payable.

You are the one get more confuse.

You said the BT amount maintained at 80% of CL
How can u get more BT amount approved for more than 80% of CL?

I never said the BT amount depend only on available balance.

I repeat again here
Actually, balance transfer amount allow depend on credit limit and/or available balance.
That why the BT amount can be higher or lower than 80% of credit limit.

Example,
Credit card with credit limit RM10000

1. No spend on swipe,
Balance transfer amount allow = 80% from credit limit = RM8000

2. Swipe RM1000 before BT
Balance transfer amount allow = RM7200 or RM8000 depend which bank

3. Swipe RM5000 before BT
Balance transfer amount allow = RM4000 or RM5000 depend which bank
(See this example, it depend on available balance)

4. Swipe RM10000
Balance transfer amount allow = RM0

For those want to know how to get more than 80% balance transfer, u can pm me.
