Hi all LYN forummers
Im a non-Malaysian living here as a student
Recently i felt the need to buy a used car (Preferably a proton Gen2)
The problem is i know nothing about the procedure in Malaysia and i would like to know a few things
For Example:
1). What you need to watch out for when buying the car (for example taxes, paint, car theft)
2. how to check if the car is not under bank installments or loan by previous buyer
3. how to transfer the car to my name and how much is the expected transfer fee? (say a 2006 Gen2)
4. I hear some people say things like "road tax", "Refinance inspection Transfer" , "After Delivery, Coverage Warranty
Period" what do they mean and how do i check the taxes are paid
5. How to check if documents are original or duplicate?
6. lastly any additional advice or information you guys want to give me?
P.S i know how to check if car got accident or not and everything mechanically and body is good or not
THANKS A LOT IN ADVANCE YEAH

1. Before buying the car will be needed to go through PUSPAKOM inspection meaning the car must be in safe condition to drive. You can check the car summons through MYEG website.
2. If the car is under loan, u and the owner must go to bank. Owner have to ask the bank for early settlement amount. let say the remaining loan amount is 10k but the owner sell price is 20k. U must give the owner 10k. Another 10k u can settle to the bank. There are some sorts of letter saying that u buy the car from the owner provided by the bank or the owner. Not really sure. This is the case when u buy by cash. If u wanna loan, need to submit ur loan for the car u gonna buy 1st and wait until approve.
3. if the car is under loan, the original grant is with the bank No chance u will get duplicate grant. If the car is fully paid when u apply loan the bank want the original grant with them no chance also. Transfer fee I think not expensive.
4. Name transfer must go JPJ. Once your loan approved u will get grant copy. There are documents u and previous owner have to fill. Done fill the docs go JPJ or u can use runner easier. The fee is around RM300.
5. Foreigner can loan max 70% if not mistaken.
I might not giving u all the answers but I think enough for u to have an idea on this matter. Good luck.
