Well... it DOES make the player use up it's reading lens quicker. as most CD-R have too thin a top layer, causing the lens to overpower to read the discs, hence the lens would be used up faster than a regular audio CD

This is for CD-R, not too sure about those pirated CDs

Black CD-R are better in terms of for audio use not exactly because they actually sounded better, but it's bcoz they won't have instances of the laser overpowering due to the light and transparent CD-R material. Have tested back to back on my own car, same CD Image, burned at the same speed from the same PC and same CD-R drive, the black CD-R(Sonix or something like that) seemed to be easier to track compared to the normal CD-R(Imation), instances like turning off the player and continue later, the Black CD-R actually reads instantly just like original CDs, but the Imation normal CD-R would take some reading and some noises before it usually would continue. And note that my player is still VERY new.
