cowithgun you mentioned that flashing factory image will not lose data or apps?

I am already using a custom lollipop by syko so it's fine, but if my friend's N4 is coming from PA Kitkat ROM, can still dirty flash the factory image w/o clearing data?

Just caches will do?
*
I THINK it will still work.

After flashing factory image, everything in /system (ROM) and /boot (kernel) are gone and replaced by factory image. The new factory image will work perfectly even if /data is totally empty.

So, if we keep the /data (remove the -w para), all your app and setting should still work. In fact, don't even need to clear cache since first time boot, Lollipop will convert all into ART.

If you have App that depend on PA ROM, that app will fail. in that case, need to uninstall the app / change launcher, etc.

Recommended course of action:

The essential:
1. Backup whole phone (via TWRP/CWM/Android backup)
2. Store backup into PC

The experiment (now, don't mind if those goes crazy):
3. flash factory image and keep data

Phone should boot into lollipop normally with all data and settings.

Anything goes wrong, restore!

ps: never really try any custom ROM before, so, i cannot tell for certain smile.gif in theory, it will work! cheers

quick question to those running on lollipop (official rom)
does your face unlock crash after setting up?
does your google keep widget crashes when selecting which account to sync?

upgraded my n4 last night, and when i add the google keep widget, it would ask me which account to sync with, once selected it crashes out. same goes to to the face unlock (smart lock) crashes out after setting up the face recognition
*
- tested the Smark Unlock / Face unlock in Lollipop. No crash.
- added a keep widget to home screen but didn't really test selecting account to sync. no crash.
- 100% stock atm

Will it work with Nexus 5? Quite a few other users also having issues not detecting  mad.gif
*
no problem with my Mac but Win8 cannot detect it.

i solved that by adding the new Hardware_Ids into Nexus 4 driver.

1. Download Nexus 4 driver
- https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repositor...ver_windows.zip
2. Extract, edit android_winusb.inf. Add a new nexus 4 section into the file. This file has 2 important section:
[Google.NTx86] and [Google.NTamd64] for 32 / 64 windows respectively. You can add the "nexus 4" into both section. Add these:

CODE
;Google Nexus 4
%SingleBootLoaderInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_4EE7
%CompositeAdbInterface%     = USB_Install, USB\VID_18D1&PID_4EE7_0228

The "USB\VID_18D1&PID_4EE7" is the new Hardware_Ids for your nexus 4. You can get this from Device Manager->Unknown Nexus 4->Details->Hardware Ids

Save the file

3. Install this into your Windows. Since you modify the driver, Windows will prevent you from installing it. You need to disable Driver verification. Follow these steps:

http://www.howtogeek.com/167723/how-to-dis...signed-drivers/

After boot into Windows mode that allow unverified driver, install the driver by Right click, Update driver in Device Manager.

Remember to reboot your PC back to normal.

Voila! "adb devices" working agian. thumbup.gif

ps: win8 stop detecting my n4 after i install lollipop... so, if u haven't upgrade, may be different problem...

First night after install lollipop, lost 10% battery during sleep.

After a few days, seem all the sync and scan finally settle down.

Last night only lost 2% battery during sleep. smile.gif

Using Google Now Launcher.

ps: even though i m on stock kernel. it does seem better battery life than my heavily under-volting kernel previously... no specific measuring just general observation.

What do you mean? My phone is always sync with my gmail account, etc.

But in the first 24 hours after install lollipop (and using Google Now Launcher), the sync was running in the background for 5 hours which i get from battery historian:

cowithgun, i just run the battery historian, notice there are full bar at audio running 4 hour. means this is the one which cause wakelock rite? how to detect what audio is running? same as wifi running
*
yup i have that "audio" running all the time as well. that is good indicator that is the culprit. but other process can cause wake lock too. the graph is easy to get an overview of all the processes and their time of usage.

you can get the actual time where "audio" really causes the wake lock by opening the "bat-stat.txt" file.

apparently, most of those process (including audio) disappeared after awhile. I ran the battery historian again today (4th day). the audio and phone scanning is now almost all gone.

Anyone else experiencing (~1 second) delay when you press to call someone in Dialer Speed Dial?

Look like a few other people also experiencing the same issue:

Official Lollipop is suffering memory leaking problem(the longer you use it without restart, the lagger it is), I recommend sykopompos version. More stable than official ones, and those minor problems are patched.

i don't have this memory leak issue...

ps: i also don't feel any lag even after days of usage. but good to check the memory if you are experiencing something like this....

My free RAM around 736mb

Dont feel any significant lagging...

How i can check if there any leaking memory issue?
*
QUOTE(annoymous1234 @ Nov 28 2014, 11:54 AM)
u already have the issue..
*
High RAM usage not necessary mean memory leak. It could simply mean many memory hungry app. It's no big deal as long as there is no noticeable lag, or background process closed by itself, etc.

If you wanna find out if there is memory leak, try observe the memory usage over time, say after 1 or 2 days without reboot. If memory usage keep increasing you may have that issue.

This is my phone over 24 hours. I have over 20 app running, never close any of it. Smooth as hell. smile.gif

Having some issue after my gf update to Lollipop.

1) Why is the network symbol on top always having the '!' mark? It's not like there's no network or what, I tried using her phone to call my phone, it went through.

That simply mean no data connection via 3g, etc. Can still call.

2) Turning on Wifi is really troublesome now, not matter how i try, either thru the setting or thru the pull down symbol, after i tap on Wifi, it takes like a long time to scan for wifi network, and sometimes it crashes too with message 'Setting takes too long to load, force close', something like that, then when I reenter the wifi page, it successfully scanned all the wifi network.

I got stronger signal in lollipop. FC is not acceptable. Not sure what's wrong.

3) Oh, btw the wifi icon on top after connecting got the ! symbol on it too.  sweat.gif

Mean connected to WiFi but no internet. Usually problem with your AP or you need to login via captive portal, etc.

Any1 experienced this before? Btw my gf did OTA update. If prob persist, I might wanna do a clean flash for her by wiping dalvik cache n everything.

edited,

seems like any ppl suffering same prob.

Under-volting using previous setting in Kitkat seem work just fine. Already a few days, no a single FC or reboot.

As soon as that got out of the way, I optimized Lollipop for performance. Managed to get 29k Antutu score brows.gif As far as I know, this is the highest (even in XDA) without OC. tongue.gif

Attached Image Attached Image

ps: correction: second highest for Nexus 4... sad.gif as i just seen someone got 29871. Personally, I am not admitting defeat since that guy turn f-sync off! You can verify that all my individual score are mostly higher except Storage I/O. I know he has f-sync turn off since my Storage I/O is just 564 but his score is 2573! Turning f-sync off has risk of losing data and might corrupt your file system. I optimise phone for speed but not in the expense of reliability. blush.gif

never mind i got it now. dont say im lazy man.. u r not here with me, u have no idea how many tabs in firefox i have open finding a solution. I run flash.all but error, use wug toolkit check drivers ok, but when booting it keeps saying fastboot not found. finally i manual flash it again.

I'm just saying, ios is no doubt less confusing, I own a ipad and I did restore many times when updating ios, its way much easier than this. to begin with, apple don't even need so much driver like android adb and what fastboot stuff. flame me all u want its just my opinion
*
you are lazy. tongue.gif if you understand the process, it will only takes minutes. but u choose to be lazy. doing it without understanding and screw up. cool2.gif

other than that, if you cannot comprehend custom ROM stuff, stick with stock Android ROM. use the "factory reset" in Android. just as easy as in iOS. brows.gif

Android, and particularly Nexus, perhaps is not for the like of you.

Begone!

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

ps: u know why iOS don't have this kind of problem? right! because there is no custom ROM for iOS!

I have been using Whatapp and Google Fit recently. Kind of worry about the impact on the battery. Seem like it is still OK. This is taken after 24 hours. Look like I can maintain charging N4 once every 2 days. tongue.gif

With 5.01 released, there is newer kernel code as well. Time for recompiling!
