Well actually since we have great devs back in XDA, I've been using lollipop for 2 months already since developer preview > N6 dump.

I have bragged to enough samsung and xiaomi fanboys. Now the official one just make it more official, the date doesn't really matter already haha

One thing I don't understand why Google still stick the old launcher in this @@...... Even Nexus 5 also ditch gallery in favor of the photos.
*
because the factory images or AOSP is =/= OTA.

AOSP is for OEMs, devs or phone companies to built their customized ROMs. Therefore all google apps are not there (Google Now Launcher, Photos are all considered google apps) because OEMs can put their own apps like Samsung TouchWiz apps.

cowithgun you mentioned that flashing factory image will not lose data or apps?

I am already using a custom lollipop by syko so it's fine, but if my friend's N4 is coming from PA Kitkat ROM, can still dirty flash the factory image w/o clearing data?

Just caches will do?

I THINK it will still work.

After flashing factory image, everything in /system (ROM) and /boot (kernel) are gone and replaced by factory image. The new factory image will work perfectly even if /data is totally empty.

So, if we keep the /data (remove the -w para), all your app and setting should still work. In fact, don't even need to clear cache since first time boot, Lollipop will convert all into ART.

If you have App that depend on PA ROM, that app will fail. in that case, need to uninstall the app / change launcher, etc.

Recommended course of action:

The essential:
1. Backup whole phone (via TWRP/CWM/Android backup)
2. Store backup into PC

The experiment (now, don't mind if those goes crazy):
3. flash factory image and keep data

Phone should boot into lollipop normally with all data and settings.

Anything goes wrong, restore!

ps: never really try any custom ROM before, so, i cannot tell for certain smile.gif in theory, it will work! cheers

Thanks man, I'll tell my friend about it.

Oh ya anyone managed to get L Camera by PKMX working on nexus 4. On syko's Frank 9.1 it still cannot work, but I heard it is working in pure AOSP..

Anyone else experiencing (~1 second) delay when you press to call someone in Dialer Speed Dial?

Look like a few other people also experiencing the same issue:

I have that delay too, no matter which lollipop ROM I use.

After pressing the dial button or speed dial, it needs about 1-2 seconds to actually dial it.

Using vel0city ROM now, v2 for lollipop has been released. The ROM is private and the forum is closed for registration. It is super faaaaaast with some minimal but cool features. It is even faster than sykopompos's frank ROM.

Edit: looks like the dev removed all download links.. Waiting

Almost 2 years using my Nexus 4 (bought 2013 January) and never used any SP and case since then. Still going strong and no scratch on my screen.

Dropped couple of times but just the side frame got scratched, not the screen itself. Totally worth the experience not having SP because the glass is so smooth to touch.

Yikes, some ppl pissed velocity's dev off and he took down the forum and all downloads (seems like closing the project).

Now where do I find such fast ROM with awesome features..

Can you summarize the story?
I feel like the story will be another dev having pms story.
*
Velocity is a private ROM that the dev only build and share inside the private forum. He prohibit sharing to XDA or any other places.

Then there are ppl who ask really stupid questions that pissed him off, and eventually one guy even shared the private testing folder publicly and made him infuriated and I think that's why the forum is totally closed now.

Woah.. How do you keep the screen scratchless? I rarely used my phone on the move with it in pocket at all times and there are hairline scratch on it blink.gif
*
I don't specifically take care of it. I put it anywhere: pocket, sling bag, car cup holder, etc. And yet almost 2 years without any scratch on the screen. only one super tiny 1mm hairline scratch which needs to take effort to find it.

What's the reason for the dev to choose such development way? Pretty sure some users will cite GPL violation.

C'mon this 21st century. Nothing is private. He really expect users to keep the ROM files private?
This sounds like supercurio case last time.
*
No idea, he has his own set of principles.

I don't respect his way of keeping it private, but such a shame that his builds are really rock solid and super fast. I am reluctant to switch to any other builds now because it just feels like how it should be on my phone despite I am a flashaholic :/

Hahaha, not going to laugh at you annoymous1234 but this iOS-or-android thing is so old.

If your intelligence cannot handle rooting and customizing android, just be gone. Go play with stock iOS or jailbreak huhu.

There's no point to compare lol, we're happy campers of nexuses and I never even need to use toolkits like WUG or CF autoroot. ADB, TWRP and custom roms are already super easy to use and flash my way.

Just go and buy your IP6+ already biggrin.gif

Btw @cowithgun, how you manage to have such flat line in your battery. Do you even use your phone actively? lol

noob question here, we need to pay for the RM16 franco kernel app to configure setting to save battery? trying my best to make my battery last, haha... not enough even after greenify
*
You can just use trickster MOD or Synapse+UKM to do that... Franco kernal app is good looking and all material but it doesn't really offer better functions that trickster MOD.

It has per-app mode when paired with franco kernel though, but I don't need it and I already ditched franco kernel haha
