sounds like stains or maybe tartar, best to get it checked at a dental clinic, sometimes some areas maybe be hard to reach and not effectively cleaned causing accumulation of stains.

tartar are usually hard and yellowish, brownish and they form near your gum lines on top of your tooth surface

Decay are usually soft and and brownish and darkish and usually inside your tooth.

Hard to tell by just seeing, a dentist has to probe and feel for it.

I have just been recommended to do braces and was quoted RM7k cheapest all the way up to RM25k for the 'wireless' braces. What is the market price for braces? Just wanna compare.

generally in the market, conventional metal braces ( those with rubber rings) hovers around rm5k, the self ligating ones ( most ppl refer as Damon ) goes to 6.5k to 7k.

wireless ones are clear braces/ clear aligners ( invisalign most common brand ), starts from 18k depending on your case severity.

having said that, experienced practitioners or specialist will charge higher rate as well.

Thanks for the reply. I went to the clinic in Bangsar to ask about tooth implant procedure to replace my missing tooth. It turned out that my case is not suitable for implant and the dentist recommended me to wear braces to close the gap.

I see. I hope you got a clear explanation from the dentist on your case and you understand how the treatment will help you.

I still need to read up more on braces before taking the plunge😀. First thing, do you have recommendations where to do braces in KL/PJ? Is it necessary to have it done by a specialist orthodontist over a general practitioner?

My teeth are not perfectly straight but they are not very crooked either. Other than the gap caused by the broken tooth, i can actually live with my current teeth.

My bet is that you consult a few dentist and get a second opinion on whether you need braces. Most importantly it is for you to understand what you need it.

Not really necessary to have it done by an specialist. I do know of experienced general practitioner who has done much more cases than a specialist.

I can recommend someone for you to see in PJ area. Do check you pm.
