Subang Jaya (commonly called "Subang" by locals) is a suburban city in the Klang Valley, Selangor, Malaysia. It is located about 20 km west from the Kuala Lumpur city centre. It comprises the southern third district of Petaling, making it the 5th most populous city in Malaysia. Subang Jaya consists of SS12 to SS19, Bandar Sunway, USJ, Putra Heights and Batu Tiga. The city is governed by the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ), which also governs other areas of the Petaling district under Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, Puchong and Seri Kembangan.

Subang Jaya was originally a township of Petaling Jaya. However, due to the high population and rapid developments, it has earned its own municipality. The city was developed by Sime UEP Berhad, the property development arm of the Malaysian conglomerate Sime Darby. The site was formerly a rubber plantation called Seafield Estate under the municipality of Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya. Construction work for the development of Subang Jaya began in 1974 and was concluded in 1988. Upon the completion of Subang Jaya on the same year, Sime UEP began clearing land for the development of USJ. In 1999, Sime UEP began the development of Putra Heights.

In 1997, Subang Jaya was granted the status of a municipality. Hence, the local authority was transferred from the Majlis Perbandaran Petaling Jaya (MPPJ) (Petaling Jaya Municipal Council) to Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) (Subang Jaya Municipal Council). The MPSJ holds local government authority not only in Subang Jaya, but also USJ, Putra Heights, Batu Tiga, Bandar Sunway, Puchong, Bandar Kinrara, Seri Kembangan, Balakong, and other parts of Petaling district. Subang Parade, Empire Subang, Sunway Pyramid and the hypermarket chain Aeon Big Subang serve as the main shopping attractions around Subang Jaya city centre. In adjacent township of Bandar Sunway, there is the popular Sunway Lagoon, an amusement water theme park which is a popular landmark across the nation.

Oh yes, my source of Archie comics.

Good times....will always be a proud Subangian. I always believed this place will be awesome one day so made investments in a couple of properties about 7 years back and not disappointed. Also, its great to not have the Federal government in charge of this place. tongue.gif

moved to subang jaya, when people said to my parents "gila ka? situ hutan kelapa sawit je, kenapa duduk dalam hutan?"

my house price was rm100k, now it's rm1million

now lots of people want to move here, and can't afford to buy a house here too.

and ss15 was always a peaceful place, buy breakfast at the square (now market sudah pindah situ) nasi ayam kak laily or nasi lemak. Seng hup lamp shop was there, there was no traffic light, all roundabouts. not many cars last time. it was when kesas was completed then suddenly jadi gila the traffic here.

History repeats intself presently. New township are being shunned due to proximity and face problem. Everybody want cheap housing around Klang Valley as near as possible to KL and claimed the rest as "not for human live one".

I moved to SJ around 25 years ago, that time, still no USJ, kelapa sawit all around, people complained it was 'very far' from KL, lel.

Remembered there was only some traffic, and the roundabout near SS19, subang parade was the go place to shop around.

Anyone got pics of the town's progress from years back? Nostalgia.

I remembered being taken to subang by my Uncle and Aunt on their vespa, almost 30 years via jalan sg buloh I think.. halfway lotsa forest/palm trees and there's a small river where I stopped to dip my feet and play with the water there. At the very end of the road there's a T junction with a huge tree nearby (and the racetrack shouldn't be far)

Nostalgia.

Nowadays Sunway area can call Little Jakarta.

1 because of the bad traffic jam, another because the mall seems to be populated by Indonesian Chinese students. Rich bastards. All studying in Sunway.

And across the NPE there is Mentari which is also a Little Indonesia-all the Indon stalls.

Been here for 23 years now, it's a great place but sadly many Subang people have moved out over the last few years due to congestion.

There's hardly any greenery around too besides the Subang lake sad.gif

the A&W at the old 3K center(now closed) and thew one at taipan also sucks big time IMHO. I think the upper management kinda clueless on how to manage a good business lah. u see the taipan branch one. staff also clueless most of the time. damn long queue.the old 3K center one even though 24 hours but somehow always don't have enough staff + waffle will take forever to cook.

the better one is at hentian seremban towards JB.

There is no LDP prior to 1998 lah. That time,
- on Central PJ side, there was a dual carriage way road from KDU all the way to Kelana Jaya & ended up joining fed highway at sg way ( without the bridge). On Sunway side, the road is a dead end till the current Caltex stn b4 the toll plaza. Sunway was so peaceful and quiet prior to 1998.

-on Northern PJ side, the road after KDU or after Uptown Damansara was just a narrow kampung road i.e Jln Damansara all the way to Kepong - yeah toll free and jam for sure.

-on puchong side, there was no road linking Sunway to Puchong - didn't exist at all. The main road was the okr - kinrara till puchong perdana ( which was upgraded to 2 lanes in mid 90's. After puchong Perdana, it was a tiny jalan Puchong lama linking from Hicom shah alam to puchong and thereafter a very winding narrow road thru Pulau Meranti and never ending narrow road with a branch towards dengkil & another towards kajang..really narrow prior to yr 2000!

RM 130K can't even buy brand new Accord nowadays

anyway UEP house build quality was quite good back then. you can't even hear your neighbour's voice when you are in the house.

nowadays SD house build quality is like... meh? roof leaking is a norm, burst internal piping, cracked... haih

the culprits are the traffic lights at the giant and also at the Da Men . plus the long wait at the summit usj traffic lights.

but yes, after lrt was completed the traffic has lesser a lot .
but I noticed USJ also got plenty of old people ... like me. smile.gif

When I was small my uncle and aunt always bring me to Subang via jalan Sg Buloh.... nothing but kelapa sawit too. I remembered halfway there's a small river many ppl stopped and wash legs play water LOL. At the end of the long road.. got a T junction. We're there! Missed going to Subang race track see horsie.

QUOTE(thelonely @ Sep 9 2014, 09:06 AM)
moved to subang jaya, when people said to my parents "gila ka? situ hutan kelapa sawit je, kenapa duduk dalam hutan?"

my house price was rm100k, now it's rm1million

now lots of people want to move here, and can't afford to buy a house here too.

and ss15 was always a peaceful place, buy breakfast at the square (now market sudah pindah situ) nasi ayam kak laily or nasi lemak. Seng hup lamp shop was there, there was no traffic light, all roundabouts. not many cars last time. it was when kesas was completed then suddenly jadi gila the traffic here.
*
Same goes for Puchong, Sungai Buloh soon after.... and recently Kajang , Semenyih , Rawang.

The same mentality when young people today always wanted property nearer to city center.. and refuse to look anywhere beyond that. Then complain why house price expensive.

the culprits are the traffic lights at the giant and also at the Da Men . plus the long wait at the summit usj traffic lights.

but yes, after lrt was completed the traffic has lesser a lot .
but I noticed USJ also got plenty of old people ... like me. smile.gif

Traffic light is the main culprit, can't help with it but u have another alternative road via ss19. Last time no public transport to KL or PJ except for bus. Now u have LRT which lessen the car coming from Putra Height and USJ area.

I think the first phase is USJ 2 or 3 which launched in year 1989 or later, house handed over on 1991 if not mistaken. I roughly know it when i saw previous house owner S&P with the developer.

Of course, back in 20-30 years ago many purchaser age around 30+, a lot of them retire and u can see them at the park. But still got youngster staying around there for the purpose near the folks.

FMHO I think even up to last 10 years traffic was quite bad around USJ. always stuck like forever in front of the summit traffic lights.

but yes, usj 2 got lots of youngsters too.

anyway

Summit USJ after renovation looks fresher, last time the exterior design too old fashion scare cannot compete with damen. But inside still not much change, like other old time shopping mall eg. time square many small boutiques which i dk how they survive for so long..

After puchong Perdana, it was a tiny jalan Puchong lama linking from Hicom shah alam to puchong and thereafter a very winding narrow road thru Pulau Meranti and never ending narrow road with a branch towards dengkil & another towards kajang..really narrow prior to yr 2000!

ah.Sungai Way free zone industrial area.got Monsanto back in the 70s. Seaport Estate aka kelana jaya area was rubber tree plantations back then before 70s. the road was quite small back then towards taman tun then towards bukit lanjan and kepong , quite dark to drive around at night.

sunway? used to be called petaling tin area. you can see the whole place full of white sand

like this

user posted image

from simpang ampat at monsanto-kontena nasional you will pass another simpang at kontena nasional-old klang road then straight till dead end at the current caltex station before the puchong toll plaza. this was in early 80s

haha usj resident here, proud to be subangites, tho i not sure why XDD

Although a lot people claim subang jam, not for hooman live one, but i feel ok bcoz if you skip the peak hour as well if you know how to skip the jam route & take alternative route it is pretty ok

personally think that subang jaya is a nice place to live in, compare to other township in selangor.

The yet to be developed Subang Jaya can be seen in the background (starting from 1:38:12 - 1:40:50) of a P Ramlee film called Sesudah Subuh that was released in 1967, as the family rushed towards the airport from the road that would later become part of federal highway. The old terminal 1 of Subang Airport and part of what would become KGNS can also be seen in the film.

Yup. To be precise, the actual location of Damansara is actually surrounding the current F&N factory / Tiong Nam area. That was the last inland klang river jetty before goods trf from boats to lorries via Bt 3 to KL.

sorry necro. this is true though. if see on a map, sungai damansara actually passed through more shah alam area than places with damansara name in it. and that dont count yet anak-anak sungai damansara
