After reading the ringgitplus promo,  came straight to ocbc DU to deposit 10k for 12months.  Hopefully i am in the first 200.
*
I just did the same, but it was weird that when I entered my new IC number, the Ringgit Plus sign-up form
did not recognize my new IC number, then I entered my old IC number, then it worked.. doh.gif

Now received email from Ringgit Plus, but no SMS from Ringgit Plus yet..
Don't know how soon can receive SMS.. Did you receive SMS?

QUOTE(gchowyh @ Nov 18 2014, 04:12 PM)
Ya, for sometime I thought AM Bank's service was good though when I went to one of their Customer Service functions, many people complained.

But now is bad. My 'new' RM never contacts me, no more events & there was once when I went to TTDI to do something, she made me wait damn long!
Their priority banking customer service hotline is good though, I get most of my stuff done thru there as far as possible.
*
Few weeks after I had placed my FD with Am bank, I called AM Bank customer service hotline to ask for gift,
AM Bank customer service hotline said would inform to their department, but no news until now..
Ai.. I think I can forget about it lah..

Last time, Citibank lagi "gao lat", when I submitted 2 checks to them on the same day, they placed my
FD in 2 different maturity dates.. doh.gif

Sorry just read your question. I received the SMS a few minutes after completed Ringgitplus signup form. At first it didn't recognise my new ic with the '-' in between so I entered without '-' and was accepted. You need the SMS to show it to OCBC for the deal.
*
No need to say sorry lah..small matter only..

I see..no wonder I was unable to key-in my new IC number.

I just came back from placing RM 10K for 1 year with OCBC this afternoon, OCBC Leng Lui
helped me to fill out a form for the gold coin contest. She said even I received SMS but this
did not mean that I would get the Medklinn Air Steriliser. These 200 Medklinn Air Steriliser are only
available for the first 200 customers nationwide. So, I do not know if I can get it or not..? sad.gif

I think nobody will provide the accurate income info as this question is too sensitive.

Ha ha.. This is true...
OCBC has many young Leng Lui and young Leng Chai staffs..

Yes, after showing the SMS, then need to sign a form for the gold coin contest

I'm ok with income disclosure because it is not an important personal info. I can also simply put any figure.
The problem is the site asked for full name, IC no, Hp no, full address, bal bla bla...
I prefer not to disclose it over the net coz I'm not sure my mobile device is clean from spyware or key logger. Further more ringgit plus is just a blog.
*
I think Ringgit Plus needs the personal info to match with OCBC to make sure you did place the FD.
But I was not required to provide my address on Ringgit Plus site.

pay interest upon maturity just like normal FD.

i wonder how does RinggitPlus know when to stop the promo  hmm.gif

i presume it's based on total registrations in RP since the unit is given by RP, not OCBC.  blink.gif

if this is the case, i might still have a chance to get the unit cuz i registered it on Tuesday (gotten SMS + email); have yet to place the FD in OCBC  (planned to visit tomorrow).
*
You have to place FD first then it is counted, but still no guarantee will get it if you got 200 FDs have
been placed ahead of you.

QUOTE(okuribito @ Nov 20 2014, 09:44 AM)
good question brother. my guess is they won't even if ocbc tells them 200 oredi. why? RP probably gets some sort of commission per registration & probably bonus for successful sign-ups. And if u were OCBC would you tell them to say "200 reached oredi"?

whether u'll get the thing or not, heaven knows. hope u do smile.gif
*
Agree. I feel like this promo is to mislead the depositors so that OCBC can get more FD funds.. Very snake..

First ocbc placement through ringitplus. The gold coin is from Ocbc. Only 10 gold coin. Promote end of Nov.
I think it is not sold out coz I can place FD just now. The gift is from Ringgitplus.

I emailed to ringgitplus and the reply (see below) said it is compounded daily on interest. But Ocbc said it s not. I think Ringgitplus is playing a trick on wording. Interest compounded daily but paid out at maturity date. Since the interest will be paid on maturity, from now till maturity no interest is earn and hence nothing is being compounded?
The reply from Ringgitplus, Diana...

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Yes, your interest earnings will be compounded daily, but will only be paid out at the date of maturity.

If you have any more questions please just reply to this email, we'd love to help you.

Thank you.

hmm.gif I guess Ringgit Plus does not understand the meaning of "compounded daily on interest"..
I do not think Ringgit Plus dares to cheat depositors like this, since this is the mistake they made
and posted this term & condition on website, Ringgit Plus has to honor their word.. biggrin.gif

gsc, please keep your email as proof... biggrin.gif

If like this, hmm.gif ..should we place more FD for this promo? Now the object is to aim for compounded
daily interest; but not the Air Sterilizer..

The MedKlinn Asens Air Sterilizer's N.P is rm599 & Offers at rm389. If qualifies for it, rm10000 FD give returns of rm410+rm389, almost 8%.

QUOTE(bbgoat @ Nov 20 2014, 04:12 PM)
I think the case is due to auto renewal. For the initial depositing, BR system will adjust to next working day for maturity. But after that, on auto renew, it will just go to exactly 1 year later (for yearly renewal). I kena once but as I just asked for new FD cert, so no loss (mature on Sat).  smile.gif
*
Ah Sir Ah Goat, my BR FD will mature on Saturday (6 Dec), but my FD cert printed maturity date is next following Monday (8 Dec),
in this case, will I lose one day interest..?

Ah Boom Sir, as mentioned before, during FD placement, BR system will adjust the FD maturity to next working day. If you calculate the FD interest printed on BR's FD cert., it will show the add'l interest for the non working days. You never check that ?  hmm.gif  hmm.gif
The only issue is upon auto renewal without getting a new cert, as someone commented, BR system is not that "smart". It just auto renew to the exact cycle eg. exactly 1 year later irrespective of the maturity day (working day or not) for 1 year FD.  smile.gif
Okay.. Thank You Ah Sir..I will calculate the interest rate later..

I see.. OCBC creates this differentiation is making sense to me. But my FD cert is printed like this: "Renew principal and interest for the same period at the prevailing interest/profit rate"

If I understand correctly, let say you want to put RM10k into this FD 4.5% promo, you must put RM10k into OCBC savings account first. So effective rate is much lower because total fund is RM20k but only RM10k enjoy 4.5% and the FD is for 3 months only.
*
I just read the OCBC's terms and conditions, you have to put in 50/50 ratio for FD and CASA respectively.

For example, if you put RM 10K for FD to get 4.5%; then you need to put another RM 10K to CASA (select Smart Savers
to get max 3.05%).

So, 4.5% + 3.05% = 7.55% /2 = 3.775% max return for 3 months tenure.

Anyway, this promo has just ended.
Hopefully we can hear more exciting FD promo from OCBC next week... biggrin.gif

Bro, usually banks pay 50% interest for premature withdrawal of FD, but this is on condition that we have to keep
our money in FD for at least 3 months; if less than 3 months, then no interest at all.

It does not make sense to me that bank will not charge back paid interest for premature withdrawal.

Just imagine, bank agrees to pay high interest rate in exchange for your 5 years FD tenure; if suddenly you want
to pull back, this means you are breaching the 5 years FD contract, so by right you will not get the full interest.

Now back to your 3 issues:
First issue: 48 months auto renew to 48 months board rate at 3.35%.
Usually banks will auto renew or roll-over to board rate, board rate means normal rate.
I just checked Am Bank board rates, 48 months is 3.5%.
So, Am Bank is doing it right in this part. This has nothing to do with fair or not fair.
You made a mistake that you did not go to update or withdraw your matured FD.

Second issue: Want to premature withdrawal for 60 months FD
Bro, this is for sure Am Bank will impose a penalty because you do not want to continue
the contract that you have agreed..

Third issue: Am Bank is unable to provide the T&C
I guess it is Am Bank responsibility to provide you the T&C, then you will clear your doubt

1. Bro.. this still need to see the T&C, bank staff could provide wrong info since no black & white from his/her mouth.

2. Get Am Bank to show you the T&C. This is your right and this is Am Bank's responsibility.
About " renewed me on board rate with 48 months by giving me 3.35%..." -----> Bro, this is one of the methods how banks can make money to take advantage from some FD depositors do not have time (or perhaps forget) to withdraw matured FDs
and re-deposit for FD with new promo rate.

Next time, one month before your FDs are matured, please come here to check around the FD promo rates in this thread

QUOTE(jack2 @ Dec 3 2014, 09:31 PM)
Bro, you are right half and wrong half.

When I first entered the FD agreement, yes, the rate given is higher than normal in exchange for 5 years.

However, when the FD matured after 4 years tenure and renewed at board rate 3.35%, do you think 3.35% is still in exchange for 5 years?
*
Bro, I know how you feel... sweat.gif
When auto renew, FD will auto renew to the rate that based on the bank board rate.

Once we auto renew, bank will not give us promo rate; unless we withdraw it and redeposit it
back as fresh fund, then we will get promo rate..

However, when the FD matured after 4 years tenure and renewed at board rate 3.35%, do you think 3.35% is still good in exchange for 5 years? 3.35% is board rate which is not the previous promotion rate.

I will ask for the previous agreement I signed. I know UOB has the term and condition and requested customers to read and sign.

Nevertheless, no matter how the outcome is, I will take out the money and willing to loss the 50% of interest paid and put it to higher offer with 1 year tenure and assume I will put the same for another 3 years with 4% interest. I still gain extra interest if compared to their current 3.35% if I am still continue with them.

Bro..calm down first... rice already cooked and cannot reverse already.. sweat.gif
I suggest you to continue until all FDs are matured then withdraw and redeposit for other new FDs.

The case was handled to the manager as claimed by the offer. I am waiting for the call on how they resolve for me.

I am not sure what I posted 4 years ago here would be the solid proof to support what I was told by the manager and also the call center I called to.

Moreover, if they can't provide me the term and condition I signed for this penalty, they have no right to charge me.

I know you, because I had seen your Chinese signature before..

Calculate the profit and loss first to see it is worth it to do a premature withdrawal.

Good Luck.. Bro, Hope you can get it done smoothly .. thumbup.gif
