Badminton - Wikipedia

Badminton is a racquet sport played by either two opposing players (singles) or two opposing pairs (doubles), who take positions on opposite halves of a rectangular court that is divided by a net. Players score points by striking a shuttlecock (also known as a shuttle, bird, or birdy) with their racquet so that it passes over the net and lands in their opponents' half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. A rally ends once the shuttlecock has struck the floor.

The shuttlecock (or shuttle) is a feathered projectile whose unique aerodynamic properties cause it to fly differently from the balls used in most racquet sports; in particular, the feathers create much higher drag, causing the shuttlecock to decelerate more rapidly than a ball. Shuttlecocks have a much higher top speed, when compared to other racquet sports. Because shuttlecock flight is affected by wind, competitive badminton is played indoors. Badminton is also played outdoors as a casual recreational activity, often as a garden or beach game.

Since 1992, badminton has been an Olympic sport with five events: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles, in which each pair consists of a man and a woman. At high levels of play, the sport demands excellent fitness: players require aerobic stamina, agility, strength, speed and precision. It is also a technical sport, requiring good motor coordination and the development of sophisticated racquet movements.

Basic Badminton Equipment

Uniform

There are few restrictions on the clothing for badminton matches, but players tend to wear short pants and short-sleeve shirts, with flat-soled training shoes. Older regulations – similar to those in tennis – stipulated that clothing had to be 75 per cent white, but this is no longer a requirement of the modern game.

Shuttlecock

The shuttlecock is made of a small piece of cork, coated with leather and 25 to 28cm wide. On its base are attached 16 natural or synthetic goose feathers, forming a cone. It must be a maximum of 70mm in length and 68mm in width, and should weigh between 4.74 and 5.50 grams.

Racquet

Badminton racquets – like their tennis counterparts – have progressed from simple wooden construction to the use of sophisticated lightweight materials such as aluminium, graphite and titanium. They have a round head containing a rigid mesh of synthetic strings for hitting the shuttlecock, a shaft and a non-slip grip. The head can be a maximum of 23cm wide and 29cm long, while the overall length is a maximum of 68cm. It should weigh between 85 and 100 grams.

The court

Badminton matches are played on a court that is 6.1m wide and 13.4m long, with specific markings for singles and doubles matches. The playing area for singles matches is slightly narrower than the court at a width of 5.18m, while the playing area for doubles matches uses the full court width and length. There must be clearance of 2m on all sides, and a ceiling height of 12m for high shots.

The net

The net in the middle of the court is 76cm wide, and is made of a fine mesh of dark-coloured cord, so that it can be seen through, while remaining visible at all times. At the top of the net is a white strip to clarify its position. The net is held rigid by a pair of posts either side of the court, with its top at a height of 1.55m.

Lads, is it true that Protech's shuttles (the black bottle with yellow caps) are no longer as lasting as before? Or the shop owners I went were just trying to push other brands?

And any other brand recommendation for similar product?

Have you used RCL Black No.1 before? It is not good. RCL Black Silver is even better in durability but of course more expensive.

Lads, is it true that Protech's shuttles (the black bottle with yellow caps) are no longer as lasting as before? Or the shop owners I went were just trying to push other brands?

And any other brand recommendation for similar product?
*
That depends on which shop you buy from. The last batch I bought was terrible - each shuttlecock could only last at least 1 match. However, the latest batch which I got from Elin Collection was quite good, as it made till 2 matches, and some even longer.

If you want a better one from Protech though, get the Platinum one (black tube, inside a box) - slightly more expensive than Masterclass (last I saw from Elin it's about RM 62 per tube), but worth it. One word of caution though.... this shuttle can fly VERY FAR, so don't overhit your clears or lobs.

Should be Protech Masterpiece..I think.

I read in a forum in badmintoncentral maybe 6 years back, I remember 1 guy mentioned that when got complaint, Protech will change the shuttles to good one..when no complaint..they will change back to less superior one. Not sure how true it is, but on and off in forum you will notice that Protech shuttle quality sometimes can be very good sometimes can be bad, it depends on your luck.

I would suggest that you go for other brands for the time being until Protech changes back to good one after they see your complaint here.smile.gif

I'm looking for a new pair of shoe, currently wearing nike running shoe to play ny. Recently badminton is my main sports for relaxing other than pool game. So I'm more serious into this and that day i sprained my ankle because the running shoe is too soft on the side.

I have a wide feet, like always i have to buy a size bigger to fit it properly, like Nike running shoe. Yonex SHB 01 is totally out( many wide feet owner sold them immediately). Im looking forward to Victor SH-P9100, looks quite good to me especially the red 1.

I live in SS15, where is the closest to get em and also string my YY NS7700 ??

Dear Sifus...
Been looking at getting either a ZSpeed or VT70..

ZSpeed review tarak hansem..
All complain no feedback and difficult to handle..
I have personally tried a couple of games with that racket, felt good but sibeh alot of mishits (maybe yet to get used to the racket)..
But the weight is an issue, defence suffer and hand feels fatigued after 2games..

VT70 havent the chance to try..
And cant korek any decent reviews on that racket..

Mau tanya sifu sekalian, what do you think of VT70 and ZSpeed?
Will be getting either one really soon..

Recently I tested with my racket NR600 with only one one layer thin Grip. G4... and I grip it till above Cap. So i found conpare with Thick Grip(2 layer of Grip, one Original, the another layer is Karaka Super PU), it more easy to smash and also for any hit... last time when I using Carbonex 21SP special, I like to put 2 layer grip, it let me feel better compare to one layer. anyone can explain why?? what will affected by the grip size?

It's all down to personal preference... Depends whether usually you are familiar with thin or thick "grip"...

On a serious note, thin grip lets you feel the bezel (dont know if this is the correct word) of the grip. But I prefer thicker grip coz otherwise, I cant hold the grip firmly... racket tend to slip off my hand if the grip is too thin...

Read this up... Can always google for your answers...

This is really good thread to be discuss with badminton equipment, I have go through all this thread and last thread for 30 pages, I realized that most ppl here discussed about Yonex rackets, no other brand such as Carlton?? In the other hand, hope there has another Yonex fair for coming soon as I saw you all discuss on last thread. rclxms.gif

Interested with the Yonex jersey also as this is really good deal although is old version.

By the way, anyone using Calton racket?? Planning to buy one

Now even some cheap brands also can make good racket and high tension, then this Carlton has been in the market for so many years and their technology going backward make some fragile racket? the Carlton CEO should fire the R&D department lah.

What should I do now? I am newbie. I tu 24kb because stringer people said it is standard to put 24lb, little did I,know that newbie should have lower tension.

Please advise...

I guess your racket is Yonex. 22lbs is just a recommendation. The stringer did told me like Arc Z Slash max tension is 24lbs for 3u and 25lbs for 2u, player did strung up to 31lbs for more than 5 times. So relax and enjoy.

Bro, group purchase not on rackets, only on strings, grips and socks....

Sunriseclick.com is safe to purchase, as many if us did purchased before, all ship to them safely but a bit delay as during sales time. It took more than 3 weeks to arrive.

Your racket is already RM250. Better add some small items to qualify for free shipping.

My buying experience from sunriseclick has been a pleasant one. My first time purchase. I ordered on Saturday 11+pm. I received my racket on Wednesday 1pm.

Your racket is already RM250. Better add some small items to qualify for free shipping.

My buying experience from sunriseclick has been a pleasant one. My first time purchase. I ordered on Saturday 11+pm. I received my racket on Wednesday 1pm.

Ya will add some small items such as strings, grips.

Thanks for your sharing ya

And for tengster, your question is not noob, but naive; Apacs is UK coz it register the company and office at UK; you also can rent a small office at USA or Japan then register you company at there but make your product at here, Indonesia or China; BTW Li Ning indeed is not a China company also.

Li-Ning Company Limited (Chinese: 李-宁有限公司; Li-Níng Yǒuxiàn Gōngsī) (SEHK: 2331) is a Chinese company which makes athletic shoes and sporting goods. Li-Ning branded products are targeted for consumers who participate in sports such as running, basketball, badminton, football, tennis and fitness. The company endorses a number of athletes and teams, both at home in China and abroad.

The company was founded in 1990 by Li Ning, a former Chinese Olympic gymnast. As of 2007, Li Ning remains the chairman of the company's board of directors.[2]

In 2005, Li-Ning created a joint-venture with French sports apparel company, AIGLE, giving Li-Ning the exclusive rights to be the distributor of AIGLE's products in China for 50 years.[3]

In 2006, Li-Ning posted revenues of US$418 million, and total profits of about US$39 million. As of March 2007, there were 4,297 Li-Ning retail stores.[4] The company directly owns some of the retail stores while others are franchised.

In January 2010, Li-Ning opened its U.S. headquarters and flagship store in Portland, Oregon.

In 2010, Li-Ning released a new logo and a new slogan as part of the 'Revitalization' of the Sports brand.

The official slogan of the company is "让改变发生" "Ràng Gǎibiàn Fāshēng" in Chinese, translated to "Make The Change" in English.

In January 2011, Li-Ning entered into a partnership with Chicago-based Acquity Group[5] to expand its U.S. distribution and brand awareness.

In April 2012, Li-Ning was awarded the highest distinction of "Outstanding Contribution to Quality Standardization Award" at the 3rd National Textile Standardization Technical Committee - Knitwear division's inaugural meeting held in Zhuhai, Guangdong.

In September 2012, Li-Ning signed into a partnership with NBA player Dwyane Wade.

In 2013, The Group recorded revenue of RMB2,906 million, which represents a decrease of 24.6% year-on-year, due to near-term focus on sell-in reductions, inventory clearance as well as store rationalization[6]

Kamsiah terlebih dahulu..

Just got myself a 3U VT70..
Felt more like a 4U in weight..
Super light.. super easy to manoeuvre..
Had 2 sessions with it..

Erm.. timing is abit off for me.. transitioning from APACS..
Could be the flex and head weight abit different..
But am adjusting to the differences with relative ease..

Better headspeed.. better control in front of the net...
Smashes are slightly off due to the timing...
But when i get it right.. felt more solid and sounded great... biggrin.gif

Drop shots are decently sharper..
But defence is alittle sluggish.. shakehead.gif
need more game-hours on the racket before can decide if its suitable for me..

But overall.. for the price I paid..
I think its a well made racket..
Worth every penny if i can get the timing right!!

there you go.. my dua puloh sen..

To immediate answers I can think off. Better blood circulation and keep the muscle intact so that it won't move much as inertia may cause one to be more clumsy....

You see...BPL footballers, NBA b ball players, etc. are wearing them.

Help a friend bought two pieces of Arc 11 from Honly, that time, price is RM 369, now increase to RM 389, but if you buy without string, price will be RM 399, RM 389 is you have to include their stringing service, if your want ultimax 66, have to add RM 35.

Anyway, received the racquet a day after I make the payment, very effective seller. Honly and Elin Collection is highly recommended.

His question is very specific to Asics shoes. But page One also shows the shop names in KL PJ but didn't indicate where can he find good deal for Asics shoes....

Give chansi lah....help him out...tolng menolong. notworthy.gif
*
it shows baddy shops that are reputable and cheap. And from browsing through our past postings he should know that we hunt for baddy shoes no matter asics, yonex or even carlton at these shops...

But like craxors said.. i've should have just kept quiet... whistling.gif

sure feels different...yonex better shoes(high end) sure have power cushion...

better only at insole aspect...

yonex high end + standard insole = protect ur feet

cheap yonex + standard insole = less protect ur feet

cheap indoor shoes + special insole = protect ur feet... smile.gif

No matter how strong you are, whether you play 1 round or 2 round ... if swing technique is wrong, sure will have shoulder pain lor... What's the use of getting stronger but basic technique still wrong?

i think the true is our string tension.....

thursday i string my stiff racket 24-26lbs with 63mm string.....that night after play feel my shoulder pain....

i try remember...i inform stringer string same as before....before that i string 24-26lbs with 65mm string....

so he string 24-26lbs with 63mm string... cry.gif ....

so i confirm with higher tension our shoulder will pain....mine cases is with stiff racket..stiff racket like my willpower 1000 22-24lbs highest i can use...

if yonex ns9900 21-23lbs ideal tension for me...ns9900 more stiff than yang yang willpower 1k....

High end rackets usually can take high tension punya thumbup.gif thumbup.gif i dont think 27lbs on arc11 will break easily unless the user is king of frame mishit then diff story lorr rclxub.gif rclxub.gif but still sometimes depends on stringer, if lousy stringer put high tension then u have to take ur own risk, if ur stringer is good and trusted by u then 27lbs shud be no prob at all icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

It's a one-time reproduction, IIHC. After this, no more blue ones.

Yeah it was. The ONLY racket that came close or even equaling it is the F9.

Did think of getting the 70 E-Tune, but after reading it's a repainted VT 70 with grommets (and that's it), I decide to stop getting one.

BS 12 (3U) - Powerful clears, drop shots and drives. Great netplay (never played better before this).
BS 12 (4U) - Accurate AND ridiculously fast.

F9 - Excellent smashing and powerful clears + drives. Decent netplay.

Never tried a BS12 before... but i know F9 is a great racket for smashing... I give out big smashes with F9. Yesterday games was horrible with my Arc11...

I need to improve my strokes more. I shall not blame my racket for it.....

Surely... because capitalize on the Asian Games victory by Koreans.

RM 460 is MYR code if I believe. But if you don't mind getting a TW code one, it's about RM 380.... if you want, I can tell you...

Hey,

I'm looking to buy a BS12 as well. How much did you pay for yours and from where? Cheapest I've managed to scout for is RM450 inc. strings and grip.
