What is the strength of the Timbalan Setia Johor anyway? Are they actually militarily relevant or are they just like some Imperial guard squad, less than 100 men. Am I close?

Agree...at least a military enthusiasts facility. I'll build the infrastructure like shooting range, courses...along with pistols, rifles, machine guns and older tanks, if possible....all available for use at the facility....with some fees of course.....  rolleyes.gif

Blackwater actually started like that. Building facility for training & hire former soldiers as instructors, somehow got the idea of hiring these former soldiers as security guards, after that is history.

Here security guards full of indon & bangla, most cannot even speak malay. Got any security firm here who actually hire former Malaysian soldiers for 'sensitive' duties?

Wish we could have in budget to upgrade or expand Navy/APMM patrol boat fleet.

I don't like the idea of Malaysia's sea borders protected by 30-40 year old ships, especially when Malaysian sea border is about 70% of total border lines. Even the addition of 10-20 brand new patrol boats would help a lot. The old boats have soldiered on long enough, time to add new blood.

Of course la not for guarding bank. laugh.gif

More like special 'elite' guards for ministry buildings/national assets, military bases & VIP government officials.

We have that one, auxiliary police units. If we follow your concepts, arm specific aux polices unit with special equipment, that would be perfect.

Brilliant! put under official cover (police uniform) but in reality, are private security staffed by former soldiers & SF. I'm sure there are many Malaysian former soldiers or PGA paramilitaries recently retired or have left the service with skills that are still useful.

(But younger age is more preferable la, if 55-year old former soldier uncle may have fitness issues. Still 110% respect the veterans though! rclxms.gif )

China deploys troops in South Sudan to protect oil fields, workers

user posted image

QUOTE
Kampala, Uganda (9 Sept 2014)-China began deploying 700 soldiers to a United Nations peacekeeping force in South Sudan to help guard the country's embattled oil fields and protect Chinese workers and installations, a spokesman for the African nation's president said Tuesday.

The airlift of the Chinese infantry battalion to the South Sudanese states of Unity and Upper Nile, the site of the only operating oil fields still under the control of the central government in Juba, was expected to take several days, spokesman Ateny Wek Ateny said.

While Beijing's troops will operate under U.N. command, their posting to South Sudan marks a sharp escalation of China's efforts to ensure the safety of its workers and assets in Africa and guarantee a steady flow of energy for domestic consumption.

The deployment marks the first time Beijing has contributed a battalion to a U.N. peacekeeping force, U.N. officials said. In March 2013, China sent some 300 peacekeepers to Mali to protect Chinese engineers building a U.N. camp in the town of Gao.

While Beijing's troops will operate under U.N. command, their posting to South Sudan marks a sharp escalation of China's efforts to ensure the safety of its workers and assets in Africa and guarantee a steady flow of energy for domestic consumption.

Extend Lahad Datu airport, I assume for better aircraft coverage of eastern Sabah. On the Hawks, I reckon its for combat Hawks only.

So, the amount 7 bil is for buying new things only then, right?
*
It says 7 bil is for maintenance AND acquisition. So it depends on how much maintenance cost allocated, then balance can be used to buy new stuff.

Oh well, at least we know they did get something

I was predicting at most for 10 new units, so not so far off. But every bit of help for APMM is a significant enough.

oh thx... rm7bil enuf ka? apmm already got their own budget or apart from that rm7bil?

APMM under JPM la bro, not MINDEF. So they don't touch the 17.7 bil allocation. Also they already got RM393 mil funds to buy 7 new boats & 'meningkatkan kecekapan operasi', whatever that means. biggrin.gif

So in summary, APMM get 804 mil budget + 393 mil budget special for buying new 'kapal peronda' and 'meningkatkan kecekapan operasi'. Total about 1.1 bil....

Not that much but pretty decent, if you ask me. hmm.gif

Hmm, I wonder what kind of ship apmm will get. Rm393mil for 7 ship ain't much you know.
*
Better than keep getting 30-40 year old ex-navy ships each year, which is the case before this budget. I don't think previous budget got any special provision for APMM buying new assets.

393mil rm divided by 7  biggrin.gif  probably a bit less cos of meningkatkan kecekapan operasi
*
The 393 mil is special budget for new kapal peronda & the other thing, but if they need any addition to purchase anything I think they can still use some of the 804 mil as additional funds.
