Hawk is awesome.
I would love it been upgrade to have more deadly ground attack.
perhaps addin more gooding sensors to it as well.

But like everyone.. it old

It like asking an old horse to do more work although it a very good old work

QUOTE(Avex @ Nov 11 2014, 08:57 AM)
looking at how China able to even introduce their weapons and sell it to international buyers. We may laugh at China for their weapons, some called it copy, but in fact reverse engineering is so much harder. In a 10 year of Zhuhai show, they have manage to cover so many grounds and produce a full range of weapons.
Even North Korea and Taiwan and South Korea is so much more capable of producing their own weapons.
Compare to these countries, Malaysia looks like some pariah country. 10 year period China did so many things, we produce nothing to even able to sell.
We have the funds, and capability to build an industry, but then it looks like even Indonesia can even do so much better
*
Thre still very large doubt on china weapon quality

Reverse engineering is not necessary better. I think u dont understand that if you copy something, it not necessary better it might look the same but who knows it any better in capabilities.

Look at china jet engine, until now they can't get the copy right and have to take from russia. Anyway, there news they are actually developing a new engine that at least on par with russian equivalent

Btw we are no big in defence budget. I always hope thre military man holding top position in the MoD not someone who know nothing that even a military fans can know better than him

QUOTE(waja2000 @ Nov 11 2014, 09:28 AM)
not really, M-346 can do CAS, traning jet, but lack of EOD, ground sensor, so can't do ISR, SAR day and night etc ...
anyway Hawk already in our airforce it still continue serve other few more year, not more than 5 year have to retired.
Scorpion more role can add in, it have 20k hours life compare to M-346 at 10k life.
i not means other jet like M-346 or Yak130 event L-15 not good, all very good.
i means Scorpion can do more role and mission which attractive to Air-force. also the price and service life.
if our country have MPA, AEW&C, Scorpion jet maybe no much attractive to as.
*
textron also say the engine will be replaced with more powerful variant with the expense of fuel economy. More like the current engine is just for demonstration

Btw the sensor suite does not come with the plane, we have to get it from somewhre to fit into it internal center bay

Pretty much on par with other 8x8s, wonder if our AV8 can mount assault gun or go crazy with howitzers
*
Pernah jumpa enginer sapura. He say can letak without much modifications. Maybe suspension keras sikit and horsepower boost sikit. It ecu control anyway. Structure wise can put as it wide enough but may require some structure reinforcement for the possible large recoil

Masalah... cost. Those minor redesign also take time and cost. How much he wont say. If turret get from china boleh, cheaper? His answer boleh 'but do u trust china engineer enough for them to come help us especially on military hardware?' It just trust issues generally

Second, no interest. I not sure about this but putting a large caliber gun is not something our army want or really interested in for now. Its role is to replace our aging apc. Rather get a dedicated system such as self propelled artillery

RE engines is not an easy thing to do. Even South Korea had problems with their K2 Black Panther Tank's power pack. And South Korea is no stranger with automotive engines.

Sejak bila k2 engine reverse engineering pulak? First time i heard about this. All i know is that one of the requirements was to use indegenous made engine. The problem with the engine is not it design but the parts inside the engine

Either wear off too quickly or break during testing. Report say it due to local contractors no experience in making powerpack especially for tanks. Components produced is not up to military quailty standard plus given the rush to field the K2 just make matters worse. Stop gap solutions is to get mtu from Germany which again iinm the same company that provide power pack for our pt91m although thre news that they originally wanted to get from japan the one used in type 10 but jepun refuse to sell

My mistake. I thought that it was modeled after the German-developed MTU-890.
*
K2 project was progressing fast ahead while the engine development was behind

They turn to japan originally for their type 10 mtu. But japan do not want to sell, it was long ago and japan still imposed their self restrictions on weapon sales to other country. I dunno engine can consider weapon lol.. but tat was before they relax tat rule around tis year

So german come in hand. Originally they was already part of adviser team. So the idea of design from german is already thre. That why the mtu 890 can fit easily. It was also for testing purposes in the k2 (other system) while waiting their own indegenous power pack is to be ready. But problem continously come to the local made mtu and the top finnaly fed up and decided to order field the k2 asap to avoid negative public opinion. The project was already over budget and with tis engine problem will most probably cost more.

No problem for the german.. Thre money to be made plus it not like it a top secret classified technology. It just an power pack haha. Alot of country have it including our pt91m although their is a higher power variant

QUOTE(waja2000 @ Nov 11 2014, 02:04 PM)
not somwhere to fit it, is list of sensor/module/weapon up to you to select base on your requirement. there list of partner defense industry suppler for you to select. anyway EOD already install in front nose so can do ISR, SAR, CAS, traning job. other depend your selection
anyway it cost can go up to 30 million if want full function.

just compare M-346 also cost 30 million each (S'pore order)
hawk 2xx light attack jet also cost 30~33 each.
TA-50 close to 40 million. (indo order)

30mil.. mahal juga

Just wait n see how many unit are in the talk

Special Operations Command briefings and demonstrations at G20
11 November 2014 Tuesday

1JPAU at Work. Photography by CPL David Cotton in Queensland.

Special Operations Command hosted a delegation from the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting - Plus (ADMM+) Experts' Working Group on Counter-Terrorism from the 28th to the 29th of October where they participated in a series of briefings and demonstrations related to Australia's Whole of Government preparations for the G20 Summit.

Delegates from Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Myanmar, New Zealand, Russia, and Thailand were invited to meet soldiers from the 2nd Commando Regiment at the Port of Brisbane, where they got a hands-on demonstration of equipment being used throughout the G20 Summit and watched a dynamic demonstration of the security capability provided in support of the Queensland Police Service.

Other ADF elements were faced with several security scenarios over the period of 28th to 30th of October in order to test command and control systems ahead of the G20 Summit in November.

The scenarios involved fictitious threats from the land, the sea and the air and included Defence elements in both Brisbane and in Canberra.

Approximately 2000 Defence personnel are contributing to the ADF’s support to the G20 Summit, including personnel from the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force. ADF force elements include clearance divers, pilots, explosive ordnance detection dogs and members of Special Operations Command.

Can anybody say S-1 Pantsir? brows.gif

Even the missile look like Pantsir missile:

based on 9K22 Tunguska

It was reported back in 2012

QUOTE
Air Defense: China Does It Cheaper Again

November 27, 2012: China is offering their new FK-1000 anti-aircraft system for export. This is a large truck containing radar, 25mm anti-aircraft cannon, and short range missiles. This is seen as a pretty direct copy of the Russian 2K22 (SA-18) self-propelled (on a tracked vehicle) system armed with radar, eight anti-aircraft missiles (10 kilometers range), and two 30mm (4,000 meters range) automatic cannon (with 1,900 rounds of ammo). The FK-1000 has two 25mm cannon and twelve copies of the Tunguska missiles used on the 2K22 system. The FK-1000 is mounted on an 8x8 wheeled vehicle and carries a more modern AESA radar.

Thus, the FK-1000 is not the most modern weapon of this type. In 2008, Russia began replacing the 2K22 with the more modern Pantsir-S1, which is mounted on an 8x8 truck. Each vehicle carries radar, two 30mm cannon, and twelve upgraded Tunguska missiles. The 90 kg (198 pound) Tunguska missile has a twenty kilometer range while the Pantsir-S1 radar has a 30 kilometer range. The missile can hit targets at up to 8,400 meters (26,000 feet) high. The 30mm cannon is effective up to 3,200 meters (10,000 feet). The vehicles used to carry all the Pantsir-S1 can vary, but the most common one used weighs 20 tons and has a crew of three. Each Pantsir-S1 vehicle costs about $15 million, which is about the same as the older 2K22 but with superior capabilities. The FK-1000 looks more like the Pantsir-S1 but has capabilities closer to the older 2k22 and costs closer to $5 million each.

At Euronaval 2014, DCNS is unveiling major innovations in three key areas – improved submerged endurance, enhanced surface intelligence gathering, and deployment of unmanned underwater vehicles – to improve the performance and safety of conventional-propulsion submarines. All these new developments illustrate the unique expertise and innovative potential of DCNS teams.
Three technologies to improve submerged endurance

To meet demand from customers for improved submerged endurance of conventional-propulsion submarines (SSKs), DCNS now offers dedicated hull sections known as Autonomy Boosting Sections.

Whereas SSKs typically have a submerged endurance of about three days, DCNS now proposes three new technologies to extend this critical parameter to three weeks.

The first is a hull plug equipped with new-generation high-capacity lithium-ion batteries. Easy to operate, the technology offers high submerged speeds on demand and improved response to power ramp-up and variations. Lithium-ion batteries can also be recharged at sea. The endurance of a Scorpene-type submarine is increased to seven days resulting in a significantly enhanced tactical capability.

The second solution, the Mesma air-independent propulsion (AIP) system, is packaged as a compact dedicated hull section. Mesma’s steam turbine-based technology uses a fuel that is readily available in ports and is ideal for extending an SSK’s endurance at patrol speeds. The sea-proven Mesma system increases the submerged endurance of a Scorpene-type submarine to two weeks.

The third solution, a second-generation fuel-cell AIP, represents a technological breakthrough compared to current-generation AIPs in terms of performance, safety, flexibility and maintenance.

This solution combines several key DCNS innovations in fuel cell technology. Hydrogen is produced from diesel fuel by hydrocarbon reforming as required, overcoming the need to store hydrogen on board the submarine.

This revolutionary technology increases submerged endurance to three weeks; a capability that confers a decisive advantage in certain theatres of operations

LTZ, look like DCNS come out with special add-on hull for their array of AIP for scropene brows.gif brows.gif

Didnt know it can launch mica as well thumbup.gif

how the sub scans for air target?
*
Most likely after launch, the missile will find its own target. MICA is fire and forget capable plus its short range meaning the target is within close proximity from the detected sub.

Anyway, Dcns also introduced a new periscope depth buoy capable with with array of sensors even with 360 cameratv/ir

QUOTE
The Vipère® multifunction buoy offers periscope performance without having to come up to periscope depth. Vipère® enhances a submarine’s intelligence-gathering capability while remaining deeply submerged and without compromising discretion. Data gathered by the sensor payload is relayed in real time to the host submarine. Depending on operational needs, the buoy’s payload can also include communications equipment, a satellite positioning system to reset inertial platforms, electronic warfare systems such as a radar warning receiver, or an electro-optical package with a TV/IR camera to visually monitor an area of interest.camera

Maybe a limited capable radar to search low level air craft like an asw heli

Plus need to cut hull to add new section.

Maybe can add li-ion battery and fuel cell. Again, navy mana ada duit haha

website always said Diesel Submarine no AIP only can submerge for 3~4 days.
with AIP traditional system can submerge 4kt for 1 week,
new one AIP with Fuel cell can submerge for 2~3 week at 4kt.
latest AIP with Li-ion batteries can archive 14 knot  for 2 week due to huge electric performances by Li-ion batteries. good for mission and escape form mission.
DCNS traditional MESMA AIP is not the good AIP system.  so for our future Submarine should go direction for future DCNS Li-ion AIP system
*
Would prefer fuel cell.. that the future and thejr efficiency is increasing

Li-ion battery is dated technology. Most sub would replace their existing lead acid to li-ion battery and fuel cell

Most manufacturers offer MRAP as off-the-shelf buy also, no need to wait for production. Protection also top-notch quality. Situation in Lebanon seems very good MRAP country.

Tracked are more resilient.

Thought, i always wonder we have the option to get the mordern t90 instead we opt for those poland soviet design tanks. Not that, i say it bad but why take an old design when we was officially offered one of the latest.

Well India did that with their EX.Tank fitting Arjun Turrets on T-72 hulls. The project eventually was scrapped.

in the end also get the t90... laugh.gif

t72 one thing good is its reliability, the rest armor protection can be said to be subpar.. blow up alot.. even from syrian video can be seen this apparent problem

hope the next tank we will get have better protection and a little more modern compared to tis soviet era design

IMHO, malaysia should set higher weight limit for their tank requirements, maybe specific a larger track modification which can be done without much issues laugh.gif

Why not opt for active protection system instead? you don't have to sacrifice mobility for more weight

Still would have to chuck out money for it though, Russian arena-e would cost usd$300,000 per-tank to be installed and only adds to 1.1ton to the overall weight of the tank
