QUOTE(carloz28 @ Aug 24 2014, 09:55 PM) Needed a penalty save and a last minute injury time winner against West Ham.Went behind early but managed to claw back a narrow 1-2 win against AEL from Cyprus. Now leading 4-0 against a newly promoted QPR stuck at the bottom of the league playing with a back 3 of Caulker, Rio Ferdinand (35) and Richard Dunne (34). Impressive scoreline and performance but you can't say Pochettino is already done building his team. Everyone knew Eriksen and Lamela are quality, problem is the managers before Poch weren't able to get the best out of them. This post has been edited by Cloud0890: Aug 24 2014, 10:12 PM |

QUOTE Manchester United and Real Madrid have finally agreed a fee for Angel Di Maria's pending move to Old Trafford, sources in Spain have told ESPN FC. The English side will pay 75 million euros upfront, with up to 15 million euros of add-ons and incentives attached, split into three potential payments of five million euros. ESPN FC was informed by the Spanish sources that, with the way the deal would be structured, United will most likely end up paying 80 million euros for the 26-year-old. Wow so rich. I jelly... |

QUOTE(hfi @ Aug 26 2014, 05:36 AM) Yeah we really missed having 2 strikers. I mean we only managed to force an own goal after going with 2 strikers so that pretty much tells the whole story. Against City, you either match their aggression and physicality, or beat them through guile and craft. We had neither tonight. Definitely could use a bit of Mario. It's also not a coincidence that we only somehow managed to find a winner last weekend only after Lambert came on and played a part in it. Sturridge is obviously not effective as a lone man upfront. Either one of Balotelli or Markovic has to come in for the Spurs game. |

QUOTE(hfi @ Aug 26 2014, 06:03 PM) Mistakes ahead, he looks promising. That link up play with the lazer is something we haven't seen in years from our fullbacks, should have squared it to Sturridge and it would had been a goal. Was expecting more of that type of link up between Johnson and Sterling last night. Sterling looked isolated out on the right flank. In the past, even with disfunctional fullbacks, there's always Suarez as an option to play 1-2s with. Johnson looked decent in defense last night but in offence he looked indecisive and slow. |

QUOTE(carloz28 @ Aug 26 2014, 10:31 PM) Not sure about you, but I'm personally very disappointed that we didn't win yesterday. To become champions, these are the games we need to win to separate us from the rest. "Oh it's Man City with their very own galacticos, playing in their own turf, so it's OK to drop 3 points to them." That is just WRONG. Lol were you really expecting Liverpool to be champions this year? Delusional. If I'm BR, I wouldn't incept this kinda mentality into my players. Yes, players shouldn't dwell too much on the loss and move forward, but I hope the players feel angry with themselves for losing such a great opportunity to pull away from the rest and use this to fuel the fire in them. If they can accept this loss, I bet BR and his boys will show the same level of acceptance against the other big teams and complacency will start creeping in gradually. Furthermore, losing against our rival contenders means we have extra pressure to beat the smaller teams. And if we drop points against smaller teams, slowly but surely our dream of becoming EPL champions will once again end up in smoke. Next year again maybe. Bottom line, home or away, it's not acceptable to be beaten by Man City who is not even playing at their best. Lots of work to be done. |

QUOTE(carloz28 @ Aug 26 2014, 11:58 PM) It's only natural for a team to aim for championship, having finished second in the previous season, let alone nearly win the league if it wasn't for the blips in the last few games. Not sure if you are underestimating Suarez's contributions or City and Chelsea's prowess. But judging from your statement, you are implying last year's achievement was a fluke to you, either that you don't have confidence in BR or his team. I think its the latter. Let us all drop our expectations on BR so that when he fails to achieve the holy grail (which he is hired for ), you can continue to find excuses and positives on this team to make yourself feel better on Monday morning, shall we? The club has gone through over 20 years of mismanagement and has only begun to see some light under the guidance of FSG. You expect everything to go back to the way it was 30 years ago just like that? Especially with all the billionaires coming into the game now trying to build their own Galacticos. Had FSG and BR came in 10-15 years ago it would have been a much easier task. At least I can say I have the patience to expect things to go step by step. Our first step was to get back into the CL after years of absence. Now our target should be to make sure we can make that spot ours. With the stadium renovation coming soon, we desperately need the CL money. |

QUOTE(carloz28 @ Aug 27 2014, 12:48 AM) I think you are swaying away from the crux of the discussion. The point I'm highlighting here is that we are taking the loss against City very lightly. For us, as the fans, I'm not bothered that much as each of us has our own expectations, but I'm more concerned if BR and the players have the same inferior feeling against the other rich powerhouse teams. I understand there are concerns with our performance but it's only been 2 games and these 2 games has proven 1 important thing - our best formation is a Diamond with 2 up front. We are not taking the game to their neck as opposed to what we have seen last season in Etihad. We are missing the energy and the drive to get the 3 points while City beat us with relative ease. Same old Jeckyll and Hyde performance. And the defense...the less said is better. If this is not a cause of concern to you, then you probably have a lower expectation than mine. I agree with you there are phases we must go through to achieve our ultimate ambition. Now that we know we can play football (with Suarez), we were giving the big boys a run for their money, and we are in CL, why must we drop the momentum and fall back to our comfort zone again and worrying thing is, we are starting to adopt "everything is OK" attitude instead of building on it? How do you expect Liverpool players to protect the CL spot, let alone winning the EPL with this kinda mentality? Until the likes of Balotelli, Lallana and Markovic comes in and show us what they can do, I won't pass judgment on BR's ability to mould this team just yet. As for the defence, Moreno has to adapt to the league, Skrtel has to follow Lovren's lead in the high line, Manquillo is young and barely played last season but did well so far, Flanno is still out. Take last season for example, we didn't really click into gear until a few games in. It got even better when Suarez came back and Sturridge joining him shortafter. Hopefully Balotelli can give us that push. |
