QUOTE(Rotuham @ Aug 31 2014, 10:57 PM) That is good news.If anything i rather none of the players went. At least it's a confidence booster. I would rather this than to have 2 consecutive losses going into a 2 week break disappointed.I remember last season each time after the international breaks the results and performances were piss poor. |

Steven Gerrard knew Luis Suarez would ‘engineer’ a way out of Liverpool when he saw him bite Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup.
The Uruguayan, who was handed a four month ban for the offence, switched Anfield for Barcelona in the summer in a £75m move, following a superb season for Liverpool. Speaking to Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports ahead of his side’s Super Sunday clash with Tottenham, Gerrard revealed he had hoped Suarez would stay in the North West for at least one more season. However, he was resigned to losing last season’s top scorer when he saw Suarez’s headline-grabbing actions in Brazil. “I thought he was going to stay, I thought we’d have got another year out of him,” said Gerrard. “I was actually already on the floor when I saw the bite because we knew we were going out. It was a double blow, knowing you’re going out of the World Cup and knowing you’re going to lose your best player. “I knew there was no way back for him then and I knew he was going to engineer a way out.” Talent In a bid to bolster Liverpool’s attacking options following Suarez’s exit, boss Brendan Rodgers last week signed former Man City striker Mario Balotelli for £16m from AC Milan. While Gerrard accepts Balotelli has had a troubled past, he is hopeful the Italy forward – like Daniel Sturridge – will seize his opportunity at Liverpool and make the most of his talent. “It’s an interesting one because he’s got a point to prove,” said Gerrard. “Similar to Sturridge, people are waiting to see whether he’ll take to Liverpool, whether Liverpool is going to be the right place for him. “He’s certainly got the talent and ability. I’ve trained with him two or three times and he’s got a great touch, he’s quick, he’s got the movement – he’s got everything in the bag. “We’ll have to wait and see if he behaves himself and performs – that’s what everyone is waiting for and I’m no different.” Gel Gerrard also revealed he is happy with the club’s summer spending. As well as Balotelli, Liverpool have added eight more players to their ranks – including on loan Javier Manquillo. While the Reds skipper accepts it may take a while for the new arrivals to gel, he is optimistic that Liverpool will improve as the season goes on. “I’m impressed with all of them, they’ve all got strengths and they’re all good players,” he said of the new signings. “We have to be a bit patient with them because they’re not all going to play great from the start and it is going to take time for some of them to settle. “But what’s happened at Liverpool, with losing Luis and making so many signings, I think we’ll get stronger as the season goes on. “The key is going to be how quickly we can all adapt to each other over the next weeks and months and try to get close to the performances of last year. It’s going to take time because there’s been so much change.” |

QUOTE(carloz28 @ Aug 31 2014, 11:10 PM) Moreno need no 3 yrs to put up with the blistering pace of English football, that's for sure. For a defender to come up with such a quality goal against a quality opposition, I am absolutely delighted with him. Still gotta build on his stamina though along with Manquillo. Can see how tired they are near the end of the game. Will be even more testing during the winter period.Fact of the matter is, this whole thingy "I need 3 yr honeymoon soul searching period to establish myself in a club" has conveniently become a quick get out of jail card for new players who under-perform in their new clubs. And with the wages these guys are demanding and drawing from their employers, they SHOULD be hanging their heads in shame really. |

After losing five consecutive Premier League away fixtures against Tottenham, Liverpool have won their last two (eight goals scored, none conceded).
Liverpool scored their 10th Premier League penalty against Tottenham. This took them clear of Manchester City against Aston Villa as the team with most penalties against a single opponent. Javier Manquillo recorded six of Liverpool's 14 interceptions in this game Etienne Capoue has attempted the most passes in the Premier League this season (301). Liverpool against Spurs drew level with Liverpool against Newcastle as the Premier League fixture to contain the most goals (129). Spurs produced one shot on target in this match - the only game in which they managed fewer than two last season was in the 5-0 home defeat against Liverpool. Liverpool had 39.5% of possession; the only game in which they had less last season was in the 4-0 home win against Everton (39.1%). |

QUOTE(Max_07s @ Sep 1 2014, 07:54 AM) good display by Moreno. silent performance by Markovich, a lil bit afraid to breakthrough spurs defence. also good intercept by emre can. Don't think Markovic was afraid. Think it was a tactical decision by our staff to shut up shop after lessons learned last season. You can see he doesn't matter running with the ball at all only focusing on passing 1-2s to keep the ball. In a way I guess you can applaud him adhering to instructions and not being selfish going all gungho trying to impress.allen also not bad. he works hard to gain his position. sakho and lovren also get a clean sheet. balo? good performance. fill the gap between strurij and midfield that we lack in previous 2 matches. eriksen?? as usual he was not shine against big team. QUOTE(carloz28 @ Sep 1 2014, 08:28 AM) The fall guy for them Yids are always the defence. Now that Dawson is gone guess who's next to take blame? Kaboul! |

QUOTE(kenlimfornication @ Sep 1 2014, 09:51 AM) On a serious note, I like how vocal Henderson is. How he rallied other players when they almost conceded a goal after mistake by Lovren. Hendo should at least be in contention for vice captaincy. His energy is now irreplaceable in our lineup.I can see this guy leading a team in a few years time. |

Liverpool the victors in Valdes chase?
Simon Mignolet might be in for some serious competition in the Liverpool goal before long, according to the Express. They say Brendan Rodgers wants to sign ex-Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes, now a free agent, and he is not perturbed by the fact that the Spanish star is currently getting over a cruciate injury. Valdes should be fit by November, and Rodgers is apparently prepared to put him through a thorough medical before snapping him up. His sweeper-keeper gifts would certainly seem to fit into Liverpool's brand of football, so there might just be something in this. |

QUOTE(G_KeN @ Sep 1 2014, 05:34 PM) A friendly reminder. You better hope that Woody buys another CB in the next couple hours because with time running out it doesn't look like Rojo will get his work permit in time meaning that he won't be able to live and train in the UK and won't be registered for the squad. |

QUOTE(yeelong @ Sep 1 2014, 10:42 PM) LIVERPOOL: Sources have told ESPN FC that the Anfield club are unlikely to sign Victor Valdes today given his current injury status. Not convinced that Valdes is the answer to our Mignolet problem. Mignolet like Valdes possesses great reflexes but also similarly poor at catching crosses so he ain't gonna improve on that account. Mignolet's other weakness is also his ability to command and organise his defense but is Valdes' English good enough to communicate that with our centre backs? |

QUOTE(hfi @ Sep 1 2014, 11:07 PM) I think we are more interested in his ability to command the box - he's got the experience playing with a top back four so he knows what it takes to command one. And while he may not be all that good at crosses, he's still very good in his positioning, which Mignolet can be quite suspect at times. Lmao the dub. Also another thing about Valdes, is he overrated because of the way Barca plays? We know Barca controls 60-70% or more possession most games and as a result he isn't tested as often as other keepers. Still would love to see him have a go at Mignolet's spot though if his wage packet is acceptable. I suspect someone of his reputation would command at least 150-200k a week and that's not an amount we can afford for a 2nd choice if he can't dislodge Mignolet from his spot.Language won't be a problem, it can be learned rather easily. Even our two fullbacks don't seem to speak English. In any case, he does speak English. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

QUOTE(WanMB @ Sep 1 2014, 11:12 PM) 200k+ wage packet. Touted 6m loan fee and United fans are raving about it being a bargain but in reality it's only to avoid FFP as the deal WILL BE made permanent regardless the following season for a total of 65m euros. Not exactly a fee we can often splashing on a 28 year old with a dodgy knee. More risk than Balo even though I think he will be a hit in the PL. |

QUOTE(bitebug @ Sep 1 2014, 11:42 PM) Everyone would bendover for Reus to come to them. Then again, where would Reus play if he comes to us? 4-3-3 doesn't work for us. Can only see us dropping either one of Balo/Sturridge/Sterling for a spot in the diamond front 3. This would make things even more difficult for Coutinho/Allen/Lallana/Suso. |

Is a Liverpool move for Victor Valdes realistic or even the right one?
It's OK saying that competition for places is healthy, but that is less true when it comes to the man between the posts. Liverpool fans can recall times when they had more than one decent goalkeeper. When David James arrived in the early 90s, Bruce Grobbelaar and Mike Hooper were still at the club. Manager Graeme Souness got into the habit of dropping one of them whenever they made a mistake, which resulted in each man becoming a bag of nerves and making more mistakes. It was only when Roy Evans picked James as official No. 1 that some solidity was achieved. Years later, James got the jitters again when Brad Friedel came to the club. In the end neither could find consistency and Gerard Houllier spent money on Sander Westerveld instead. It's the Dutchman who comes to mind when watching Simon Mignolet. Good shot-stopper, but never really leaving the impression that he will have numerous unbeatable days. Mignolet has had his problems with the ball in the air and it would be that question mark that hangs over him all season. Fortunately, few teams have resorted to just "lumping it" into the box and charging the young Belgian. Whenever the ball was in the air at White Hart Lane on Sunday against Tottenham, Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho seemed to deal with most of the trouble. Early days, of course. http://www.espnfc.com/club/liverpool/364/b...n-the-right-one Interesting read. |
