Vanilla means the game doesn't have any other modification being added. Truly original.

i still play quake 3 in fact quake 2 and quake 1 !!! unbelivable ya ~ .... not enuf juice for quake 4

Edit: Actually in the CPMA mod theres CPM and Vanilla. So the server will be using the CPMA mod according to the CPL game set.

In competitive q3, there has been only 1 "ruleset" (to use your words), and thats OSP.
CPMA is popular but hasn't been used at a high profile tourney yet. Now its gamemode of choice for the CPL

the only high-profile competitive q3 that uses OSP is quakecon...which is held only in the USA, unlike all the other mods..

promode was choosen by most gamers than CPL itself by a poll im sure you know better.

btw there will be a malaysian vq3 server up very soon..like in a few days actually..

OSP has been used for both WCG and ESWC in previous years. The _only_ reason that CPMA was chosen over OSP is because the creator of OSP has since moved on to q4max for Quake4 and has stopped support for OSP.

yup. since the days of Razer CPL, Babbages, OSP has always been used for tournies.

CPMA or OSP doesn't really matter.
Bring the server up, state what the mod etc. and teh sheeps will be there.

the only way to play quake 3 is via LAN. our local broadband just doesn't cut it, not even on local servers. i'm sort of retired from quake (semi-retired from gaming) but i wouldn't mind some fragging if i have the time and the right people to play with.

Hmm.. 30+ms ping is considered bad still? o.O? I am averaging that in servers that's residing in SEA's region(SG/MY)

You can try your luck for any shop that bring New Era games.
If you stay around PJ, you can look for it at MPH 1-Utama, around the comic section. There's a rack selling old and educational games. Q3A were among of the game. The price is either RM 39.90 or 29.90, i forgot

It can get rather busy at night, I was able to participate in CTF yesterday(3v3)

sweet, i've only played q3 cpma with bots only. is the irc channel still up?

was in last nite. only had 2 or 3 ppl. 1-on-1 style.

how come no one likes FFA or ctf anymore...i got my butt whipped.

FFA a bit sucky although it brainless fun Coz FFA you get fragged or frag by luck most of the time eg when you're low on HP and such.

We do play CTF if there's many players, like at least 3 on each team. The problem with playing CTF with little players is it's too easy to capture flag since it's usually considered sold if you get pass one defender.

I getting my butt whipped badly in there as well Getting a frag in 1v1 is a very good accomplishment for me

obviously, it has promode movements. so first timers gonna get owned

Movement, weapon balance(weaker/stronger), air control, armor type just to name a few. Definitely need more skill than VQ3 and the pace is much much more faster, so if you play with CS style you're going to get owned bad.

And as of 1.38, CPMA reduced most ammo pickup from weapon to 5(from 10). Less spamming to frag now and harder on aiming skill.

Hi all! Nice to see a q3 game server is held up. Actually was informed by Guardioo...Hmm anyone actually play quake 4 too since i m playing it online now..I may like to get back my quake 3 who is with my friend's hand for years lol..i like CPMA mode just the speed makes me feel so intense
