QUOTE(zhershern @ Nov 10 2014, 12:49 PM) So that's the only way Let me share my experience, I tried to form a team by adding players from the leaderboards back when i was at 5.5k. Most of them gave me a cold response. I heard from a friend that one of them rejected my offer beacuse i'm a mere 5.5k player. Things changed quickly when i reached 6k for the first time. Suddenly I got invitations to form/join a team from 5.6k-5.8k players. Guess what, some of them are players that i added back when i was 5.5k. Back then they don't give a shit about me and the team that i'm trying to form. vin0dJust want to share, i didn't make it into udmn team selection because i don't speak chinese. Rejected after 1 game.

True.
I did an experiment on 4.2k friend's account before. I claimed mid, hover my mouse cursor to meepo. My teammates went nuts, they think i'm trolling. In the end we had 4 core and 1 support. Our support didn't want to buy courier and wards. Merajuk sebab solo suppport.
I was like, ok screw this, lets do an experiment. I bought the courier, fly it, buy wards non stop and place the wards myself. I did all of that while playing as a mid meepo. If that wasnt bad enough, my teammates fed 0-10 and kept blaming each other the whole game.
Despite what happened in that game, i still managed to carry them all. That feeling when i wiped the entire opponent team and got the godlike streak, best feeling ever.

My piece of advise, not just to you but to everyone else too. Enjoy the game for what it is, a game. I believe that most good players didn't start playing the game because they want to be the best. They play the game because its their passion. They enjoy it but don't expect any reward from it.
2 years ago during the international, they interviewed SyndereN during the break between games. He said one of the most inspirational things I've ever heard. I can't remember the exact words, but he said something like this:
"I'm xx years old from Denmark. I study English in university, i study it because i love it. I only do things that i love, because i believe if you do something that you really love you will get really good at it. When you're good at something, the world will open up to you."
I started playing dota since 2007, back then i was only 11 years old. I don't remember aiming to be top players until i was 16. During g-arena days my mentality was, "Biar kalah asalkan godlike.". Just like COD players, get as much kills every game. My favorite heroes back then were gondar, balanar, bloddseeker. Those days were the best days for me as a dota players, made a lot of friends too.
Throughout my days playing dota, i never read any guides or watch it on youtube unless my friend linked it to me. Why waste time read guides when all i want to do is play the game. Thinking back i'm glad i didn't rely too much on guides, because guides will tell you how to think. To be a good dota player you need to think for yourself and develop your own style.
The danger of focusing too much on getting good and winning instead of enjoying the game is that in the long run you will get tunnel vision. Most players that have that mentality will break at one point. Let me share a quote that my brother showed me:
“When someone seeks," said Siddhartha, "then it easily happens that his eyes see only the thing that he seeks, and he is able to find nothing, to take in nothing because he always thinks only about the thing he is seeking, because he has one goal, because he is obsessed with his goal. Seeking means: having a goal. But finding means: being free, being open, having no goal. You, O worthy one, are perhaps indeed a seeker, for in striving towards your goal, you do not see many things that are under your nose.” ― Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha

I hope next time, a large scale tournament like that should have online qualifiers. Our team can't even participate in that tournament because the slot is full, kinda sad we because i think our team is strong enough to compete in the tournament.

QUOTE(azranashraf @ Dec 19 2014, 08:53 AM) are you in UDMN? or other team? going to compete at klcc tomorrow? Nope. We are Pasukan Panglima(Pang5), basically nobody. After months trying to form a team, we finally got our 5th player 2 weeks ago. I just got back from Rakan Muda tournament, my first LAN in 2 years. Lost to ex-Arrow team, now have to climb back from losers bracket. The who2bet squad that got 3rd place last week also participates in this Rakan Muda tournament. I think winning against them is possible since we won every game against them in scrim this week. I just hope we don't choke tomorrow. In LAN, the pressure is real. QUOTE(Agito666 @ Dec 20 2014, 12:22 AM) name choice not really good... PangLima = Pang5 then Pang 5 i read as Pang Five Pang five > Pang Fai > Pang Sai.... What does Pang Sai means. The name was my teammates idea. When i first heard it, i thought it was a smart wordplay. http://e-sukan.com/5480/rakanmudabermula/

Oh well.... we lost. QUOTE(v1n0d @ Dec 20 2014, 11:14 AM) This is why I believe it's still good to hantam people in game. They get used to the pressure. Gen-Y generally has it too easy and they take it for granted. Anyways good luck with the tournament. Trust me, the road to the top is not easy for anyone. This year alone, i contemplated quitting this game more than once. I was on the verge of giving up, but i persevere. Its not just my journey in solo mmr, i lost count on how many rejections i get when trying to form my team. I don't believe treating people the way you mentioned is the right way. If you ask anybody who played under my me, i can guarantee you that most of them will tell you this; not once did i scold them when they make mistakes. Whenever someone play under me, i want them to trust me, but trust is not free. If i want to earn that trust, i have to give it to them first. I have to trust them to learn from their mistakes, i have to trust their judgement before i get something in return. If you want to see your teammates true character, see how they act when everything go wrong. I strongly believe that most other aspiring team can't handle pressure like ours, because i already took away the pressure from my teammates. Every time we lost i will try to control my emotion and handle myself with dignity. I strongly believe that a person who can persevere despite disappointment after disappointment are the one with true strength. Those who always find excuses and blame others are the one that have it easy imo. I'm not trying to argue with you btw. I just want to share my perspective with other forumers.
