Hi guys.

What do you think about having Dungeons and Dragons, board, and all table-top related games (Warhammer Fantasy Battle, 40k, Shadowrun, etc) under the Entertainment forums?

These are obviously games, even though they are not electronic in nature, and I believe they possess substantial complexity and rules to be categorized as games instead of just being "hobbies" (it's not snake or ladders, nor monopoly, nor any kinds chess games).

Plus, since Gamer's Hideout is also being restructured, so this may be a good opportunity to include this addition.

Just to add card games to be included in these category too, table top games, maybe also those tabletop games which also utilise tablets too.

I agree.

Putting it in Gamer's Hideout might be confusing for most people since it's mainly for PC games. How about a completely separate section?
*
But by putting it in a different section might make it difficult to search as well.

What a sub-forum/section/category within the Gamer's Hideout?

It is important to understand that these table-top games are also legitimate, actual GAMES that people play.

The word "gaming" should not be exclusive to electronic/console/PC gaming only.

"Gamer's Hideout", must not discriminate all types of gamers. tongue.gif

An example of a gaming session:

I'm neutral towards the suggestion (neither for or against it).

I think for a start we can 1) leave the topics in Hobbies, 2) set a Table-top Games as a tag, 3) add a virtual redirect subforum under Gamers Hideout that links to the Table-top Games tag in Hobbies.

With step #3 we can count the number of clicks to gauge how popular a subforum in that position would be.

BTW are board games considered table top games?

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ Oct 9 2014, 04:55 PM)
I prefer to see board games to be a separate subforum as they have little relation with PC games.

While Games Hideout should be renamed as PC Games Hideout as there are always some console threads pop up occasionally.
*
Can we at least put it under the 'Entertainment' section, instead of the 'Lifestyle' section?

It is obviously gaming, and gaming should be categorized under 'Entertainment', just like how PC Gaming is.

I agree with both Cheesenium and Deadlocks... But of course we have to consider the traffic of the current thread.  If it has enough traffic or activeness, I think a separate thread for Board/Table top games would be good under Entertainment... It definitely doesnt fall under Hobbies smile.gif

What can I do, to at least introduce the concept in this forum?

Here's a rather interesting video about how much fun many tabletop games are:

I would like a subforum for table top games rather than putting it inside Gamers Hideout as GH is for PC games only. Better don't mix it up with table top games.

But then, it's up to wkkay for decision. smile.gif

Can we at least put it under the 'Entertainment' section (it doesn't have to be under the Gamer's Hideout thread, and it has been considered as only for PC gaming), instead of the 'Lifestyle' section?

It is obviously gaming, and gaming should be categorized under 'Entertainment', just like how PC Gaming is.

There's actually an existing board game thread that has traffic: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=1426486&hl=.

I'm asking if we can move it to under the Entertainment section, that is providing I manage to garner support from those who frequents there.

how does one avoid or at least reduce confusion between games like those from D&D, WarHammer, MTG with games like Uno, Jenga, Scrabble, Monopoly and others?
*
All of them are table-top games, a general term used to refer to board games, card games, dice games, miniatures wargames, tile-based games and other games that are normally played on a table or other flat surface. The term is used to distinguish these types of games from sports and video games, which today enjoy more popularity than most tabletop games.

The term is also used to distinguish role-playing games from role-playing video games and LARPs, although role-playing games may not necessarily require a wide playing surface.

Hello sorry forgot to attend to this.

OK so current there's no disagreement on this.

Are there many existing threads on card games?

If not then maybe we can use topic-tagging first.
*
Let's play it safe for the time being and see how it goes. biggrin.gif

Topic-tagging.
