*a long story again, sorry but i don't know where to seek for advice*
This is my sem 2 in diploma in IT, and, due to my English in UEC got off topic and didn't meet their requirement for foundation or degree, they don't accept third party english cer other than primary certificate that is used to register the university(UEC). well, i actually don't have any problem while presentation, speaking or understanding, even i go degree i will have zero problems with english. Anyway i still failed for the grade, at least a foundation for me, but i could only waste my time to complete full 2 year and 4 month diploma. Why i choose diploma in the beginning? 1 of my senior said, he is studying diploma and sometimes didn't sleep for days(I was shocked that time i was so excited i could investigate some IT knowledge for few days non stop but is wasnt), most of his foundation friends changed from foundation to diploma because foundation hours = diploma*2.4 per week(38.4hour per week and need to study twice for some subject due to unable to credit transfer), which is squeezed into 1 year, while i checked just now its actually not, its only maximum 21hours per week. Degree? He said its not possible, I MUST get a diploma or foundation first, i was significantly mislead by him, else when i registering into the university, if i select degree i might get a chance for at least foundation and not diploma. In the first semester i got 2A and 2B due to bad team mates, and i feel the courses are really too easy for me and, for the reason i didn't score all A+, mainly because bad team mates(B+ for that) or i fail to make some of the lecturer happy(A for that), perhaps didn't handle problems between people nicely. No body got A for English. For subject like Math tech, solo style i scored A+ easily. For now, second semester, the Math tech II goes even easier because ALL of them i just learnt in form 6 and i just sit there and listen to everything i already deeply understand. my secondary school math is much harder than this and my secondary school don't provide any formula(math tech II provide full formula, i was shocked), for the program design, another course, I've already personally developed 10+ useful programs with total of 10k+ users around the internet and the lecturer still teach very basic things, for example, repeat the same thing for 2 weeks, i really wish i could study foundation or degree which the lecturer will teach faster. (for example, diploma math tech 1 & 2 = degree math tech 1).I've nothing to complain about the discrete structure, its a brand new thing i never discovered yet, and its allow to transfer to credit too. for the effective communication skill, i feel i am wasting time again as this isn't in degree course structure. There are more to go, for example, programming in JAVA and much more that doesn't exist in degree course structure and I already understand them fully,I mean, just let me know the language structure and symbol and I'm good to go. The most important is it doesn't exist in degree course structure. I just wait for the time goes and sit there to listen to lecturer teach a lot of things i already deeply understand. I get more desperate and desperate everyday. Everyone tells me diploma is better but i really don't care i will never work instantly after diploma i must get a degree! I try to make myself happy but whenever i sit in class and just stare at everything i already know, and the full course plan until end of the semester i already understand all of them I really don't know how to make myself happy, I'm really wasting time... So i have look through the course structure of the degree i wanted to study, computing and informatics and i realise only a little bit of course could be credit transferred... (maybe 1 or 2)? most of them changed the name like (business and entrepreneuership)(diploma) and (business and entrepreneuership IN MALAYSIA)(degree), those are possible to transfer? any students here from diploma IT to degree computer science? how many course marks have you guys transferred? I gonna calculate the difference between diploma and foundation and make myself happy perhaps... I don't have other way though, i really hope that i could get more exciting course at least foundation. Some of the people suggest me find others things to do, yes I'm doing that but I'm still very bored and emo when i stare at the very basic things in the class and i couldn't do something like swipe facebook in front of lecturer, who knows that lecturer don't like me, A+ become A even A-... Just want to talk something about my thoughts, I'm really desperate during the diploma course but the purpose i post here, mainly i want to know how much the total amount of courses could be credit transfered to degree, from diploma IT to computer science, because most of the course name aren't same sorry if those sentences hurt your eyes.. QUOTE(Human Nature @ Nov 7 2014, 07:06 PM) Since you are already going this path, just give your best. My advice is, if you have extra time, pick up some new skills. Help your friends who may be struggling in their studies. On the credit transfer stuffs, we have some members in CS, so they will know more than me. alright then, maybe gonna find something passionate to do in class Another question is i heard that if CGPA >3.75 then it is not required to pay PTPTN, how does that work? when the last semester finishes and final CGPA is released, fill the form, then all debts will be cleared, or that form need to be filled for each semester? |

QUOTE(chaukeng @ Nov 7 2014, 10:04 PM) Fill in at the end of your study after you receive your official transcript. The steps are more detailed than that. Nonetheless you do not have to fill it every semester. Sorry if i did no read your post earlier on, but how long have you been into your diploma studies? I'm not good in hacking, just able to ddos & crash some free servers. Please don't hack my account btw. This is my program and i never release to public, the picture is doing DDOS to google server but google server usually swallow all the packets and don't give a f***, packet loss due to the new noob streamyx modem (the apple style ones, crashed in 1 second), for cheap servers their server will be crashing and users not able to visit their website, that sort of things. Then i don't have to worry about that until my courses finishes, this is my second semester QUOTE(Human Nature @ Nov 7 2014, 10:12 PM) Why don't you join some IT competitions? Develop apps or game or something? (give me 10% royalty as inspiring fee) Are there any in school? I know there are one hosted by petronas but it was group project which i really hate, i can't find a teammate like me either. I would really happy to meet more people like me, i haven't meet one in real life since i started to play with computer skills(around 10 years old?)QUOTE(marlick25 @ Nov 7 2014, 10:20 PM) How long have u started ur study in Diploma? Well, as a final trimester student in Bachelor of Computer Science, I can safely say we DO learn JAVA in degree, it is just that the name might not mention JAVA. This is my second semester. Thats why, I don't want to learn the same thing twice especially i already understand the concept of programming languages, just let me know the structures and symbols will do. I have some friends finishing diploma course and they don't know the concept of programming languages at all, lets say the school teaches JAVA VB and C++, the job requires it to be C#.NET, die. (its actually not much different if you knows java and vb, and C++)I do however understand ur feeling, u just wanna to finish degree as fast as u could (I assume), because im feeling the same too. BTW if i were in ur shoes, I would totally end my diploma now and try to register for foundation instead. If ur this good and u still want a degree, foundation is much, much better. U will finish ur study in 4 years. But in diploma, u need like what, 2 years 2 sem to finish it right? Then in degree i dont think u can skip many trimesters, the most u can skip is maybe 1 or 2 trimesters only, n in the end u still need at least 5 years to finish ur study (i speak this from experience, i entered degree on july 2012 and i know some who are from diploma, n we will finish our study about the same time which is this trimester). And one of the lecturers that I met, said that for IT industry u dont really need a degree. U just need certifications (the good ones of course). U might wanna take it during ur years in MMU because they are seriously cheaper compared to if u take it outside. Anyway this is just my 10 cents, dont read into it too much. Studying in university is not just about learning and getting A's, it's more than that. I hope you will realise about it during your study. It is totally possible. Many of my friends are doing that. Just to make sure u finish ur study on time, u have to take those subjects that u are supposed to take during the last trimester of 3rd year. About the PTPTN, before this they did say if u graduate with first class honour (i.e CGPA >= 3.67), u can ask to turn the loan into scholarship. However, I am not sure if this thing still exists, so the only way u can make sure is to check on PTPTN website or ask the staff. The main problem is I am not qualified in English in the UEC certificate, when i ask them they says they only look into UEC certificate and ignore others like MUET IELTS that sort of thing, thus not applicable for foundation too. (Ignore SPM english too) She qualified not math but english afterwards, and asked me to attempt UEC once more but its never possible. I have some friends(uncles) are programmers and they tells me that If i want to work with a boss, Diploma will cap my level and can't go too high, for example, senior programmer at age 30 and still senior programmer until age 50. and my father says that he knows a friend graduated from computer science from mmu and earning around RM8k/month in singapore, I don't know if its true.(fresh graduate) This is my second trimester and I don't know what i could learn except the course Discrete Structure which is a totally fresh thing and it will be learnt in degree too. I will play with something like arduino at home perhaps, most of my friends, dota and TOS all the time, yes, all the time, even before getting into exam hall Since its last trimester job I don't have to worry about that too much, for now. QUOTE(nymerine @ Nov 8 2014, 08:53 AM) Are you saying you can apply for degree but you were misled by some seniors? Just do your MUET and apply for degree, don't waste time @ Diploma. Noo, i mean, because I am not qualified for English and they don't accept any third party english certificate either, IF i register for degree they might kick me to foundation or something, but once i register for diploma there is no hope, they never will do the job for changing the course for unqualified student like me. But, indeed, im wasting time here, just because the english.Anyway you should join competition around the campus if you're looking for challenge, they're definitely for people like you. p/s : I'm still looking for fixed partner for FIST-related competition During my intake its OOP, CP1, CP2 and for java embedded you will learn in Real Time System. Is it possible that i get MUET and study degree? I'm afraid that they says my UEC english isnt qualfied again. This is my second semester and i don't know are there any competition in the campus. I would really, really happy if i met someone is more knowledgeable than me in real life, i never met once since i started play with computers skills (10 years old) we are in different campus i guess.. im in melaka campus sorry but I don't understand your last sentence, do you mean these are the courses that u've transferred from diploma? thanks for the replies This post has been edited by NoobHacker: Nov 8 2014, 01:58 PM |

QUOTE(marlick25 @ Nov 8 2014, 07:49 PM) In the new course structure for BCS with specialization (FCI), we learn java during subject OOAD (object oriented and analysis if im not mistaken) UEC is equivalent to A level. My secondary school don't study SPM subjects, they teach different thing, for example, every math in chinese.history, geography too. For SPM, my math is not credit » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Ok your situation is quite complicated, as I dont even know what UEC is. But u still have ur SPM result right? Why dont u use that SPM to apply for foundation then degree eventually? (I dont think u can straightaway enter degree, n again i dont know what the equivalent is for UEC) Yeah true u will learn discrete structure back in degree. BTW for the record, u r now in MMU Malacca? Yes im in MMU malacca, i know the degree that i wanted to study is located in cyberjaya QUOTE(nymerine @ Nov 8 2014, 08:01 PM) NoobHacker look at the replies before these i heard someone attempt to study more courses in a trimester but got rejected by them? "FOLLOW THE COURSE STRUCTURE" something like that Last line isnt intended for you marlick25 I think MMU doesnt accept UEC, there's no equivalent to it i think. my main problem is : 1. The lecturer teaches way too slow for knowledge i already completely understand, i hope it could be faster in degree or foundation, i actually don't have things to do in class, stare at the slides and get bored. 2. The diploma will teach some courses that will be learnt in degree again, so (diploma students) can learn easier in degree because they learnt that knowledge already(for example, JAVA, same thing but different course name in degree) I've looked through the course structure and diploma teaches things really slow, for example i scanned through a part in JAVA programming, using a Font class can also considered into 1 out of 8 part of a course |

I'm sorry If i've asked the same question too frequent because lecturers couldn't give me exact answers. This is very important for me because for those subject cant be transfer I'll try get B+ or A-, for those can be transferred i will try my best and get A+ Now i made my questions more clear (hope someone else could understand) , based on the chart the left side is the course i study currently (diploma in IT), the 2010 stands for the degree i wanted to study (computer science), that was so nice i could transfer so much subjects! the 2014 stands for the current computer science structure, seems like most of the name have similar name and i don't know if i could transfer them, if not i could only transfer 1 subject, operating systems? that was so much difference compared to 2010's... thanks |
