Before this my kancil had a stock HU which had horrible reception. 90% of the time (while driving) i get static while 10% of the time i get some reception.

Then i changed to a 2nd hand JVC s785 HU and nothing changed. So i reckon its the antenna causing the problem. I went to an accesory shop and replaced it with a OEM kancil antenna. The reception did improved, now its like 80% got reception (most of the time while static) and 20% i still get choppiness. The choppiness occurs randomly while i drive.

Now this is VERY irritating. My mom's Wira with stock Clarion cassette player and stock antenna gets 100% clear reception except when being blocked by huge signboards or goes underground.

Wat seems to be the problem? Could it be my Head Unit? Or is something not grounded properly? Anyway i can solve this problem without buying a booster or the BOSCH in car antenna? REally irritating >.<

Any help greatly appreciated ^^

u mentioned that u changed the antenna.. did u change the antenna jack that connects to ur HU? cos some shops, they juz cut the wires and reconnect them with the new antenna.. it might be ur antenna jack.. juz my 2cents.. smile.gif

yup they changed the whole thing including the jack
i've been fiddling with the HU and the antenna
connection is no prob
i get perfect reception when im standstill, but when i move, it fluctuates 80good - 20bad. It gets worse at certain areas, whereby my mom's stock wira gets flawless reception.

the antenna is grounded to the car body from rooftop. any DIY mods can be done on the antenna or the HU connection to increase the reception? should i get a better grounding cable for the HU instead of tapping from the original kancil ground wire?

yup.. i did that.. used a thick gauge cable and ground it to the body directly from the HU.. improved the sound quality and also less static.. btw, some HUs differ from one another.. high sensitivity (more sensitive to radio stations), low clarity.. low sensitivity, high clarity.. it's either two.. i've used pioneer, kenwood, OEM clarion & blaupunkt and now the 2006 sony explode HU..

it seems that the clarion and blaupunkt HUs have high clarity but low in sensitivity as i can't tune to certain freq while driving my dad's 2000 perdana V6 and my Gen-2.. but in my tiara, i can..

btw, wut stations do u usually listen to? the newer stations like Hot FM, Fly FM and XFresh FM offers near CD quality radio reception even in my low clarity sony or any of my previous HUs.. if i listen to hitz.fm or others, then i'll get static with the reception.. but not on my clarion and blaupunkt..

Hmmm, interesting problem u have there, daijoubu... I'm lucky my G2 does not face this static problem, unless when the car is parked in a basement or when traveling outstation (the regular Klang Valley frequency will obviously produce static when travelling further away)...

Termignoni, i think the newer stations are using the more advanced broadcast equipment as compared with the older ones... Maybe that explains why these stations can get better reception...

yes, perhaps so.. ur lucky cos ur Gen-2 is using a blaupunkt HU.. it has a lower sensitivity but high clarity therefore no static.. blush.gif

what gauge cable did u use and where did u grouded it? mine is a jvc which i dunno what kind of tuner it has. i usually listen to mix, hitz, fly, light n easy. at standstill with all no static, hitz give best while fly give worst quality.

but when moving, all get choppy reception sad.gif

u said that when u move, is it for like a minute or immediately after u move the car when the reception gets choppy?

i used the cable that's used to power the car amplifiers.. juz ground it anywhere on the body of ur car that has a bolt or screw that on it.. the best position is behind the dash on the firewall.. thumbup.gif

like i said in my previous post, it all depends on the HU ur using... Gen-2s are using Blaupunkt... don't know bout ur mom's wira though.. icon_rolleyes.gif

One funny case is with my mum's Honda Wald... The radio, which is a stock unit, receives signals clearly when in the PJ area but the weird thing is that after passing MidValey towards KL, the frequency becomes choppy... Dunno y this type of thing can happen...

And yups, the G2's Blaupunkt HU has good radio reception but too bad it has no MP3 player... I changed my HU because of this and even though my current unit is some OEM brand, the reception is still as good as ever!

the difference is, there's less static and the sound quality is much more crisp..

btw, u haven't answered my question la bro.. u said that when u move, is it moving for like a minute or immediately after u start moving the car when the reception gets choppy?

actually it depends on the spot
certain spot i stop also bad reception
but its very fluctuating and unpredictable. on off on off sometimes on on on on sometimes on off on on off off off like that tongue.gif
sorry for the lousy analogy but u get what i mean
playing CDs, etc no problem, sound clean no static, etc. just the radio reception bad >.<

Is the antenna bent due to passing by some low carpark roof or trees?

Why don't try get pioneer HU? It seem will improve the radio reception.. Maybe perodua car not nice on doing this.. My friend Kelisa also facing this problem.. When driving, the reception very poor, but when the car stop it will be ok back but not perfectly clear.

Maybe our threadstarter daijoubu can give the Bosch antenna a try? Who knows, hopefully it can "cure" his radio of the choppiness...

same problem with our fren here, changed his stock clarion to pioneer then gets choppy radio signal.. i think the OEM clarions and blaupunkts does have low sensitivity but high clarity..

Well, even after i changed my Gen2's built-in Blaupunkt radio to an OEM unit, both are still getting excellent reception... I think the antenna plays a major part as my radio (at the time still the built-in unit) got blurry signals when some joker actually STOLE my antenna!

today i try troubleshooting my problem
tried grounding with a better cable the antenna and the Hu, both no difference

but, when i wriggle the antenna jack on the behind of HU, i try connecting it just a little instead of all the way in, the reception got better and i almost got 100% reception 0.o. but move the jack a little bit in then gone back to ori problem. wats the problem >.<

Could be due to the placement of the antenna? Somehow the 100% reception was when the antenna's angle was perfectly placed within excellent radio range...

nope not the antenna but the antenna's jack instead =.=
when i wriggle the jack in and out, there is a point where i get 100% reception

update

apparently the problem is caused not by antenna
but the player itself got problem
that day, because i was so fedup with the problem, i decided to open up the JVC player
found out that the antenna jack solder point cracked. i soldered it up back and now getting crystal clear reception smile.gif
