friend shopping dslr now ..... currently more towards sony alpha. times are good for entry dslr this next couple of months.
we have:
pentax k100d
olympus e500
olympus e330
sony alpha a100
nikon d50
nikon d80
canon 350d
canon 350d successor
You can't place everything in this order. It will be very difficult to choose as you are comparing apple, pear and orange together.we have:
pentax k100d
olympus e500
olympus e330
sony alpha a100
nikon d50
nikon d80
canon 350d
canon 350d successor
1st you might want to think of budget. The list you will have would be...
low budget:
Nikon D50 (no stock)
Pentax K100D
average budget:
Olympus E500
Sony A100
Canon 350D
Nikon D70s
above average budget:
Olympus E330
Canon 400D
Nikon D80
If budget is not a problem, then you have to go for features rich battle. Choose whichever you want the most. Low light performance, Anti camera shake, Anti dust and etc etc...
Sony A100 is not that bad after all. It is one of the features rich camera body on the list. Albeit from poor ISO, it does carry anti camera shake, anti dust, eye-piece auto focus sensor and etc etc. As for K100D, though it had a little bit performance issue but what do you expect for a 2k range of dslr?
As for Canon 400D and Nikon D80, though it is nice entry level but the price would be a little too expensive. I believe those models are close to 4k plus. So is it worth to toss in extra money to get a little high tech?
Just think what you need the most will do...

nikon and canon overated ......
...... there are other cameras also. if it is true only nikon and canon makes good cameras - the rest ta pau long time ago.
Not that Canon and Nikon can dominate the market. Others are equally good only depends on what you prefer. Some may goes for brand... but I would say choose whichever offer you the one that you need the most.
