Well for some of us who already have accounts directly with CCP, having steam meant we might have to download twice during patch day >.< I haven't really experimented the suggested methods to overcome this so if anyone knows, please share.

For those of you who are new or thinking of joining this game, don't worry too much and just subs from steam. The gist of it is, steam is currently cheaper plex wise and subs wise so no point worrying about the future (selling chars). Even if you want to sell characters, just use steam, start a new char with trial account directly with CCP and use your steam account to buy plex to train. It'll still be cheaper and you'll still need a steam account (to buy cheap plex).

Anyway fly safe.

After you purchase EVE on Steam, and it's available for you to install through Steam, don't install it. Instead, navigate to your steamapps\common folder, and manually create a folder called "EVE Online" without the quotes of course. Now, navigate to your standalone EVE installation in C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE (assuming Windows 7), and copy everything from inside that folder into the folder you just created. Then go ahead and install EVE from the Steam library. It should notice the files, and will only need to download a few MB worth of data for the installation to become usable.

just went and get a new steam acc, get the rm9.5 starter pack, and buy 12 plex for my main account

now i can let my acc afk training for 1 year, wakakaka
