I noticed after the latest 5.0.1 update, the pattern unlock area is much smaller now. Maybe for easier unlocking with one thumb.

If this happen often try first to change the simcard?
If still persists than you need to claim warranty to have sim module replace

I googled around and found that this is common problem faced by s4 users around the world.
There are simple fix to this by cutting a small sponge and put it behind the back of the phone to 'tighten' the sim card ribbon connection. It worked for me so far. Almost a day of no sim card error compared to every few hours before. But I dunno if this fix is temporary or permanent hmm.gif
